Review: can someone please tell me what model replaced 7720 exactly? i want the same features

Summary: Operating Manual Needed
Review: I just purchased the 7720 at a garage sale yesterday. I am a Telecommunication Technician and I have figured out 97 percent of the features, but would like a copy of a manual on this discontinued item. Would anyone know where to obtain one ?

Summary: Why isn't this made any longer??
Review: I purchased this phone because of the talking caller ID feature--you can program the phone to voice announce up to ten phone numbers, or announce "Unknown Caller" if there is no ID. It's great for dodging telemarketing calls, and I don't have to have the handset within sight to know whether or not I want to answer a call. The only reason I didn't rate the phone a "5" is because the tab that holds the phone in place once wall-mounted broke off early on, and the button to access messages in Mailbox 1 no longer works, so I now have to access my messages via the handset. I am currently shopping for a new phone with the same voice-announce feature in 900 MHz or higher.

Summary: Would Buy It Again
Review: I too bought the phone for its call-out feature. It is the best innovation since caller ID; I can't imagine why it's been discontinued. It kept me sane at the dinner hour when the ringing began around 7 p.m. The phone I have has endured for several years, continuing to store its 20 numbers with codes, to store a history of 100 incoming calls, call out names of callers, and provide all the usual digital answering machine features. I wish someone could tell me where to get another.

Summary: Why isn't this made any longer??
Review: I've had a 7720 for almost 5 years (perhaps longer - can't recall!). I am presently in process of getting another one because the button that activates mailbox #1 finally gave up the ghost. After the amount of time it has been used, I'd say that is good for any product! It is a wonderful phone - purchased it originally for the call announce (talking Caller ID) feature, which stores up to 20 announcements.

Trying to find another one is next to impossible! Either they are used and in worse shape than mine, or they are almost the same price as I paid years ago... AT&T/Lucent discontinued this phone years ago (why? no one seems to know). Worse mistake they ever made. As phones go, this one is reliable, fills whatever need you could want a phone for, and lasts almost forever with some care. If you can actually find one new (or a used one in perfect working condition), I highly recommend the purchase.

Summary: Call out caller ID - best feature ever!
Review: The phone has been teriffic. The call out caller ID is great. It allows you to record who the number belongs to in your own voice and description instead of more common feature of a computerized readout of what the phone company assigns as caller ID to the number. Same question from me as other reviewers- does anyone know what model replaced this one? Would love to get same features to replace my aging one.
