Summary: Nice machine, good price, but no protection from solicitors
Review: As an answering device, this machine offers a lot of features
for an amazingly low price. The sound quality is good, it's
easy to use, and I especially like the informative lighted LCD
display.

I was hoping from the product description that this machine would
offer protection from solicitors, but that feature turned out to
be useless. The blocked-call feature literally handles only
calls identified as "blocked"; it's unable to handle or identify
(with its audible signal) calls identified as "anonymous" or
"unknown", which covers most solicitation calls. You cannot do
any other special call handling, such as a specific greeting,
with unknown calls.

This product is almost what I wanted. I hope they fix the
blocked-call "feature" in the next version. As an answering
machine, it's still better than any others I've tried.

Summary: Great Messaging System For Your Buck...
Review: For the price I paid for this thing, it's well worth it. The sound on it is crisp and clear. Has a TON of features. Even when the power goes out, everything is saved when it comes back on with out a battery.

The Good: Great Sound Quality, Tons Of Features. Good remote options The Bad: Might Be A Little complicated for the new user and a lot of features you really don't need might interfere if you don't know how to set it up properly The Bottom Line: The best one I have owned. And for the price you really can't go wrong, you really can't.

Some stuff it has on it Caller ID with call waiting 14 minutes of full-digital recording time with remote voice menu 3-Line backlit caller ID display (99 name and number memory) 50 programmable numbers for any of 5 custom responses Light weight (0.8 pounds)

It truly is more than your basic answering machine. I would pick one up and toss the tape.

Summary: Great product if you have caller ID and disposable income
Review: I am quite satisfied with my purchase of the 29992 answering system, though at $70 I should think I would be.

In purchasing this product, I was replacing an earlier Panasonic digital messaging system. My complaint about that unit was voice quality, and this Thomson/GE product seems to remedy that quite well, though the message time is limited (11 minutes). If you are using a microcassette based answering machine, you really might want to try a digital model. Digital messages are much more convenient and the voice quality appears to be ready for prime time.

Integration with caller ID is great and there are some nifty features you can utilize here, provided, of course, that you subscribe to the service from you local phone company. You can, for example, have a special outgoing greeting for a given incoming number ("Hi Mom, I'm really not here. I'm not screening your call.") You can also send callers who block their numbers immediately into the answering system. You can specify an answer for this situation that lets the caller know that they might want to unblock their number from being transmitted (though I guess that's a bit preachy). Even if you don't utilize these types of features, it's nice to be able to scan through your messages on the caller ID display. In this mode, you can see which calls have messages associated with them and play them at that time.

All in all, I'm very pleased with this product. You pay a bit for the features, but you get quite a few perks in return.

Summary: A terrific answering machine
Review: I bought this product over three months ago and I am returning to buy another for my mother. I am very impressed by the quality and great features of this product.

Two features made me buy this product. The first is that messages are saved in memory chips not on tape. On tape if you have consecutive messages they are difficult to delete without having to listen to the whole message. The second reason I bought this answering machine is that my area is subject to power outages and all voice recordings are saved in memory when the power goes out.

I read other reviews of this product on the sound quality of the recodings which almost dissuaded me from purchasing this product but I now feel they were misleading. For me, this was a significant improvement from my last answering machine and yes, the sound quality is superb.

Summary: I got my money's worth
Review: I was looking for an answering machine that actually used the Caller ID information.

PROS

Great for screening calls - Saved me countless hours from having to talk to telemarketers

Distinctive Ring Tones - Create up to three groups of callers and assign each group with a distinctive ring (so you don't have to look at the machine's display)

Reject Call Option - Selectively reject calls from chosen numbers with a standard announcement, and disconnects the line without taking a message

Create personalized greetings/messages for up to 5(?) phone#s

CONS

if the caller doesn't speak loud enough, the machine may disconnect the call

i wish it had a bigger address book for ph#s

Summary: A bad thing brought to life
Review: I've been extremely disappointed with this answering machine, for two main reasons. First, there is no way to retrieve an erased message. This is especially a problem because the system doesn't really pause after messages as you're playing them back. So after listening to a message you can't hit erase, or you will end up erasing the next (unheard) message. This has happened to me on more than one occasion. Second, the unit often clicks loudly when you pick up the phone, presumably because it's trying to get the caller ID. It's extremely annoying and also has interfered with dial-up connections I was trying to make on more than one occasion. Bottom line, I'd suggest you shop around for something built with real consumers in mind.

Summary: Great features for the price
Review: In addition to my personal calls, I am the after hours contact for software support for a large (700+) office. I carry a cell phone to provide this support, but have the calls roll over to my home phone whenever I'm in a position where I can't pick them up. Since all of the calls from the office go through a trunk line, I'm able to have those calls answered with a different message than my family messages, and the school that keeps calling to tell me that some kid I've never heard of didn't bring his lunch money can get their own special message too. I bought it because it was cheap, but I've been more than pleased with what I got for the money.
