Summary: Some really Good features. Good quality
Review: I had two Panasonics, one 900Mhz DSS replaced by a 2.4GHz DSS both crapped within just over a year, exactly after the mfr.'s warranty bids you good bye. Man, i was pissed off with Panasonic. The only one benefitted was probably BestBuy since I had wisely bought their "extended" warranty and made use of it. I decided that no more Panasonic. I don't like their audio and now their telephones. they suck. So when Costco offered this one for sale, i decided i didn't want to throw 200 on a phone and this sub 100 was a good deal. nice small handset with multiple ringers for both phones to ring differently, a DO NOT DISTURB feature that's really cool for the land liners (not for VOIP coz it already has that :-)) A room monitor facility whereby you can use the handset/base to monitor some guests' sleeping kiddo. Phone books on both handsets with global exchanging feature, a direct dial button to your phone company's voicemail, speakerphone in the handsets too that work, long battery life, NiMH battery instead of Panasonic's NiCd, heck the list is long. Now you know i hate Panasonic phones. Well, this is a good buy, I have it over a year and is as good as the first day i used it. the antenna seems a bit loose though but that may be coz its more like some people love to play with it (for god knows why). It works just great with my VoIP too. i haven't used any more features as yet and at the price i bought, it was more than worth it many times over. I'd certainly recommend this phone. I've done so and those who bought it are happy with it too.

Summary: Worth Every Penny
Review: I have historically stayed away from Uniden because every time I used one, I hated it. I previously bought my favorite reliable brand and it had a horrible echo back to my ear, and all models with a MiMH battery are basically the same right now so I had to look at other options.

I was sick of NiCad batteries and the replacement needs, so I wanted to get one with NiMH battery. This phone has that and more! The phone itself is about the size of a Nokia 5000 series cell phone. It has a belt clip that makes it easier to hold and take with you. The buttons are soft and can be used by one hand. The orange display and backlight is pleasent to look at and makes it very easy to see the caller id, something I was not sure about. The speaker phone feature makes it great for use when dialing a business and going through those nightmare menus that have become standard. Wasn't it nice to get a person? I have used it in the garden when my hands were dirty....very convinient.

A lot of the features mimic cell phones. Like multiple ringer options and tones, you can dial and then press talk to make a call, (you can also use it the cordless way of pushing talk then dial), and it has an extensive phone book that you can program.

The additional phone(s) don't need to be pluged into a phone jack so they can be placed anyware. You can use the intercom feature between phones and it works like a normal phone call with the same clarity (doesn't seem like an intercom). This feture is nice because you can ring a specific phone or have a 3 way (handsets)or 4 way (handsets and answering/speakerphone) conference call. You can also put someone on hold and then transfer the call to another handset. Great if the call is for the teens (yeah, like they wouldn't answer the phone) who have a handset in their room and you don't want to yell for them to pick up the phone.

The clarity is awsome. I haven't had any disruption or noise at all. The baby monorting feature is great. I have used it when I was by the pool and wouldn't normally hear someone knock on the door. I set one up by my front door and had no problem hearing guests arive.

The answering unit is one of the best digital I have tried. Don't read too much into this though, because it is still digital and voices don't come across perfect. I can't wait until they come up with digital clarity of a DVD. The message indicators on the base and handsets makes it easy to tell if you have a message. I like the audio message notification. It isn't irritating. Just a nice tone every 15 seconds. It's good when you might receive an important call while you were outside briefly and wouldn't think to look to see if anyone called.

on average the battery charge has lasted over two weeks. Less if you talk a lot, even more if you use the baby monotoring function for long periods of time. I love this phone, and I am glad I gave it a try. It was worth it.

Summary: Uniden DCT6485
Review: I love this phone. I don't have the problems that Mark has. I think it all depends on your phone service and your area so I don't pick up any humming sounds on my phone. I know that was a problem I had with other phones I had purchase in the past. But the phone is neat. You can actually use it as 2way radio when you are at the mall or out period with the DirectLink feature, you can listen to your messages from any handset, plus there are so many neat melodies. They even have Christmas Carols also. It is small as a cell phone. I highly recommand this phone to anyone who would like a small phone with the features of a 2way radio. I think those where the two features that sold me on the phone.

Summary: Not working after 5 months
Review: I purchased the Uniden DCT6485-2 from Amazon on Apr 1, 2004 (should have noticed the date) since I needed a phone system with 2 handsets. I was impressed by the features, compact size and the reasonable price of this item. The performance of this phone is just fair because from time to time, some calls would have echoes like you're talking in a tunnel, or you would hear yourself talking like a time delay. Today this phone is not working anymore after a Verizon cable outage. I am now using my old Panasonic with one handset. I was always pretty lucky when it comes to telephones, I've used cordless Toshiba, Sony and Panasonic which none of them have ever quit working on me, they always lasted until I needed a new style or new technology. I am now shopping for a new Panasonic phone with multiple handsets. I would not recommend any Uniden telephones to anyone judging from the durability of my first experience with them.

Summary: Good features, disappointing range and sound
Review: I've had 2 previous Uniden cordless phones and have been pleased, so I purchased the multi-phone system and one extra handset. I like the system's many features, especially the caller ID visible in 3 locations now, and the distinctive ring tones you can assign to incoming numbers. I am unhappy with the poor range of the handsets, however. My daughter's room is about 60 or 70 feet from the base unit, and she cannot use the phones there. (I wish to leave the base unit close to the back door so we can check messages when we come into the house). My previous Uniden cordless reached her room with no problem. Outside in the "walkie talkie" or direct link mode, I found the range to be about 300 yards, not enough to talk to a family member at a mall or amusement park. Also, I am unhappy with the hollow sound, an echo-like sound when I speak, it sounds like I can hear myself talking in my own ear - distracting. The old Uniden did not do that either. Overall, I like the multi-phone part, but the basic performance is not up to expectation.

Summary: Nice system but disappointed wth sound quality
Review: Just got this phone a couple of days ago from Amazon. It's a nice system overall, but there are a few things that I'm not 100% satisfied with.

Pros:
- Lots of features
- Answering machine access from any handset
- Price
- Speakerphone in handset

Cons:
- Sound quality (some interference and background humming noise)
- Phone too small (earpiece needs to cover ear more to improve sound)
- Only 12 minutes of recording time
- Some echoing of voice when speaking into handset

This phone replaced my old 900MHz lucent 9050 cordless. The sound quality on my old phone was unbeatable (sound quality almost identical to corded phone).

Would I buy this phone again? Probably not.

Summary: Great features for the price
Review: Many great features on this phone system.

The only negative I've encountered so far is that this unit doesn't work with network voicemail. The handset has an LED that blinks when you have new messages, but only when using the built-in answering machine. If you have voicemail from your telephone company and turn the answering machine off, the blinking light doesn't work. I don't know why they didn't build that into this unit as it has almost everything else. If you want the LEDs to work with your telephone company service, you supposedly have to buy the other model that doesn't have the answering machine.

Overall, good value for the price.

Summary: Excellent value! Great features for the price!
Review: My wife works out of our home and is very picky about the phones we have. We have gone through several other phones (even another Uniden) and none of them have been up to the task until now.

Pros:
1. Sound quality is excellent! I have NOT experienced any of the 'tinny' or 'staticy' sounds that some have complained of. I keep the base unit in a location away from other electronics (although the satellite handsets are near computer without any interference).
2. The setup was fairly easy and I was able to figure most things out without consulting the manual
3. The speakerphone seems to work quite well. I was able to hear clearly and be heard clearly without having to raise my voice or talk 'at' the phone.
4. Storing numbers from CallerID is easy and allows you to give people distinctive ring tones.
5. The handset seems to be of relatively good quality and is attractive. The orange backlighting is actually quite nice and lights up the phone well.
6. Two-way radio feature. It's a nice add-on. I haven't had the chance to use it away from the house and I would still recommend a true Two-way radio but if you wanted to avoid the cost and have something that is decent this is a good alternative.
7. Global Options. Allows you to set Day/Time on the entire system from a single handset and, more importantly, allows you to copy the phone book from one phone to the other handsets!
8. Privacy mode. Prevents others from picking up the call from another handset. This is great because my wife has a habit of picking up the phone and dialing without looking to see if it's in use.
9. Do Not Disturb. This is GREAT for the weekend mornings! Prevents handsets/base from ringing and waking you up on those lazy Sunday mornings.
10. Headset. It's fairly comfortable and very clear. Sound quality of ear pieces is good and voice quality is very good on the other end.

Cons:
1. Separate 'End' button to disconnect calls. This is more of a minor annoyance than a real reason to consider another phone.
2. Lack of Mute button. Unless you're using a headset you'll have to pull the phone away from your ear then select Menu --> Mute. It would be nice to have a button specifically for mute.

Not factored into rating:
1. Answering machine. I haven't played with much yet.
2. Talk range (I've yet to go more than ~30ft. from the base while on a call)
3. Room Monitor. Haven't used it.
4. Call Screen. Haven't used it.
5. Hold feature. Haven't used it.

As you can see this phone is full of features and is a great value! I was able to pick an entire system (base and 3 additional handsets for a total of 4 handsets) with an extended warranty for less than $150. That's a deal by any standard!

Summary: The Best
Review: The only reason I bought this was the 3 handset kit that Panasonic produces for Costco was sold out. Well, thank God. This Uniden Set with 3 handsets is awesome. The Panasonic was $149. Costco is selling it for $99.

The features and call clarity are unmatched. Just don't mistake the cordless for your cell phone. They look alike.

Awesome !
