Summary: Siemens 4015 Gigaset - A great phone system!
Review: I purchased the Siemens 4015 Gigaset for my parents to use in their home. My 71 yr. old mother programmed this phone simply by following the step-by-step process that is very clearly shown in the manual. To anyone with an average level of intuition, you can program this system without even using the manual.

Voice quality is excellent and there is no noticeable static when using the handset around the house. Outside of the house the phone begins to break up a little at about 150'.

The intercom feature is ideal for my parents because they can carry the handsets throughout the house (or outside in the yard) and always be able to call the other for assistance without having to yell for help. It's also nice to be able to use standard AA batteries in an emergency..

Having no controls for the answering machine at the base is no issue. It's no different than using voice mail from your phone company, and having message access from the couch is great in my opinion. There is a speaker in the base station too, and as long as you set the volume at maximum, it works fine. You can use the speaker to screen calls or to listen to messages.

This system is about $100 less than the Panasonic and every bit as good. I also looked at VTech, but for the same $$ I elected to go with Siemens for the quality of construction.

My only gripe is that I don't care for selection of melody-ringers that come with the phone. Only 1 of the 10 melodies is tolerable.

And, for the reviewer that complained that there is no paging for lost handsets, look at the bottom of the base station. There is a button there for exactly that purpose.

I love this phone system! Buy it with confidence.

Summary: Great phone, passable answering machine...
Review: I should start by saying I couldn't decide between three stars and four. I like the phone quite a lot, but some of the other functions and particularly the answering machine strike me as less than user friendly.
The phone:
It works. People call me and it rings. Sound quality is excellent. I've had absolutely no problems with clicking, background hum or other noise even with the microwave running. Range for me seems to be about 100 feet before the connection starts to cut out. Usually this is the one instance where you will get some clicking in advance as a warning. I live in ground floor apartment, and I can just about make the parking lot in front of my building with the phone before I lose the connection.
The ring tones are adjustable and REALLY loud. I have the base and handset set to different rings to help find the phone when I have an incoming call. When I say loud, I mean loud... and shrill; I think the base could wake the dead.
The other functions:
The answering machine works fine. My main complaints are with the excessive menus needed to do anything that involves the base or other functions, and some functions and indicators that should be there but but aren't. Since all the answering machine functions are controlled via the handset, your only indication of a message is a small blinking led light on the handset. There is no way to check how many messages you have without listening to them, and again no way to screen them (via caller id) without listening to them. The phone has a caller id log, but it only logs missed calls and then only if there's a number. Hence, any call where somebody left a message, or where the number was blocked will never be displayed in the call log. You do get a record of the numbers from the calls that leave messages but only if you listen to the messages.
On occasion, I have seen the call log fail to log an incoming call, even when the number is correctly displayed. In other words, you can screen a call and sometimes it won't be entered into the log after they hang up if no message is left. I presume this a basic fault with the phone, but I don't know if its a general fault or just my unit.
A lot of these problems could be solved if there were some message indicator or something on the base, even if it didn't include manual controls. Also, there is NO paging button on the base. My phone doesn't have one, despite the claims of others. It would be nice to have a paging function also.
My last complaint is that the menus seem excessively complicated. Sometimes you have to go through too many steps to do simple things, like deleting numbers from the call log.
So... the phone itself works great, and looks great. Some of the other functions, well, they work but not without fault. Still, if you want an integrated unit that is small, attractive and functions well enough this is a phone you should consider.

Summary: Great System! WOW!
Review: I am not sure what other peoples expectations are for this product, but it is fantastic. If you only want a single phone, this is not for you. The beauty of this system is having multiple phones connect to one master unit. I have placed 3 chargers around the house for a total of 4 phones. From any of those phones you can check the voicemail, use it as an intercom system, and all of them work exactly the same, so you don't need to learn different systems. If you just want a single 2.4 GHz phone, then there are cheaper ones, that work equally well but if what you are looking for is an excellent phone system for your home or small business then this is for you. In addition I have found the sound quality excellent, crystal clear. (Keep in mind it is cordless, so there is always a loss of sound quality) The only reason I went with 4 stars instead of 5 is that the kind of batteries included are NiCad! Great system, expensive if you are not interested in a system.

Summary: Not all it's supposed to be
Review: I've had this phone now for over 2 years and haven't felt it was the best investment. Like many consumers I like the convenience of a cordless hand-held phone, however like some of the previous reviews, it isn't comfortable to hold between your head and shoulder... in fact, it's almost down-right impossible! The battery life is frequently short and will cut you off right in the middle of a call. If you are in the middle of a call while the phone is in the cradle a slight move will sometimes end the call prematurely. The headset is awkward and uncomfortable and the sound quality on both ends of the call is sometimes awful. I've heard static almost consistantly on the headset. The buttons are somewhat hard to use since they seem to work then not work sporadically and have a delay between pushing the number and actually dialing. I really dislike the ringing tones - like an annoying cell phone from the early 90s. And the volume is also lacking in choices, there just aren't enough settings to get the volume loud enough on the headset. If I could, I would replace this phone with a Bang & Olufson.

Summary: best phone I've ever owned
Review: After reading some of the reviews about this phone, I almost didn't buy it. I had made up my mind to purchase Uniden 2.4Ghz but I kept coming back to the Siemens because of its design and features. I'm glad I decided to go with the Siemens now. It works alot like a cell phone with the scrolling menus and choice of ring tones. The adjustable volume for both ring tone and the handset are great. My old 900Mhz phone's handset was always too loud no matter what. The sound quality is superior and I haven't had any trouble with static. Don't be afraid to buy this phone!!

Summary: Buyer beware - Siemens doesn't care
Review: 13 months after buying a 4015, the base station quit communicating with the handset. Called Siemens "customer care" line. Was informed there is no service available after the warranty period is over. Their advice "check eBay and see if someone has a used base station for sale, or buy another 4000 series and I would then have two handsets." Yeah right.... 13 months after that I guess they give the same advice? Then I would have 3 handsets with only $450 invested. STAY AWAY FROM SIEMENS !!!!

Summary: Ineffective, Fault Prone Technology
Review: I bought a Siemens Gigaset 4015 and several 4000 handsets a year ago, and have had nothing but trouble with them. They cut off phone calls in mid-conversation, and are so unreliable, I can no longer use them. I've called Siemens Technical Support multiple times, and am given useless troubleshooting tips. What's been my solution? I bought an inexpensive AT&T cordless phone from my local drugstore, and it works like a charm. The low $ AT&T phone beats the higher $$$ Siemens phones hands down. I don't buy all the excuses that try to make up for the Siemens cordless products' faults -- my AT&T cordless works like a champ in a home that has a wireless network, where I use my microwave, and where I do all the other everyday things a good phone should be able to handle.

Summary: Fade out
Review: I got this unit & a 2nd. hand set,I found them easy to set up & use, however after a few months the LCD screens on both started to fade out, I called mfg. & they said they would replace units if I'd send them to them, not knowing how long I'd wait for replacements to arrive I bought a Uniden 5.8 unit (with extra handset) which I'd rate at 5 stars after appox. 6 months of use.

Summary: Problems with this expensive phone
Review: I purchased this phone early in the year, and was very happy with it. Then, it stopped working. The display on the handset was flashing and also had lost many of the menu items. I called Siemens support and they told me that the problem was a bad handset. I shipped the handset off to them and received a new one. The exact problem existed. I called back Siemens and they told me it must be a bad base. I needed to send them the bill for proof of purchase (apparently the policy had changed between the original troubleshooting) and they would make arrangements to have the base replaced. I am frustrated that their original troubleshooting didn't point to the base. It would have saved me a lot of time and bother. Now I hope I can find the original bill or I'm out of 100 bucks. From now on I'll stick to simple, basic cheap phones.

Summary: Unintuitive Phone
Review: While the design is attractive and sleek, I really dislike this phone. The menus are complicated and unintuitive. Retrieving messages is such a hassle. Plus, you can't play the messages aloud. I've decided to chuck this phone and move back to Panasonic. I wholeheartedly do not recommend this phone.
