Summary: Terrible reception and answering machine
Review: I have returned this phone twice now. First time for lousy reception (worse than 80's mobile phones), and secondly for the answering machine that stopped working for no reason.

Summary: Easy to Use, Clear, Lots of Features, GREAT PHONE!
Review: In anticipation of the arrival of our phone, I started to read some of the reviews both on Amazon and Epinions. I have to admit, I became a little nervous. With a 32% approval rating, I was expecting the worst. I was totally surprised! There were three repeated complaints with this phone system...1.)poor sound quality and range, 2.)hard to use the phone and features, 3.)hard to hold between shoulder and ear without pressing buttons. Where people got that this phone was hard to use, is just beyond me. Everything is spelled out for you on the LID. You can do just about anything with this phone except mute, which as far as I can tell is just about the only feature missing from this phone. We have never had a phone as clear as this one, and we have been searching ever since our Panasonic went dead. The range is much better than the 900mgz. I think that people who were having problems with clarity must have all kinds of things hooked up in their homes. We haven't had any problems when the microwave is on, near the computer, tv, etc. We also haven't had any problems with the buttons being hit when in the shoulder-ear position. We love this phone. If you can use a cell phone than this is easier to use. Highly recommend it!

Summary: Simple to Use
Review: I have purchased several cordless phones over the years. I found the Siemens 2415 easy to set up and use. It has great styling,is very functional and has some very innovative features. For example the power line and phone line are one, not two separate cords. The display secreen is easy to read and the methods and instructions for programing are very logical and easy to follow.
Voice clarity and range for use are exceptional.With the Siemens rebate I paid $99 for the phone and it is better by far than many phones selling for over $150. I would recommend this phone to anyone.

Summary: The worst electronic product I ever owned!!
Review: This product is the worst performing device I have ever used. It is pathetic in every aspect. I have had to return this product for replacement 4 times with different problems occuring each time. Problems:

The handset cannot locate the base, even though the handset sits within the charge itself. Calls are lost and cannot be answered.

The answering machine locks up and no messages can be retrieved. The machine kept accumulating messages and at last count reached 40 before we had to shut it off.

The user interface is archaic like an old cellular phone. Non-intuitive and very difficult to navigate. It does not have any speed dialing buttons or fast access for phone numbers. Ring tones are limited. Entering information is very, very difficult.

Finally, the worst thing is audio quality. Often, interference is so bad that we cannot speak to the person calling us. We have to start over and try several times before a clear connection (as defined by Siemens) is made. Even then it is of the poorest quality. Scratchy, noisey, warped don't begin to describe this quality.

All in all, there is no redeeming value in this phone system.

As a side note, Siemens customer service is of the same quality - POOR. They have a disregard for problems, don't listen and send bad handset after bad handset as their solution. This product is a complete write-off. I will be going back to the old 900MHz systems as the solution. SONY never looked so good! We will never buy another product from Siemens again!

Summary: So far so good!
Review: Like others, after reading the reviews, I wasn't sure if I wanted to take a chance on these phones. It seemed the reviews scattered at one end of the spectrum or the other, little in-between. But I decided to go for it - one 2415 and four additional 2400 handsets.

In reading the reviews, I got the impression most readers had trouble because of (1) using the batteries provided, and (2) not setting up the additional handsets correctly. So I prebought some NiMH batteries and had them charged by the time the order arrived. I carefully installed the base unit followed by the additonal handsets - being careful to initialize them in the correct order and then redefining the IDs and names, etc.
Once up and running - I've had no problems! The base unit is on the ground floor, away from TVs, stereo, etc. The other units are scattered on the first and second floors, two of them next to computers. The sound is clear at any position in the house.

The answering machine works clearly. If you're use to a cell phone (or computer) regarding a menu system, then you should have no problems understanding the system. I do find that the menus for the base and for the system are a bit confusing - not quite intuitive, but I got it after working with them a while.

The intercom works well, I was able to put an external call on hold, "call" downstairs for my wife to answer, and then have her connect to the call. That's one nice feature! Haven't tried the monitor feature yet. I've been able to enter data into the directory (data from the call log - I have caller ID, and data I've entered directly) of one phone, and then transmitted the directory to the other phones - not a smooth process since the receiving phone has to reply to the transmission with an ID. I'd rather be able to just transmit to all other phones directly. I suppose this violates the security feature; it would be nice to have an option to relax security on the system if desired.

Okay - I've just walked outside, down the driveway and across the street from my home and had almost clear reception (a few garbled bits, but I could understand the conversation). So, to those who are considering purchasing this unit - your milage may vary (judging by what others have said). My home has ethernet and broadband connections, along with TV and 5.1 Dolby and multiple computers - no wireless stuff, though. I've had no problems so far and would recommend the product. As for the other negative reviews, I can't explain it - perhaps some have not used good batteries (the ones included have the "memory" problem [NiCD], where recharging may not recharge fully - something many others have complained about, without understanding why this is happening). I suspect others have not set up the systems correctly. But I'm sure others have had valid problems. Perhaps my karma is good!

4-stars for a less than perfect menu system and some features that could be improved (e.g. the timer terminates the moment you hit the "stop" button, instead of remaining on screen a few seconds longer). On the whole, I like the system very much!!

Summary: Wonderful Features, Poor Sound
Review: I loved the features of this system. The ability to send a directory entry(s) to other handsets rather than having to retype every entry several times (a'la Vtech) is wonderful. The menu system is easy to use. Finding a directory entry to dial is a snap, compared to Vtech's outlandish system.

There are many other nice touches. For example, the time/date on the answering maching is kept updated by information sent with caller id; no need to manually reset time/date after every power blip. Messages can be erased for a few seconds after you've heard them, unlike many other systems in which you must replay the message because it can only be erased while you are "in" that message. Messages can be retrieved from any handset, in addition to from the base unit.

Altogether, excellent features, intelligently implemented.

Unfortunately, the first requirement of a phone is communication, for which you must have clear audio with little or no background noise. This is the Achilles Heel of the Gigagset system. Callers constantly mentioned the poor sound quality. At my end there was constant background hiss, even within 30 feet of the base, with no walls in the way.

I tried all the fixes suggested by Siemens, and the deregistering/rebooting/reregistering trick mentioned by an earlier reviewer. No help.

The phone is being returned. Reluctantly. Because I love the features, design, and human factors. But the sound quality does not meet my needs.

Summary: A few more calls to tech support and then it's outta here.
Review: Got the phone 3 weeks ago and got it all set up to replace my old 900mhz Sony number. I have a long house and the coverage from the 900mhz would get scratchy at one end of the house. I was so excited that the new 2.4 ghz would blow the other one away that I box the old one up after setting up the new one. First day of use my wife called me and her voice kept dropping in and out. I have moved the base to numerous locations in the house and the signal problems seems to stay the same. And it's not just the person listening that get's signal dropped. The signal coming in does the same thing. Terrible. I now use the base and Handset as very expensive alternate phones to the 900mhz. I need to return them I guess but I want them to work like they should. A few more calls to tech support on this number and then it's outta here.

Summary: Poor performance!!
Review: I have two Siemen's 2.4GHz Digital Phones - the base unit with digital answering machine and one satellite unit. About a month or two after getting them, the performance started to rapidly go downhill. I could hear everyone fine, but people on the other end said I sounded choppy, garbled or was simply "breaking up".

Initially, I thought it was interference. However, I am not near any telecom towers nor power lines. I have switched off every electrical appliance, florescent lighting, air conditioning, anything that might create a magnetic field or otherwise interfere with the signal. I have stood immediately next to the base unit - and it still refused to clear up.

I now think its the incredibly [...] quality batteries Siemen's ships with this phone - NiCad. NiCad is an outdated technology and clearly doesn't belong in a phone costing [...] or more. We should get Nickel Metal Hydride or ideally a Lithium-technology battery (like you get with today's cell phones). With such a cheap and nasty power source, you get totally [...] performance and this phone rapidly becomes a frustrating waste of everyone's time. I'm going to try and return mine to Amazon for credit - total waste of money.

Summary: Satisfied at last!
Review: Purchased the 2415 and a 2400 handset... In the first two weeks I experienced three problems using either handset: (1)people telling me that I was 'breaking up' on about 1 out of 4 calls, (2)several dropped calls, and (3)noticeable hiss. Tech support suggestions to re-register the handset and 'reboot' the base and handsets changed nothing. So I returned the 2415 for another one. The new (base) seems to have cured the first two problems, but the hiss remains. It is not unacceptable and only audible at my end, so I am keeping it. The range and sound quality is not is good as the Uniden 900mhz it replaces, but the nice features like directory, intercom, keypad lock, NiMH (AA) batteries and compact size make it a good value. I have only had it one month so it is too soon to judge reliability.
