Panasonic KX-TG1050N 2.4GHz Multi-Handset Cordless Phone (Champagne)

Summary: Potentially, A Great Phone
Review: This attractively designed phone has all of the features that most people would ever need. However, considering the price of the unit, there are several major disappointments. The greatest disappointment of all is the inadequate volume setting for the handset. Even at the highest setting, the volume is too low. I found that I had to switch to the handset's speakerphone in order to adequately hear the other party. I returned the phone for that very reason. I was also displeased with the sound quality through the handset. Last of all, it would have been nice had Panasonic designed the phone so that the base unit would also function as a speakerphone.

Review: We got this phone because it has a small footprint and attractive form factor, even though it was one of the most ... phones at Target. But as soon as we plugged it in, it was a different story..
It is hard to figure out how to dial in the first place, and when you do make a connection, the volume is very low, even if you set it on maximum. You can set it on handset speaker, and then you can hear OK, but you find you are talking AT your phone, not into it. This is bothersome. Sound quality is poor overall, with drop-outs and a slight constant white noise hiss.
This phone is going back to the store!

Summary: I can't hear you!
Review: We have bought a base set and two handsets. Unfortunately we also returned one base and two handsets. This was a great phone set with a couple major exceptions. The one fatal flaw with this system was that it is very hard to hear the caller, even with the handset volume turned all the way up. It is too quiet. All three handsets were identical.
Another fault is that the handset datasets cannot be synched, so you have to enter phone numbers individually into each hand set.
On the plus side, the phone was easy to set up. It also had great range, and very little hiss or other noise. The handset speaker phone was also very nice. When receiving a call from this phone, on speakerphone, you could not tell the caller had turned on the speakerphone. It is too bad the phone is too quiet, it would have been a nice system.
Also, I replaced the system with a V-tech VT 2461. It is interesting to note that that except for the shape and color of the case, the Vtech is apparently idential to the Panasonic. The features, menus, set up protocols, button position, and even the screens are the same. Unfortunately, the Vtech is also too quiet.

Summary: Better Than VTECH
Review: We originally purchased the VTECH expanandable cordless and not only was the base phone defective but the system had a terrible "white noise" continuously in the background. I replaced it with the Panasonic and have been very happy with the performance of the base model as well as the additional handset we purchased. Although a bit pricey, I like being able to let my teenager have an extension in her room without having to get the telephone company in to install a jack. I also never have to search for the phone in her room anymore and she isn't asking for her own phone. The expandable base takes up very little room and I am considering purchasing another one to keep by the computer. I would have liked this phone to be less expensive .Would also like to see rebates for the extensions, otherwise it becomes an expensive unit if you want multi handsets around the house.

Summary: Great phone. Really. It just has volume control.
Review: We've had this phone for years. In pre-wireless times, we had a Panasonic phone/answering machine combo. Our experience with Panasonic phones is that they're incredibly reliable, and have useful features that are intuitive to program. I only spotted all the crummy reviews because I was about to buy another handset. Yes, that's how much we like the phone. We're not throwing it away or trading it in. FINALLY, if you can't hear anyone, there's a pair of little buttons on the main base labeled "VOLUME"; if you push the one with the up arrow a couple of times, not only with you be able to hear better, but the little display will show you the volume level (1=quiet; 8=loudest).
