Summary: Very good phone, but could have been even better!
Review: Overall I think the Uniden Tru 5885-2 is a very good phone. I give it high marks for aesthetics, but feature-wise, I wish Uniden had done a few things differently: (1) Cannot expand the system beyond 2 handsets. It seems that all the major brands these days (AT&T, V-Tech, Siemens) accomodate many more than 2 handsets, so I don't understand why Uniden limits it to 2. (2) The handsets are independent from each other, and therefore do not share phone books. This is rediculous -- each handset can store upto 100 entries, but they must be maintained seperately, who wants to bother with double entry. Also, the caller ID messages must be deleted from each handset seperately. To me, this is the biggest design flaw, and might be the reason I return this phone. (3) The loudest setting on the handset should be louder. If this phone's 5.8 GHz means it has better range, then it should be able to go louder in case you wish to use it outside. Well, those are my main gripes. If you don't mind having to maintain 2 phonebooks, clear the caller ID messages off each handset individually, and have super sharp hearing then this phone is ideal for you. I must say that the speaker phone works very well, I've asked people on the other side of the call to give me their feedback, and all have said that my voice is loud and clear both using the handset, and the speakerphone...so that is at least a plus. Perhaps Uniden will fix these flaws in next year's model.

Summary: Had it one year and audio cuts out -- no help from Uniden!
Review: I've had this expensive system for one year and it is currently not functional. The audio cuts out randomly -- you can sometimes hear very faintly, but usually, not at all. I changed batteries, but the problem is now worse. The "help" offered by Uniden was to use only THEIR batteries. SO now I can spend another $30 on more batteries and that doesn't guaruntee that the problem will be solved. Not bloody likely! Crap product, crap service!

Summary: Rock solid, crystal clear, great features (READ MANUAL!)
Review: This phone has all the right features. It is very sharp looking and is just perfect. The sound and clarity is excellent. It has so many different ring tones which are fun! I was looking for a 5.8 GHZ (since that is the best out there right now) multi handsets, speaker phone and a digital answering system and I found it all in this Uniden!! I highly recommend it!

Summary: Works well.....missing some options
Review: I purchased this phone about a year ago, after my dog ate my Panasonic 2.4 GHz KX-TG2583S. I bought the Uniden for the double hand set feature. This phone is limited to two hands sets but this is not an issue for me. The reception is very clear with no distortion or echoeing effect, even with the adjustable volume set at max. The hand sets are identical and can be recharged on either charging station. They feel comfortable to hold and the flat antana doesn't stick out so it can get caught on things or be broken off easily.(or chewed off) I like the variable ring tones. You can set each phone book entery to have it's own distinctive ring tone. We are three people in the house so we can tell who a phone call is for just by the ring tone. The down side is each hand set must be programed seperatly, no phone book mirror function. The hand sets have a speaker phone, which comes in handy when you are doing something else or are put on hold when calling 911. :) The hand sets also have an connection for a hands free ear piece/mic. In a different review someone said they have a lithium battery, this is not the case. It comes with a Nickel Metal Hydride Battery.(Ni-MH) Also it was mentioned that you had to listen to the complete message before deleting it, not so. You cannot use both hand sets at the same time, but, you can transfer calls from one set to the other one if required. The system is missing a couple of options in my opinion. Such as intercom, which is nice when you are at the pool and need another beer. :) and also it would be nice to know when the battery is low (a must have) before useing the phone or miss a call because the hand set didn't ring. Time/date display would be nice too.

Overall this is a good phone for the money.

Summary: Very good phone, but may be outdated...
Review: I have had this phone for almost 2 years now. It's been a workhorse and I love using it. Having said that...the only real problem I have with it...is that I can ONLY have 2 headsets with this system. Because of this I will probably be changing my phones soon to the TRU8885 series which supports up to 10 handsets.

I haven't yet tried them, but if you're in the market for a new phone system I would probably check out the TRU8xxx series phones instead (i.e. TRU8885-2 or similar - all of the TRU8xxx models are the same handsets, as each other NOT the TRU5885, but come in multiple configurations depending on whether you want an asnwering machine, the number of handsets sold in a pkg, etc...)

Summary: The Worst Phone I've Ever Had
Review: First off, for all the reviews who are complaining that the phone is 5.7ghz and they don't get twice the range of their old 2.4ghz phone. You sound foolish, the number has little to do with range. 2nd, to people who are saying this phone knocks their wireless internet off-line. I am confused seeing how 5.7 and 2.4 use TOTALLY seperate bandwidths. The spectrum is completly different. And as far as a I know this phone is a true 5.7ghz not a 2.4/5.7 hybrid. Maybe you know something I don't here?

About this phone, it looks real nice, the orange screen is something different. The sound quality is good, the volume is acceptable. No battery life indicator is upsetting. About not being able to "share" a call with both headsets, I don't know of any multi-headset unit in this price range where you can use 2 at the same time. About the phone having no attena, it has no visable one. But I assure you there's one in the top of the headset.

If they fix up a couple bugs and add some more features, I think a reversion release of this could eaisly score 5 stars from me.

Summary: Don't buy this....I rate this 0 stars.
Review: I just bought this phone on Sunday and with plenty of time to charge up. Hello...major static on the phone. Reception stunk. I am taking this phone back tomorrow.
