Summary: You will not regret buying this cordless phone
Review: After reading through different user reviews, I found that Uniden had got quite high rating in their cordless phone products. My original cordless phone was 900 MHz (AT&T), it works just fine (sound quality is not so good). I need to purchase another cordless phone with caller ID feature. I've considered to purchae either 2.4 GHz or 5.8 GHz but eventually I think the sound quality and some basic features (caller ID, memory function) are the most important factors. Besides, 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz are more expansive than 900 MHz phone set.

I've purchase one (southwestern bell) from Ebay and it turned out to be a big mistake (very poor sound quality). I suggest you should purchase cordless phone sets from retailers (ex. Best Buy or Circuit City) so that you can exchange for other brand/models if the one you purchased turns out to be a mistake.

I'm very happy with this Uniden phone set, it's easy to setup and it has all the features that I need. Most important of all, the sound quality is great. I love it so much!!

PS. Most new buy phones, you will have to charge them for more than 12 hours before you can verify their function and features but you do not have to wait with this product. As soon as you installed the battery, it's ready to rock.

Summary: Great phone. Low cost
Review: For $28, one doesn't actually expect much but this phone is a very pleasant surprise. A lot of features including CallerID, Call Waiting, and a digital answering machine to boot. The sound quality is good within my home - no static, and the distances I travel with it (about 50' away down 2 stories) doesn't create a problem for me.

I've had it for about a week now. No problems so far. My wife reported that I didn't sound as if I were in the bottom of a barrel with this one - unlike other more expensive models I have tried in the past. Incoming volume is fairly good, and crystal clear.

The low price should NOT be a reason to look past this model. I have paid more and gotten a lot less. This one is a winner.

Summary: Surprisingly Good. Don't underestimate because of price.
Review: I am keeping this phone because despite my willingness to spend much more on cool features and styling, this phone easily beats the more expensive models at doing the things a cordless phone/answering machine needs to do.

I'm replacing a 10 year old Sony cordless w/tape answering machine that has finally started to malfunction. Since I got so many years service out of it, I figured spending up to $200 for my next phone would be well worth it if I got another 10 years out of it. Also, I was excited about getting a modern phone that surely must have improved technology, sound quality, looks, and features. Well, after doing lots of research I learned that price and newer technology have nothing to do with sound quality when it comes to cordless phones. In fact, based on other reviewers and my own experience, it seems the older analog cordless technology provides better sound quality than any of the various types of Digital. I tried and returned several more expensive models (including the Uniden TRU448-2, Motorola MD481 and GE 27939GE3) before settling on the inexpensive Uniden EXAI-398.

Despite its budget price and budget look, this phone bested the others in what matters - sound quality and ease of use.

Calls and recordings are exceptionally clear - noticeably better than the other phones - both for the caller and callee. The answering machine buttons are clearly labeled, logically arranged, and simple to use. The message counter display is easy to read from across the room. The answerer volume can be turned up so that its easily heard from across the room as well. The handset shape allows you to stand it upright which is a nice feature not found on all phones.

So what's not to love about this phone? The tiny green display on the handset is a bit dark, hard to read, and cheap looking. The keypad does not light up. There is no speakerphone if that matters to you. When wall-mounted, the handset is a bit tricky to hang up. It always looks and feels as if its on the verge of falling off. Its not quite as sleek or cool looking as some of the other current models.

If a perfect cordless phone existed, it might take the cool looks and of other models and combine them with the sound quality and ease of use of this one. But considering the current crop of phones and the trend away from analog, I'm not going to hold my breath. Maybe digital sound quality will improve eventually. In the meantime, this low-cost gem beats them all.

Summary: It sucks
Review: I bought this set half a month ago from bestbuy to be the backup of my AT&T phone. It's light, and its button is smooth-touched. However, just a few days ago it started sounding noisy no matter how near the handset is to the base.

I won't recommend it even at this low price,if you don't want your call to interrupted by the sudden noise.

Summary: GREAT!!!!
Review: I had my phone for over a week now and it is great but when I go to the backyard it is kinda bad. Because the help booklet said it is the applinces. I'am not even in the backyard the called id and all the other stuff works great. I was a little confused to check your messages from a different location. My old phone was pound 99. But this one is 099. You can set your own code. I love this phone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Summary: Great phone--keep the manual.
Review: I love my uniden cordless. I have the older model an exa915. Basically it just doesn't have the caller ID display. I've had it for 5 years and it still works great. There's even a help button incase you lose the manual and you can't remember what the shortcut buttons on the handset do.
The absolute only bad thing I have to say about it, is that you can only turn the base ringer off and not the one on the handset. So it will always ring, no matter what. And most people never want to turn it off.

Summary: Uniden phone
Review: I needed a cordless phone and after reading the excellent reviews on this one new it would be perfect for me. It is a nice size, has good range, and has lots of extra features, not to mention it has an answering machine built in. I think this is an excellent product and I'm very glad to have bought it. The price is a steal although I'm bummed to see it is even $5 dollars less than it was when I bought it a few weeks ago!

Summary: Great tele @ a great price
Review: I thought I'd nailed a bargain with this phone. There are a lot of pros at first glance. I liked the way it felt in my hand. The signal was much clearer than my AT&T. There were many features for the price.

Unfortunately, the problems began before the phone was finished charging. The caller ID worked exactly twice during its first day in operation. They are still listed in the phone's memory. Once the phone was fully charged, it quit. Now the phone says "Incoming Call" or once, "Data Incomplete". Just for kicks, I plugged in my old AT&T to test the caller ID. It works just fine on the old phone.

So this morning I called Uniden's Customer Service. Big mistake. The rep who answered the phone had such bad diction I could barely understand what he was trying to say. Uniden gave him a list of standard responses to read depending on the problem. If the problem doesn't fit into their box (the problem is with your house, your phone line, or the phone and it's your fault...fix it at your expense), they cannot help you. This is not the fault of the poor guy they have answering the phone; he's probably making minimum wage. This is the fault of Uniden for not giving consumers another recourse when the product is truly faulty.

As an aside, Amazon lists this phone as having 20 speed-dial presets, but there are only 10.

I'm returning this phone to Amazon and will not consider another Uniden product.
