Summary: Excellent speakerphone, puzzling design
Review: Among the handset speakerphones available, this has the best sound quality and range I've come across. I get a loud clicking sound from my wifi system, but it doesn't seem to bother the person on the other end.The 4200/4215 setup is very handy to use. A much cleaner look than my old setup with a GE wireless phone jack and Panasonic cordless phone. Now I'm down to just one AC plug and a very sleek looking base for the 4200, which matches my off white walls perfectly. The 4200 can be wall mounted in the vertical position, which looks sharp and is very handy for accessing the speakerphone and remote answering machine functions. Why Siemens did not allow the 4215 base unit to be wall mounted, I just can't figure out. At least I can wall mount the 4200 in the kitchen and listen to messages remotely. The biggest drawback to this phone is the nonsensical cell-phone-like interface. It doesn't bother me much, but a potential buyer should check it out. For example, to raise the volume on the earpiece, you have to take the phone away from your ear, scroll through the menu, adjust the volume, then cancel out of the menu screens. I just keep it on "high" at all times, but all users might not like doing this. Another example is the 2 second delay between pressing a number button and hearing a tone. This is very confusing, as the sound delay causes me to misdial, and I don't know whether I have misdialed a number until I see the number on the LCD screen. Overall though, it does a good job at what was most important to me: using the handset speakerphone and having a phone where I had no phone jack.

Review: Battery life is too tempermentel, but on the average around 30 hours (handbook states 6 days, yeah right). Not normally a problem unless you leave for a couple of days and you forget to put it on the charger. Remember that the answering machine is built into the handset. SO, if it runs out of juice then the answering machine never kicks on. I have had the phone on several occasions run out of juice on just the average 8 hour workday. Who knows what messages i missed. It also has no plain ring tone. Opera sounds, but no basic plain chime.
Some of the other fancier feature are nice like speaker phone and room monitor. The basics are lacking so i cannot in good mind recommend this phone.

Summary: Functionality is awful-Batteries last less than an hour!
Review: BUYER BEWARE We bought 8 phones model 4215(one for each room in the house). We can't use the phones because the batteries don't last although we continually put them back in their holder. Siemens said they knew about the problem and promised to replace the batteries. Now they say they cannot send out the batteries and we are beyond our 30 days to return the product. Buyer beware. Don't buy this phone system from Siemens. We are out more than $...( we bought it when it came out). CAVEAT EMPTOR. Siemens is not like Sony, who once happily sent me out a missing plastic piece free of charge.

Review: Great phone. The speaker phone works great! People do not know I have them on speaker phone, unless I am typing at my keyboard. Programable names/numbers works great. I find the answering machine quality to be just fine. Range is good. I have roamed a ways from the house. I like the time and date right there on the phone. I always carry it around the house. The batteries that come with are no good, but if you buy some NM-Hi rechargables, they seem to last for days. Love this phone, I just need one more for the bedroom. The voice announce of the incoming caller is excellent. I would give 5 stars, but the response time when you push the keys is anoying sometimes.

Summary: Good Phone with some minor flaws
Review: Having owned the 4215 base station for about 1 year, I decided to shell out some $$$ and get the 4200 "extension" handset. My review will focus on the negative - since the other reviews have already pointed out the strong points of the 4200. It seemed simple - put the batteries in the 4200 handset, turn it off, put it in the base station and it automatically registers with the master base station. At least this is what the 1 page quick start pamphlet said (the only documnentaiton that comes with the 4200). Unfortunately, this did not work for me. After searching for 30 minutes for the big user manual to the 4215, I finally found it. These instructions indicate that the 4200 can be registered with the base station manually. This is when I discovered the undocumented solution to my problem through 30 minutes of trial and error...back when I first registered the 4215 base station, I changed the system from its default factory '0000' setting to my own setting for security reasons as the manual suggested. When you try to register the 4200 base station, it assumes that your default pin number is still being used on the master base station. After I did the manual handset registration and entered my "altered" pin number, the additional handset was recognized immediately! Thanks for documenting that one, Siemens! My other gripe with the 4200 phone is the low batery life as some other reviewers mentioned. The solution here is simple..ditch those el-cheapo factory batteries that come with the 4200 and get yourself some quality *rechargable* NiMH batteries. I use the Energizer NH15-AA batteries which are rated for 1850mAh. My "stock" batteries (which may differ from yours) are rated for 700mAh. After swaping out the batteries, I have not had a single problem with the batteries dying too soon. Other than the poor documentation and steep learning curve associated with learning how to use all the docunmented and undocumented features, this is a great extension phone. The small footprint is nice. I wish the keys were more "responsive" -- they have to be pressed and held slightly to hang up or to delete messages -- or hit multiple times. I wish the message indicator would only flash when there were voice mails - not just missed calls where no voice mail was left. The 4200 series handset is way too expensive. ... The design could be more ergonomic. This thing is kind of bulky and square -- not something you want to chat on for hours unless you like ear pain. Despite all my negative comments, this is a solid phone. The range is incredibly good for me. The ring tones are a nice touch as well as the evening volume lowering feature that someone mentioned in another review. I give it 3 out of 5 stars. Here is my breakdown: Minus 1 star for poor documentation. Minus 1 star for all the pesky little things that bug me about the phone (only some of which are mentioned here for space reasons). Maybe these little bugs will be ironed out when they come out with a 5 Ghz model.

Review: I bought this phone (base plus extra handset) so I could have a second phone without running wire; it does that part OK. My two major complaints: the range is no better than a cheap analog phone I had, and the battery goes flat in just a few hours.

Review: I had reseached cordless phones for over a month and although the Siemens 4200 is not the best phone on the market, it's definately alot of bang for the buck. Here are a few features I use the most. -(Personalized Ring volmue settings) The volume can be set to specific times of the day. For example, I have it on the lowest setting from 11pm to 9am (Sleeping Hours), so if I receive a call, I'm not startled by a loud ring. After 9am, the handset automatically adjusts to a normal ring volume level. -(Intercom) If I'm in the garage, I can call the other handset in the house. -(Handset Speaker Phone) Most cordless phone systems have a hands free speakerphone on the base. The 4200 speakerphone is directly on the back of the handset which you can carry with you. In my opinion, this is the best feauture of this phone. There are many other features that I probably will never use, like the baby monitor, but it's nice know that they are availble if I need it. As for my four star rating, the one thing this phone doesn't have is backlit numeral buttons. In the dark, it difficult to see the numbers. However, if your contact is in the phone book directory, you simply select it and the phone dials it for you. Overall, a great phone for the money.

Summary: Don't buy these phones...if there's wireless anywhere near
Review: I have a set of three of these phones (my mistake to buy all at once). They have had problems from Day One. I have had to return them to Siemens -- only to get the same problems back. None of their recommended fixes have worked. And worst of all, customer support has been atrocious. I recommend not buying these. I bought two other 2.4 Ghz phones from AT&T, and they have been flawless in the exact same environment.
