Summary: Among the best, not perfect, but quite good.
Review: After 1 month of ownership...Pros:
1) Dual handsets: can set up phones in most commonly used locations, instead of always having to track down the single phone that comes with most other cordless phone purchases.
2) Ringer volume controls: wide range of volume, instead of the typical 2 levels associated with most phones.
3) Comfort: light-weight and fits well against the head and in the hand.
4) Style: champagne color is elegant.
5) Headset compatible: no loss in sound quality (also, just make sure you get a good headset)
6) The specs on amazon list no belt clip, but there is indeed a belt clip for each phone.
7) Sound quality and range: excellent. A lot of this might have to do with the particular layout of my residence, not sure, but I've used Panasonic 2.4 gig and Sony digital 900 mhz phones and had lots of problems with range, even getting "out of range" signals on a regular basis even if calling from right next to the base unit.
8) Antenna: extends less than 1/2" out of the phone and does not need to be extended / pulled out (actually, can't be). This is especially good for people who use a headset and clip the phone to their belt. Most other phones have a 1" - 2" antenna which can jab into one's side / stomach when sitting down and it becomes really annoying when that is the case.
9) Multiple mailboxes: the 3 mailboxes are ideal for those living with others or wanting one box for personal messages, another for business messages, etc.
10) Battery life: no issues so far at all even though talking on the phone for hours at a time. Cons:
1) Outgoing message recording volume: it takes some practice to learn how to record the outgoing message without it being much too loud for those calling in.
2) At first, it is a bit tedious to program the phone and learn its nuances (volume, handset levels, remote call-in, etc., but that is common with phones nowadays and not unique to this AT&T phone). But take the 20 minutes to do it with the manual and you'll be glad you got this phone. It is worth the 20 minutes, no doubt.

Review: After the earpiece in my Toshiba finally gave up on me and my Uniden's lack of range really was not cutting it anymore I opted to do away with all telephony in my home and start anew. Enter the AT&T model 2255. The other reviews confused me but I'm keeping my phone...it is (for lack of a better term)..the bomb! Here's more: Pros:
1. The dual handsets are unbeatable. They feel great against the head and work well for the sholder/neck cradler like myself. If that's not your style they come headset adaptable and w/ a belt clip. 2. You only need one phone jack. 2. The combined answering machine system is great. The system is simple and intuitive to program and comes with 3 mailboxes. 3. The system is stylish in appearance & takes up minimal space. 4. The price I paid was great... . 5. Lot's of neat/useful features like Handset name where you can put a unique greeting on each handset; intercom; internal call transfer and announcing; call mute; distictive rings for internal and external calls; remote answering machine access; keypad lock; 2.4 Ghz ; great battery life; key-click; announce-only answering machine; toll-saver. 6. Caller ID function is great and deleting on one handset kills it on the other...big time-saver. Cons:
1. Echo on answering machine message if not directly up on microphone and super-articulating. 2. Minor buzz on handset. 3. 10 rings to choose from...all are hideous. 4. Would be nice if handset volume was on the side of handset.

Summary: Love this phone
Review: I bought this phone in spite of all the negative reviews and am very glad I did. My whole household loves this system, and absolutely dwarfs the system I replaced with it (which was a Southwestern Bell system) in terms of ease of use, clarity and comfort. I have always had very good luck with AT&T phone systems and was quite skeptical of all the bad reviews. I have experienced absolutely NONE of the problems that are listed in the bad reviews. I have found this system to be extremely easy to use and program. All it takes is reading the instruction manual beforehand. The handsets are probably the most comfortable I have experienced in a cordless phone. My only other thought is, possibly when this system first came on the market it had some "bugs" in it, but apparently most of the issues have been resolved.

Summary: Horrible
Review: The phones worked fine for about a year. Then the battery in one phone stopped holding a charge. No problem, $12.00 at the battery store. Fixed. Then 2 months later one of the phones stopped working all together. Tried 2 battery replacements. Now 4/2/04 the other phone is not working at all either and they are out of warranty. For $100+ a phone system should last longer than 2 years. We are switching back to the 1990 model we had before. It still works fine.

Summary: Love the Phone
Review: Ok, don't get me wrong here - it's not perfect. But it's pretty good. We have had the phone for nearly 2 years and asside from replacing the batteries we haven't had to do any maintenance or repairs. These phones are a bit confusing to use (left and right are up and down in the menus) but they aren't bad once you read the manual so you know how to use them. Also, many previous reviews have mentioned that the redial doesn't work. Actually, the problem is that you are pressing the wrong button!!! It looks like the # is the redial button from where the label is but if you check the manual you will see that the redial button is the one BELOW the "Redial" label. It's the small button that has no character or number on it in the lower right hand corner. And it works great. We have 2 dogs in our house so these phones have been used as chew toys more than once and they still work great. Battery life is about 2 days with consistent usage and 5-7 days when they are not being used much. The answering machine sounds great. The only drawwback is that there is a very limited range of volume levels that are useful. The first 3-4 are so quiet you can't hear them and the last 1-2 are so loud the speaker or amp distorts the sound.

Summary: SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!
Review: Trust me on this! I ignored reviews because I liked the look of the phone, the price and the many features. What a huge mistake. This phone is awful. I cannot say anything positive about it. There should be a selection for a "0" star rating. The second handset completely stopped working after three weeks. The sound quality is worse than terrible, the outgoing message is bairly discernible. A real lemon. Anything else is better than this piece of trash. I would donate it to the salvation army or a homeless shelter, but doubt that they would take it!

Summary: Garbage phone
Review: DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!!! I seem to be in the majority when I say this phone is worthless. I run a business from my home and the idea of a second handset was appealing. Unfortunately, the phone has a buzz in the earpiece that can be heard by both parties, the answering maching message sounds like a cheap children's toy, the reception is awful and the handsets do not hold a charge. In an attempt to "make this work" I ended up going past the 14 day retrun policy and am now stuck with a $100 paperweight. I expected better from ATT, but will NEVER buy another ATT product. Less than a month and I am going to have to purchase another phone.

Summary: Terrible phone! Avoid like the plague.
Review: I pride myself on making wise choices with electronics, but I totally failed when I bought this AT&T phone. There are two major problems: 1. messages I receive on the answering machine sound like a garbled computer-generated voice that is generally unintelligible on playback - no exaggeration, and 2. battery life is just plain pitiful. To a lesser degree phone sound quality and mic pick-up are also problematic. I confess that I bought this phone on looks and what I thought was a good corporate reputation - Clearly a bad move. My only regret is that I missed my 30 day return window. Now I'm stuck with using this "phone" every day and it pains me to no end. I'm currently considering giving it to Goodwill and buying a completely different phone, but I would feel too guilty knowing that someone else would be using it - I may just put it in the trash can and count my losses.

Summary: Great reception-hard to use
Review: If you're looking for a clear phone, this is it. Unfortunately, the phone is very hard to use. The memory is not very efficient, the callback feature is terrible and the redial doesn't work at all. The scrolling button for the memory is backwards (left is up, right is down), plus when you enter a received number into memory, the '1' is not there. Since the received calls show up on the screen without the '1' in front of them you have to re-enter the phone number. Also, the redial does not work. When I push redial, I get a #. Maybe they worked so hard on the clarity, they didn't have enough time to make it easy to use.

Summary: Don't buy.
Review: This machine is not worth the money, no matter how cheap you find it at Sam's Club. The phone echoes your voice back to you when you speak. Also, we were never able to use the answering machine function of it as the messages we received on it were totally unintelligable.
