Summary: Matched requirements - exceeded expectations
Review: A family home used by some 25 members of an extended family required a new phone. The phones in use were the "cast-offs" from homes of family members - and as "cast offs" had already met the definition of defective. Plus, many of us had had terrible experiences recently purchasing supposedly "top of the market" phones costing hundreds of dollars that didn't perform to expectations.

We decided on a "pseudo" scientific approach using "Six Sigma" methods designed to ensure all "voices" were heard and that the phone met our requirements. Prior to the purchase we made a list of the attributes we sought and prioritized those using a simple spreadsheet tool called the "Full Analytical Criteria Model" (FACM). A little extreme perhaps, it seemed a good approach to building consensus amoung the extended family. We basically defined the possible criteria: quality sound, long battery life, speakerphone (base and handset), handset finder, lighted keys, good range, CID, headphone jack, ease of use, answering machine, multi-line, price ... and had family members prioritize them via survey. We then used the FACM to define the "importance" of the criteria and researched available options on Consumer Reports online.

Consumer Reports does not make this approach easy. They rarely test more than one phone per product line, and in this case tested the 2257 - an answering machine model - not an important criteria for us. And since this was listed under "Answering Machine Models" it was ony by serendipity we discovered the 2237 model which best matched our criteria.

We then shopped for the lowest price which of course was none other than Amazon.com. This also offered the advantage of return should the product not live up to it's advertised capabilities.

Result? Excellent choice. The phone performs as well or better than expected, everyone felt "involved" in the process with "ownership" in the selection. The only complaint was from the one person who didn't respond to the survey - and they took considerable grief from all involved for having the nerve to complain when they didn't take the time to be involved.

If this phones "criteria" match your requirements, you won't be dissatisfied. However, I recommend determining what features you need, and prioritizing them before shopping.

Summary: Good Features, Poor Quality
Review: After shopping around for a good quality home/office phone, I decided on this one which ended up being very disappointing. The phone has some good features but very poor quality. I had instant issues with battery having to be charged constantly. I took that one back to the store. Now I am in the midst of doing a replacement since people have trouble hearing me, I cut in and out, people on the other end sound muffled. I didnt expect that from a [$] phone. Wouldnt waste the money on this one!

Summary: battery problems
Review: did a lot of reading and looking at phones and when i purchased this one it had decent reviews and fit my budget and my needs. Initially the phone was fine, but after a couple months the battery kept dying out. The battery indicator will be showing a full charge but after 30 minutes of talking the phone dies, needless to say its very annoying to be in mid conversation and have the phone die (this has resulted in numerous conversations over speaker phone, which by the way works good). Seeing as how a phones primary function should be to facilitate talking i'm very disapointed! The functions offered are nice (the speaker phone function on the phone itself (not the base) is nice and allows friends and famaily to hear my 18 month old daughter babble while we talk. So good functions, nice design, good price but horrible battery!

Summary: Panasonic bummer
Review: Great features yes, but I have had (and am still having) the same battery problems as other reviewers: the phone regularly needs 12 hours of charging to provide about 2 hours maximum talk time - and it only has about 12 hours standby time at most even when it's "fully charged." To make matters worse, the handset produces endless snap, crackle and pop on almost every channel. Very disappointing. Have had two other Panasonic cordless phones -- one of them was excellent and that's why I've kept buying the brand. This phone may have cured me of the Panasonic habit.

Summary: Doesn't Hold Charge
Review: Had my phone for about a year now and it never has held a charge for more than 20 minutes of talk time. From day one I charged the phone over night for about 15 hours and found the unit would display "Recharge" after about 15 to 20 minutes of use. After a couple of months I purchased a new battery and the problem was not fixed. Now a friend of mine with the same phone is having the exact same problem after only 2 months. There is definetly a problem with the design of this phone. AVOID THIS PHONE !!!

Summary: where's the battery life they promised?
Review: I bought this phone in September 2002 the exchanged because I thought I had a lemon. The second was just as bad. The battery just doesn't last. I had to leave it charging when not in use or it world start to beep after a few hours of use. Other then that I like it. I almost forgot I called the company and they sent me some paded stickers to stick on the battery to "help extend the battery life."

Summary: horrible battery life
Review: I bought this phone, and followed the directions on charging it, but it still dies after 5-6 hours of being off the base, and if I talk on it for more than 20 minutes the battery dies. I am writing this in the middle of my search for a replacement battery, and if that costs too much i'll be getting a new phone.

Summary: Disappointed
Review: I had a great Panasonic 900mhz cordless phone that worked great before I bought this one. The only reason I had to get rid of it was because I wore the buttons out.

I was stoked when I saw all the great features this phone had. Too bad the phone sucks though. Since this is a 2.4 Ghz I figured it would be clear as day but as another reviewer mentioned the phone has this terrible buzzing sound/high pitch tone that never goes away, even if you change channels or if you're 2 feet from the base. Second, the battery sucks. I'll go to work with the charge saying full and come home to a dead phone. This is after only 2-4 months of use. My old phone lasted for days and would give me an accurate reading of when it needed to be recharged. Third, the battery itself is too loose. I would put the phone down it would totally turn itself off and loose connection with the base. I fixed this by adding some foam inside the battery compartment to make it more snug. I even returned it and the new phone had the same problems minus the loose battery.

The only thing that I like with this phone is the fact you can use speakerphone with the headset. Other than that it is a crappy piece of equipment. Panasonic has lost me as a loyalist.

Don't buy if you can help it.

Summary: this phone didnt work very well
Review: i had nothing but problems with this phone. first off it was really static sounding. sedcond, it would change channels automaticly every few seconds and half the time it would get worse reception and the other half it would produce a loud buzzing noise that wouldnt go away till you manually changed the channel 3 or 4 times. if you live in a house or apt with walls that are thicker than paper, this phone probably wont work for you either. but the good thing, i took it back to the store )circut city) and they took the piece of junk off my hands once and for all.
