Summary: great phone
Review: I live in a small, older house that has only one phone jack. This phone is great for a situation like that. I purchased two handsets on clearance and have them set up in other areas of the house. It also works well outside of the house. In my opinion, it is well worth the money.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Best phone for large multi-story homes
Review: One year old phone, we have now gone through 3 handsets. The keypads go bad, and the base also stops working. You have to jiggle the base just right to get it to charge. Contacted customer service who also was no help. Bad Bad phone.

Summary: Fantastic fone
Review: I have had the Vtech 5.8 GHz system for over a year. It has been great. I bought the floor model base unit and handset at an office supply store. I purchased all of the additional handsets when they were no sale. Two are the full color enhanced handsets.
I love this system because the clarity of the speakerphones in the handsets and base is excellent. I can take a handset into my neighbor's house and place and receive calls. It would be about 70-80 feet from the base unit. The range is very good, although not as broad as my 900 Mhz handsfree phone.
There are plenty of useful features, like speakerphones and mute mic in the handsets, large redial memory, phone list and ring tones and vibration. I use most of the features. I would recommend this for anyone who needs phones but doesn't have a lot of phone jacks.
Also, a word of caution- there are similar looking sets. They do not function as well, in my opinion. Some have awful reception and others are missing key features, like the handset speakerphones.

Summary: Worst cordless phone I ever used
Review: I would have given this no starts, but the rating system doesn't allow for that. The first thing I did was install the batteries and plug the units in for 24 hours. The directions state 12 hours is fine for the first charge. After 24 hours, I attached the phone line. Everything seemed fine. I called a friend and was told they were having trouble hearing me; the sound was cutting in and out, and there was a vibration or echo noise. The sound got better when I was 3 feet from the base. If I walked to another room, the sound got worse. I walked three rooms away and the call was dropped. This happened more than once. I went back to my old 900 mhz DSS cordless phone and everything was fine. I called VTech's help desk, which I discovered is in a foreign country, and they were useless. The help desk person kept reading from a script and could not help me nor offered to take any information on the poor quality of the product. I am returning this product and strongly recommend against buying it. I will probably buy a Uniden DCT6465 2.4 Ghz cordless phone as I borrowed one from a family member and it works in all locations of my house, from the basement to the attic.
