Summary: Terrible phone
Review: The remote unit is unreliable in the best of conditions and very often produces a horrible warbling noise that makes it useless. This is especialy true when located on a floor above the base unit. In just a few months the characters in the display on the base unit are illegible.

Summary: Continuous Problems and Frustration
Review: I have had the 2420 for over 2 years and have had nothing but problems from the beginning. It began with such a simple thing as the belt clip not fitting one of the three cordless units. But the biggest problem has been the audio quality. Out of the three cordless handsets one of them has worked relatively well since the beginning. One of the units has been nearly unusable, it will cut in and out to the point that any conversation is unitelligible or it will sound like you are talking underwater. Another unit has been on and off - working well at times and then it will act up similar to the one described above. The quality of the audio is such that many people think I am using my cell phone or am on a speaker phone!(by the way, my cell phone actually sounds better than these cordless units). The range on the cordless units was far less than I felt it should be.
My mistake was: I tried to solve the problem myself. I bought new batteries and I talked to Siemens custom support and they directed me to reconfigure and change some settings and it would work better for a while. By the time I tried to get Siemens to repair or replace the units they told me tough luck that it was out of warranty. It did not seem to matter to the customer service rep that I talked to that the problems were there from the very beginning.
My brother-in-law had pretty much the same bad experience with this system but he raised a ruckus early on and received a complete replacement from Siemens.
I've learned my lesson: Don't try to solve any problems yourself and don't buy any Siemens products.

Summary: Great phone system
Review: I was previously using a 10 year old 900 MHz Sony cordless, which was a good, reliable phone. I became interested in the 2.4 GHz phones because of the expandable capabilities of some models. After doing a few weeks of research, the Siemens appeared to me to be the clear choice in terms of features and sound quality. I was right. This phone sounds like a corded phone, and offers customization of almost every aspect of the systems function. The phone is well made, and the digital answering system is much better than all others that I've used. I would highly reccommend this unit for anyone who wants a serious phone.

Summary: 2+ Yrs No Problems
Review: We've used this phone, with the maximum 8 extensions, in our home for nearly 2-1/2 years. We haven't experienced any of the problems described by others. No range problems, even outdoors (base station is in a basement office). Phone has never reset, although I have it on a small UPS/surge suppressor so that we don't lose phone service when the power goes out.

The kids abuse the handsets pretty consistently, but in this whole time we've only lost one (a guest who accidentally slammed it on a hard floor).

The phone will need to be reset if you put another phone on the same line, particularly one with caller ID. But it works fine in conjunction with a fax machine and computer modem on the second line.

We get a slight bit of interference if talking on the phone next to our microwave oven while it is on. Not bad, but that's the only time I've had anything but completely clear connections.

Hope this helps!

Summary: Totally Unreliable!
Review: Do not buy it!!! Looks fabulous and is a great idea--but the hand sets inexplicably cut out in the middle of a conversation, not three feet away from the corded phone. A call to Siemen's help line left me with the impression that there was a problem with my line. Now that I see these reviews, I realize that this is the way they are--unbelievable for the price paid.

Summary: Defective design
Review: I purchasesd the 2420 over a year ago and at first every worked great. After a while the hand sets had trouble "communicating" with the base station. I contacted Siemens who gave me a few things to try which helped at first but eventually the system failed altogether. Siemens wanted to sell me a new base station for $... but my old hand sets would not be compatible; so after spending close to $... on the first phone system they wanted me to spend another $...to make up for their defective product.

Summary: Good idea, OK design, so-so features, Bad quality
Review: I investigated this system before purchasing and found it to be exactly what I needed. I have a large house with only three phone jacks: kitchen, living room and master bedroom. So, this was the best solution. I bought it with four handsets.
WHAT I LIKED
- No antenna to tangle or break
- Headset jacks (most everyone has them now)
- Handsets use rechargable AA batteries available everywhere
- Kept messages, CallerID and phone directory after power outage

FEATURE ISSUES
- You cannot access the base station directory from the handset
- You cannot access the voicemail from any of the handsets
- You cannot erasre messages when accessing voicemail remotely
- Sending a handset directory to the base may erase entries in the base
- With everything it keeps after power outage, it doesn't keep time and date. These must be reset each time.
- Date does not have four-character year display or entery
- Voicemail doesn't tell you time or date of the messages
- Documentation is extremely lacking and disorganized

PROBLEMS
- After just a few months, plugging the second line in cut the first one out. Then, having two lins plugged in rendered both unavailable.
- After a few months the handsets cut in and out and make it difficult to use.
- The batteries regularly overheated in the handsets, exploded and ruined them.

I am removing this system and replacing it with the Panasonic KX-TG2000B.

Summary: Only base unit functions well
Review: I have had the unit for a year, with two additional handsets. While the base unit functions well, within a few months the sound in both cordless handsets started to cut in and out, making it impossible - or at least highly irritating - to follow a conversation, especially for the other party. Siemens were not able to fix the problem, nor were they particularly helpful. Having now seen that others have had the same problem, I am looking for a different make and model.

Summary: This Phone Does It All
Review: The headline summarizes it-- this telephone does it all. Beside that, it does it with ease.

1. It was a snap to install.
2. The caller ID works like a charm.
3. The mail light works even if you employ a message system outside of the one available with the unit.
4. The portable handset has great reach.
5. Siemens customer service is reachable and responsive should you encounter a problem.

This is a pricey system, but well worth the money.

Summary: Ok for a short time ...
Review: We have owned this with three handsets for just under two years. Within the first year, two of the handsets just literally died, and were replaced by Siemens. A few days after the year warranty expired, the third handset started to cut in and out, making conversation impossible. Now, 22 months on, the base station has started to act strangely, making it useless as an answering machine, call logger, etc. The dialling out bit is OK, but is that why we paid $$$ for it?!
Overall, I'm happy the way they function, but not happy with the lifespan.
