Summary: No problems
Review: I don't get any of the interference mentioned in other reviews... this phone works perfectly and I love it. Not sure what they meant about the "hollow" sound, as I don't notice any discernable differences. My handset and base communicate just fine when they're right next to each other. Handset doesn't have speed dial per se, but ability to store numbers for quick dial (like a phone book on my cell phone). As others have mentioned, I like the speakerphone capability on both the handset and base. I like the frequency hopping spread spectrum technology for a more secure call. I like the earpiece compatibility (2.5 mm plug) for hands-free calls. Battery life between charges is great. Definitely like the expandability feature - I went out and bought an additional handset. I like how this phone looks and how it fits in my hand.

Summary: Nice features but poor sound quality
Review: I bought and used a lot of phones over the years. Had old 48mhz cordless phone, 900 mhz phones, 2.4 ghz phones. My take so far is that 900mhz is better than any of those other cordless phones. I don't know why. Also Uniden seems to be better on sound quality. The VTech 2431, my newist edition, has lots of features, #1 speaker phone at handset, handy when you try to dial for tech support or bank, you can go through the automated menu like a pro without tiring your hand or neck. and it is quite nice, the sound quality is better than the reqular handset.
#2. Multiple handsets up to 4. Well, I learned my lesion, never try to register more then 4 phones, cause you can't. I had to return one handset due to malfunction, guess what, it won't let me register the replacement. Had to buy a brand new one base unit. #3. spare battery charge in the base which also helps the phone when power is out. That is a very nice feature. #4 it won't interfer with your 8011.b wireless network. Very nice, I had a panasonic which will cut my wireless if I use it.

In the end, I still loves my 3 year old uniden which is loud and clear.

Summary: Excellent features, mediocre signal
Review: First off, for its price, this phone has a very nice features. I love having a hansfree speakerphone on both the base and the handset. The phone does everything I need to do. I was very impressed with it when I got it. I'd give it 5 stars on its features/price alone.

Unfortunately I have to give it 3 stars, because of its mediocre signal quality. This phone is simply unusable around any type of 2.4GHz interference, particularly 802.11b and 802.11g wireless networks. Long antenna shaped objects nearby also tend to cause interference. I knew these limitations before I bought it, and I figured it would be okay because I need to use this phone in my dorm room, which is not very big, so signal issues wouldn't really be an issue. But having said that, I can't go too far outside my room before the signal drops to unusable.

Summary: I wanted to love this phone, but...
Review: Best looking phone on the market and the best feature set. But I am looking for a replacement because it has been very problematic. I am somewhat of a gadget geek. I work from my home and have a wireless network and a big fast MAC and 2 PCs with wireless adapters - all of which could potentially interfere with the 2.4 G, but don't. The biggest problem is that having this set up has made trouble shooting other problems with the phone more difficult and the V-Tech support seems to always recommend that you have your phone 2 rooms away from your microwave, computer, or wireless router. Well, could anyone in their target market actually use this phone then?

6-7 months after I got the phone the microphone in the handset started going. By this time, I had lost my receipt (if you buy this - keep your receipt in a safe place!!). So I started using the speakerphone on the base, which after a month is starting to generate some annoying buzzing when dialing and during the other person speaking. At first people couldn't even tell I was on a speakerphone, but now, a month later, people are starting to say that I definitely sound like I'm on a speakerphone - you know that hollow, tinny sound.

No interference with my wirelss as long as I keep the base at least 2.5 feet from my wireless card.

Someone else reported a problem with the handset looking for base when it is right next to the base. Well, crazy thing is that I get that same error sound when I'm not even using the handset, just using the base.

Kooky phone. Has been a real problem. Can't return it because the problems didn't start until after the 30 days. Can't use the warranty because I can no longer find the receipt.

But it looks nice sitting on my desk...

Summary: I couldnt talk without it !
Review: I have had the phone for over four years now and i love everything about it. With most cordless phones you have to get more then one type and with this one you can get just another handset and if your not near the hand set or your to lazy to find it just pick up on the speakerphone. What isn't there to love about it. If you are looking for a long lasting good quality phone this is the one for you.

Summary: Pooly designed keypad
Review: The keypad on this phone is very small and gave out on me just after a year. I see that VTECH uses a similar keypad on newer models. Beware and don't waster your $.

Summary: VTEC nice to look at
Review: I find myself a gadget guy when it comes to electronics. That is why when I first saw this phone I figured it was a must have. Overall the phone is very nice. It has a variety of features that are really nice on a cordless phone. The best feature is a speakerphone on BOTH the base and the handset. That means when you are waiting on hold or checking your voicemails, you don't have to have the phone stuck to your ear and you can be anywhere in the house just listening while it is sitting on the table. The other features are nice like the easy to follow screen steps for redialing, caller id etc.

The fact that I am writing is just to tell you this: When you are shopping for a cordless phone the 2 most important things are 1)Is it clear? and 2) How far will it reach? Bottom line, neither is really that impressive. The clarity is ok but sometimes you will really get some static. About 1/3 of the time when the phone rings, even when it is right next to the base, it will say "searching for base" and it will never find it. I end up having to get another phone to answer the call. Finally, the range really isn't that great. It does work around the house but a 2.4 ghz phone like this should at least be able to do ok at the mailbox.

Summary: Handset Speakerphone
Review: I have owned this phone for less than 24 hours so I can't comment on its durability. I have a made a few calls on it and they seem great... huge improvement over a 900 MHz phone, but anyone who expects perfect reception from a portable phone should probably NOT be buying a portable phone. :)

What I need to comment on is the best feature of this phone, which Amazon incorrectly lists. There are TWO speakerphones on this unit, one in the base and one INE THE HANDSET. The initial product description only says "base handset." Incorrect. Having one in the handset redefines "portable."
