Summary: Could be better for the price
Review: The worst problem with this phone is that periodically the handset loses contact with the base unit on incoming calls and displays the message "searching for base." Incoming calls do not connect until the third time the caller redials (assuming they will bother). Other defects: Several keys on the base unit keypad stopped working; and sometimes the handset recharger unit stops working. There is a fair amount of background noise on calls. One foolish design defect is that if you want to program stored numbers you must enter them into each handset individually.

Summary: Good phone in theory, Bad phone in reality.
Review: I had the honor of purchasing this phone from a now defunct dot-com just before they went under, which is the only reason I did not return this phone. I was attracted by the myriad of features and abilities of this phone, but find the resulting product a bit disappointing. There is a bit of an echo which gives the effect of trying to talk to someone while standing in a tin can. The range of this phone is not quite up to par with my old 900MHz phone, which means that I can almost walk out my front door without losing reception. In addition to all this, the antenna on one of the hand-sets (yes, I purchased two of these works of art) is going out, leaving me with periods of zero communication.

But it was a good idea, VTech...

Summary: Great features, lousy quality
Review: This cordless phone has great features - speakerphone on base and handset, caller ID, memory dial.

Sound quality is quite bad however- even with the great features, I had to return it. Tinny sound to the handset, the speaker on the handset sounds abysmal, and the quality of the construction seems poor. Really small handset, and somehow didn't feel as comfortable as my old cordless phones. Finally, didn't like any of the 6 hyper pitched ring tones.

Summary: Awesome
Review: This.......this is the best cordless telephone that I have ever seen or used in my life. It is just........awesome!!! I cant believe how well it works and how fast it charges. The only problem I have is that there is very light, extremely light static that is not adjustable except to get away from appliances and replocate the base. This is the best phone i have ever used and plan to use it through another 10 years(had it for a year and is like mint) Best phone ive ever used.

Summary: Very Disappointed
Review: So we needed a new phone for the house and another for my home office...
We purchased a 2431 with one extra handset and a 2461 with two extra handsets. Neither phone had sufficient range to go from one side of our house to a room on the other side and deliver static free, stutter free voice. We found that, no matter where we placed the base unit, you had to be within 15-20 feet of the base in order to get decent reception.

Oh, and the speaker phone??? Let's just say that you are going to want to be in a very quiet room in order to hear the people on the other end, even at full volume, but wow, hit a key and the tone from the phone nearly basts you away. Yet another engineering defect.

Summary: Exceedingly poor range, bad voice, bad handsfree, poor display visibility, attention to detail lacking. Avoid these units. We are on our way to the return line.

Summary: Great phone if you like phones that don't work well.
Review: This phone worked reasonably well for about a year. Although it worked, there were some volume problems, the speakerphone was a joke, and reception was mediocre. After a year the phone started working only 50% of the time. Overall I would say this phone is pretty bad.

Summary: major problems: headset programming, Sound VOLUME!
Review: I don't confirm bad sound quality or too much static others are reporting. My unit never buzzed me any static and sound is nice and smooth, but for me, 2 other features of this model cause major discomfort.

1. Volume. As others noted, the feedback sounds (such as touch tone key feedback, ring etc) are disproportionally loud compared to voice of the other party you are talking to. It would not be a problem if there were separate settings for the feedback sound volume and the voice call volume, but unfortunately, it's all bundled in one volume setting, so each button you push as you dial busts your ear and then you can't hear the part you are calling. I solve this problem by using a headset with volume control. In fact, I never use this HANDset without a headset; without a headset it feels like HANDset it's frying your ear well done. Very bad feeling. So, when I dial, I use my headset's volume knob to set the volume to minimum, once the dialing is done, I set it to maximum so I can hear what the rap is about...

2. Problem that can not be solved easily. Some multi-HANDset cordless phone systems automatically synchronize phone book entries between HANDsets. This one does not. Each HANDset has its own memory unaware of others. I have only 2 HANDsets in my household and it's a major pain in the back to manually keep them in synch and remember which one has which number.

Hey VTech, how hard it was to place the memory bank on the base and have the HANDsets to talk to the base to get the numbers and caller IDs? AT&T could do it, why could not you?

Buttons on the base are very small indeed, but it looks nice so I can live with it. Base microphone is very weak and you have to shout into it to make yourself understood.

Beside all that, very very nice unit, other reviewers covered all good stuff and I confirm that. Good enough to put up with these issues I am bringing up in this review.

Summary: Decent product but it doesn't have an answering machine
Review: My husband ordered this product so we would have more convenient access around the house (via cordless) plus have an answering machine. He also liked that additional handsets could be purchased to place around the house.

However, he didn't read closely that this product does not have an answering machine. The product description talks about messaging capabilities, but these features are those one subscribes to through the phone company (at a fee of course).

Although it's a good product, it didn't meet our needs so my husband returned it.

Summary: works great
Review: I've had this phone for about a year now, and the only thing I can complain about is that it doesn't have an answering machine in it. After reading other reviews on this phone I've noticed many people complaining about the range of it. For me the range is great. I'm able to go anywhere in the house and outside with it. Yes after some distane I start getting static, but that's going through concrete and a few walls. If you need something that goes beyond 100 feet, why don't you just use a cell phone?

Summary: Great Phone
Review: Used this phone for 5 months now, and it's still working perfectly. I don't understand the various negative comments that I've seen. The only negative aspects that I've experienced are: (1)The caller ID display protudes a bit and rubs against your face when you are talking. This causes it to sometimes get smeared with makeup. (2) The range is a bit short. You don't lose calls, but at about 75 feet, it's sometimes a little noisy. The extended range function doesn't seem to do much to help.
