Summary: Can be much more
Review: This system is not the most user friendly system out there. The user manual is not very user friendly and has too many unsaid instructions. First I brought a recondition system, it did not last very long (three months) before it stop functioning, I then brought a new system expecting much better service. I have return all of my handsets for replacements for nonfunctioning reasons. The customer service people are very good and will send you another replacement when you are not satisfied with the system. Have a colorful day.

Summary: Great idea, needs refinement
Review: The Siemens phone system has some very compelling features that prompted me to purchase it in the first place. I have the 2040 basestation and 6 expansion handsets throughout my house. The fact that these units don't require a phone jack is one of the best features and the main reason I purchased this system. The sound quality and clarity was excellent, as was the range of the phone. However, there are some very important caveats to this.

I use Apple's Airport for wireless internet access throughout my house. Unfortunately, this happens happens to be on the same frequency (2.4GHz) as the Siemens phone system. This has caused tremendous amounts of interference, static and connection loss for my telephone system. Another cause of interference is the microwave oven in the kitchen. One particularly irritating feature (that happens quite often at a distance of approximately 50 feet from the Siemens base station) is that the cordless handsets lose connection to the unit and let you know by beeping at you in the most irritating manner.

This unit could probably eliminate a lot of these problems if they change over to a DSS type of technology.

Summary: JUNK! ¿ DO NOT BUY
Review: I thought this might be the perfect solution for a small home office but I've had nothing but trouble since I purchased the unit.

-- The handset needed to be replaced within the first month
-- It is VERY susceptible to power surges and will reset.
-- I'm now getting feedback on the answering machine and am losing messages. The customer service answer is to reset the unit (again).

When it works the sound is good and I can roam quite a distance from the base unit. Unfortunately the quality of manufacture is so poor I can't trust it.

Summary: Perfect small office phone
Review: Teriffic value for the office. Does everything you could want, and does it well. Only draw back is limited off cradle use, need to keep them charging and after a lot of use the buttons on the handsets become very difficult to press down and acknowledge anything. Life span of the cordless is 2 years, then they loose their ability to press the buttons and clarity. But these phones were used constantly in a very busy office environment. Now I need to upgrade to the 4 line version, but cant find it.

Summary: The phones are the best! Also great NiMH battery charger
Review: I've had these phones (the model without the answering machine) for over a year in two residences. They have worked absolutely perfectly. I get great range, great voice clairty. It is hard to believe I have the same phones after reading the numerous negative reviews. I do keep the phones in their cradles when they aren't in use. As the NiCADs wear out (whichall NiCADs do in about an year or so) I replace them with NiMH batteries.

An added benefit with these phones is the ability to charge batteries in the phone's base. I store the batteries for my digital cameras in the base of several of the phones. This keeps the batteries charged and ready to go when I decide to shoot pictures. Much better than leaving the batteries in the camera where they slowly drain.

Summary: Great Phone
Review: I have had very good luck with this phone. I really like all the features. The phone works well. I can't believe all the negative reviews. The range is not as good as some 900 MHZ phones, but from my experience it's not much worse than any other 2.4GHZ phone. I tried the Panasonic multi-handset phone which was not any better. I also tried a different panasonic gigarange (KX-TG2583), that was a little (not a whole lot) better range but it didn't have the features of the Siemens. This is my fourth siemes phone and they have all worked just fine. I had a 2410, 2415, still own a 2402 and now a 2420 (the first two were single line phones). I put the base of the 2402 in the attic of my garage (at the peak by the ridge vent, can't do that with other phones) and the phone works without a problem throughout the house and yard. for that matter it works at the neighbors house and if we are on a walk, it goes at least 500 feet (unobstructed, from the base that's in the attic). So at from my experience, I would recomend it.

Summary: High End Consumer/Small Business Phone
Review: You get what you pay for as they say. I have had a good experience with this high quality unit. I am using it with 2 lines and frequently use one line to talk while using the other for my computer. I have found the construction durable, the functionality to be superb and most features easy to use. I have had minor problems with the battery life on the handset and had to replace one set of the rechargeable batteries. The handset range has been quite good for me, although I live in a single story 2 bedroom apartment so I have not tested distance more than 50-70 feet. Overall, I think the Siemens offers great functionality and features for a very reasonable price.

Summary: complete, capable, cool
Review: The Siemens 2420 is fantastic! The desk station has a great speakerphone (great sound quality without all that annoying background "I'm on a speakerphone" white noise), answering machine, and other useful features (mute/hold/conference).

The handsets let you do almost anything remotely (call transfer, hold, intercom, switch lines, etc). Additionally, the handset chargers can be plugged in anywhere, so you don't have to deal with phone lines except for the base station, so it's easy to spread the handsets out all over your home/office where they're needed. The range is great and the sound quality is top notch.

About my only complaint about this system is the wireless handsets only do hold, not mute. (this is actually an incredibly minor point, and I can't think of other handsets that have it either)

Summary: Disappointed with Quality
Review: I was very happy with my Gigaset 2420 up until it completely died on me. I agree with the several other reviews that the set up of the system was somewhat difficult (and I have a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering). However, I overlooked this and other smaller issues with the system because it provided good voice quality.
However, it recently completely died on me. After each ring the main system appears to completely reboot/restart. All the buttons light up at once and the LCD screen blanks out. The answering machine does not pick up and I cannot pick up from the mobile handset. I can pick up from the main handset, but there are some beeping sounds before the call is actually connected.
I'm completely perplexed by this. There were no indications that something was going wrong with the system. It just completely broke down.
I would recommend others to buy a different system. I'm probably going to replace this system with a Sony or Panasonic system. They're cheaper and probably more reliable. They just don't look as nice.

Summary: Beware - poor comm quality
Review: Very disappointed - the system has poor quality when you are more than 10 feet or so away from the base system - lots of poping noises and sounds like a cell phone with a bad digital connection. I'm not alone - a friend just replaced his brand new system with a Panasonic due to the same issues.
