Summary: Excellent sound quality
Review: Before I got this phone I went through about 2-3 phones w/answering systems because I could never hear my messages. This phone not only provides clear answering machine messages, but while you're on the phone it has a wide range and clear reception.

The reason it's getting 3 stars is because is has a limited address book feature. I have one "Direct Dial" option where a press of one button speed dials one number. But there is no option to store more speed dial numbers. It has a phone book feature that works like a cell phone, where names and numbers are stored. But you can only access them through browsing and not pressing the stored memory number and pressing talk.

Summary: Piece of Junk (and I mean Junk)
Review: I gave this phone a good review when I first bought it (4 stars if you can believe it?!), but then after about a year I started experiencing some extremely annoying problems. 1st it almost always says "out of range" (I live in a 1200 sq ft condo, so I can't go too far "out of range", whatever the heck that means) and even when standing right next to the base it would still say "out of range".

Impossible as it sounds, that is not the most annoying problem. The most annoying feature of this piece of junk is that phone itself also has a battery, a special Panasonic battery (not included) that you have to keep replacing and if you don't get to the phone fast enough (if you read the manual, it says within 3 minutes!!) You loose all your stored info like preferences, phone numbers, etc and in addition to replacing the battery, you have to recharge for 7 whole hours. So unless you have another phone handy, that could be a problem. But the worst part is that the battery cover on the back of the phone is next to impossible to remove, 3 minutes is not long enough even if you had advance warning, so you will most likely loose all the info anyways. Strength is not the issue in removing the cover; you have to have 3 hands. So right now, the phone is on the junk pile and I'm off to by a new phone, not a Panasonic.

Summary: "Out Of Range" Problem!! (again)
Review: It was good for a month, then handset shows "Out Of Range" all the time (even we stand next to its base). We sold over 30 of them out, but 80% of customers brought them back to refund. Called tech support, just a machine answered and let us hold forever!! No reply at all by using tech support forms in website. We lost at least couple grands from reselling them as a junk and still left some more from weekly returns. No responsible company.

Summary: great phone, but then.........
Review: The phone worked great right out of the box. Best sounding cordless phone I have ever used. I have had the phone for about a year now and if speak for more than five minutes, pure annoying static. Also when I go to make a call, the phone reads "out of range", and I'll be sitting right next to the base. I'm sorry to have to get rid of it after only a year, but it just quit working.

Summary: DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE
Review: Being a bit of a techno-geek, I waited a long time for this phone to come out, since at the time, it was the first phone to have 2.4 ghz AND answering machine, PLUS it had really cool styling.

What a mistake! This is hands down, the absolute worst phone I've ever gotten. The sound quality was very good at first, then steadily went downhill and within 6 months became pure static. The answering machine (and I've owned 3 answering machines and 4 office mailbox-type answering services) is the absolute worst answering machine I've ever used. You can't even change the time without consulting a manual. It is absolutely inconceivable to me that anyone, letalone Panasonic, could make an answering machine this bad. I remember having a Panasonic tape machine 10 years ago that was superior to this.

You are much better off getting some $ phone/answering machine combo than this piece of junk. Don't be fooled by how cool it looks!

Summary: Overall a good buy
Review: First of all, I must mention that I got a Used model - I bought the KX-TG2583B (black model) over a year ago.
Here's what I think of my unit -
Pros:
1) The quality of the sound (handset) during a conversation is great - sounds just like a corded phone.
2) I tested the reach of the handset from the base - it's excellent! I could literally go 100 feet away from the house and the signal was crystal clear!
3) I like the fact that you can listen to your messages using the handset.
4) It is definitely very sturdy, I've dropped the handset a few times with no problems!
Cons:
a) The 'duplex' speaker-phone on the base is not very good. When I use it, people on the other end cannot hear me clearly. I think it is not true 'duplex' since both parties can't really talk at the same time.
b) The answering machine could do with a lot of improvements. You can remotely access your messages from another phone, but you have very limited options on playback, deleting messages, or leaving a new message. Even when you listen to the messages from the base, you don't have some nice features like 'instant review' - if you missed something in the message, you have to start all over from the beginning of the message. You also can't 'fast forward' while playing a message - you have to listen to the whole thing in the normal speed.

Overall I'm still happy with my unit which is at least 1 year old. Everything works just the same as it did a year ago and I feel the pros certainly outweigh the cons!

Summary: After trying 'them all', Panasonic is always a winner
Review: We had a Panasonic 900MHz phone that we broke, so we were in the market for a new cordless (had to have answering machine/call waiting caller id). When we were shopping for our 900MHz, we had tried Sony, Uniden, V-Tech to name a few, and they all ended up going back to the store for various reasons. We kept the Panasonic, which had the exact features we wanted, and it performed superbly. So, when we went searching for a new cordless, I pretty much knew I wanted another Panasonic.

The features are perfect and easy to use. When viewing calls received (caller id), simply press a button to add that name and number to your directory. Retreiving messages (either at home or away) is simple. For wall mounting, I love the way the phone rests on the base (it inserts into an opening on the top). This way, you lessen the chance of not locking the phone onto the base, and it falling. The phone is surrounded by black "rubber" material, that makes it more resistant to damage from falls.

I can't say enough about this phone, and I cannot understand why it has received so many bad reviews. We love it!

Summary: Bad Panasonic phone
Review: I bought my Panasonic 2.4G DSS phone with answerer three years ago. I paid [price] for it. Initially both the sound and the range were great. But 1.5 years later, static started to appear. Now the static is simply unbearable and we have no choice but to get a replacement. I called Panasonic and they say that it costs [price] to get a replacement item. We are turned off by this phone enough that we seriously question the Panasonic brand in general. So we bought a Uniden instead for [price] (Uniden Tru346).

Review: This is a duckbill platypus of a phone.
Paper weight, chew toy, vibrator? Maybe.
Phone? Forget about it.

Summary: Terrible phone
Review: It worked fine for a month or two then it started flashing "out of range"...didn't matter how close you were to the phone, even right next to the base unit. So we called their customer service, who told us to take out the batteries, unplug the phone, wait. Then turn it back on. Occasionally, this would work. Most of the time it wouldn't. Now it never works. Customer service has no advice other than unplug it.

Plus, our greeting on the answering machine sounds like we're in a tin can. Terrible phone.
