Summary: Good, But I Still Want Better
Review: A nice system overall, but not nearly perfect. We purchased a set of these to replace our burnt out Siemens Gigaset 2402 system. While we were happy to have something that worked...the features and design of this system leave much to be desired. Numerous minor inconveniences and awkwardnesses make these phones less than they could be--nothing major, and perhaps only noticeable when compared with the excellently designed Siemens phones (really nothing more than the difference between Japanese and German design).

Two features stand out in comparison with our retired Siemens phones, one negative and one positive. On the positive side, these phones support detection of voice messages on an existing message system, so that it is easy to see from any handset whether there are unplayed messages on either line. On the negative side, the system does not support handset naming. We imagined this would be a minor inconvenience when we bought the phones, but it has proved to be a major drawback: there's simply no way to get the entire family to learn what number goes with what phone. When we had the Siemens system, which supports handset naming, the we had a working intercom system (not to mention convenient transfers of calls); now we're back to shouting.

Summary: Total Disappointment
Review: After having several Panasonic phones and having been pleased with all I purchased the KX-TGA270S as part of an expandable phone system. The listed features are great however the battery life is pathetic (on average less than 15 min. on a full charge). If you don't put the phone back on the charging base after each call you will be lucky to complete two calls before getting the low battery warning. In addition the displays intermittently go blank. I have four phone in my system and all four do the same thing. I have spoken to at least 8 other people with these phones and all have the same problem. Panasonic says there is nothing wrong with the design. With 35 years in the electronics industry I can assure you there is a design defect that Panasonic does not want to admit. I would not recommend that you purchase this phone.

Summary: Excellent handset
Review: As the phones in my house slowly begin to break or become obsolete, the ease with which I can add a handset to my "network" of telephones is great. I, unlike others, have not had any qualms with the battery life. Additionally, not having to plug the handset into a telephone jack has been extemely helpful, for I can move the handsets around the house easily, especially into rooms without a telephone jack. Also, the speaker phone capability is quite useful and is much better than on most handsets in its price range.

Summary: Battery life is poor.
Review: Battery life is terrible. They need a lithium ion battery for this phone. Get out of the old technology.

Summary: Battery life terrible
Review: Everything is fine with this phone / system except battery life. Ugh. I've owned it less than a year and I'm going to buy another phone system today because I'm sick of terrible battery performance.

Summary: Great sound, seamless operation on phone system.
Review: Excellent sound quality, seamless integration into my existing Panasonic KX phone system. I have had no battery problems in over a year of use. I highly recommend this extension unit and the Panasonic KX system for those who want a simple and expandable cordless phone system.

Summary: Only 20 minute talk time?
Review: Great features. I like it very much except...The battery goes after only 20-30 minutes talk time! I have seen others reccomend several charge cycles before the battery life is good, but I have seen no improvement. I don't know if the problem is the battery, or the phone. I often have conference calls well over an hour, so for my application this phone is useless.

For those wishing to reduce their time on the phone and their phone bill, perhaps this is a good phone.

Summary: Stay away. Battery life is terrible.
Review: I agree with many of the prior reviewers, the battery life on my KX-TGA270S is now about 15 minutes. Started off ok, but no longer (have had phone for ~6 months).
I called Panasonic, they are sending a replacement battery for the phone, but judging by prior reviewers now, I am less than hopeful that this will fix the problem.

Summary: The worst cordless Panasonic ever produced!
Review: I am a Panasonic fan when it comes to cordless phones. I have used over ten Panasonics over the years since the introduction of cordless phone. I purchased this because of the reputation Panasonic had build on me. But I was wrong! This Phone is not a "Panasonic". I can barely hear the other party-I don't have any hearing problem-even at full level of volume. if I connect it to a headset there is a hum. My friends ask me if I am in propeller plane. The biggest disappointment is the battery. You won't believe this, but, this phone needs to be charged every 2 days. I don't use this phone at all (because of above reasons) but the battery goes COMPLETELY EMPTY IN 2 DAYS.
Don't waist your money, this phone is useless!

Summary: Satisfied with base unit, now buying extensions...
Review: I bought the KX-TG2740S many months ago but I didn't buy any of the extensions at that time because of my concern over the battery life as reported by many. I have had no problems - recharge the battery in the handset every second or third or fourth day, as needed. It gives plenty of warning when the battery is failing (I look at that little graphic symbol to see where the charge is - one bar and I put it on the base before I go to bed to recharge). Since I've encountered no problems at all with the base or its' handset, I'm now buying a couple of the extensions. If they give me any problems, I'll let you know.
