Summary: If you don't mind missing left messages this one's for you
Review: Stupidly I bought a second one of these after the first one failed. As with the first one, after about a year, it was randomly not recording some of the messages. Prior to that, and if it were not for this problem, I was very happy with it.

Summary: Hard to understand messages
Review: The answering machine is pretty simple to use. I do have difficulty understanding the callers messages. Messages sound muffled and unclear, as if they are talking through a tube.

Summary: Great machine that didn't stand the test of time
Review: The AT&T 1717 has nice features and decent sound quality for a digital answering machine of this price. It is simple to use and serves its purpose well. After a year of use, however, the machine began fading (unable to distribute power from the cord to the machine) and quickly died. It's now useless.

Summary: Many Pluses, One Minus
Review: This answering machine is easy to set up, easy to use, and provides clear messages. We have had it over a year, and it seems reliable/durable. It's only drawback is that it seems very sensitive to power interruptions -- even very brief ones, as when one line goes out and there's an automatic switch-over to another line. Whenever the power is interrupted, the time and date are lost, and the machine will not function until they are reset. Overall, though, we're satisfied.

Review: This answering machine is fine. The voice quality is fine for the price you'll pay. The setup is simple, and I like the pre-recorded message.... "Hello, please leave your message after the tone".

Summary: not a very good machine
Review: This is not a very good machine. It has a good automated greeting with a male voice saying simply, "Hello. Please leave a message after the tone." However, sometimes it would only say "Hello-" and then the rest of the automated outgoing message would be cut off and the machine would go straight to the beep. I returned one of these machines because of this, and the one I exchanged it for did the same thing. Another problem is that it lets a caller just keep punching in an infinite number of touch tones without hanging up on them. If the caller happens to hit on your three-digit remote access code, the machine goes right into the remote access menu, where the caller can do pretty much anything with your machine or even listen to what's going on in your home with the machine's "monitor" feature. I would not recommend this machine. AT&T does not automatically mean quality like it used to.

Summary: Best macine yet
Review: This is the best answering machine I have ever owned so far. Digital is the way to go. It doesn't lose messages like a tape machine does and you don't have to replace annoying tapes. I definitely like the day, date and time recording of each message.

Summary: Straight forward without the frills
Review: This is truly the last bastion of decent answering machines out there. The functions and controls are simple. The setup is a no-brainer. And the little voice that tells me the time/date the caller left a message relieves me from straining to see my 9-point text size caller ID display. The outside/remote functions are great - you can do your basic checking of messages, change your code, or even listen for that burgular in your home.Some minor pet peeves include the wide foot-print area - really with everything on a PCB and some resistors, this thing can be half the size or designed vertically. The second annoyance is you can't fast forward/rewind within a message. You've got to listen to its entirety. Hmm, and I thought digital was better than analog... The big pet peeve is that I had one unit just gave up and died on me about 1 month after the purchase. There was this eerie howl of a voice that must have been the audio chip crying out its last whimper from a recent power surge.

Review: This machine does not perform. It began to fail after eleven months and finally stopped after thirteen. So we'll keep looking.

Summary: A Spartan Wonder
Review: This machine is a no frills easy to use telephone answering system. I had it out of the box and working in just under one minute. PROS- (1)Inexpensive, (2)Easy to set up, (3)Easy to use. CONS- (1)Recording quality is not the best, (2)12 Minutes of recording time may not be enough for some consumers, however, 12 min. is more than enough for most users, (3)There is no three. To sum it all up, this is a great "bang for your buck" answering machine!
