Summary: Limited ring range on this answering machine.
Review: I bought this answering machine as a cheap fix when the answering machine on my $150 ATT phone (with caller ID in the remote handset) quit working. The ATT 1717 works fine in conjunction with my half working phone. What I don't like about the ATT 1717 is that it allows a maximum of only 4 rings before picking up. This is not enough to keep all the telemarketer messages off the answering machine while I am away at work. I have found that nearly all telemarketers and telemarketer dialers hang up before 5 or 6 rings - which is what I want in an answering machine to avoid having to purge unwanted messages every evening.

Summary: Works fantastic after at least 3 and a half years !!!
Review: I did not even know I had this machine while reading the reviews and only when I checked the picture I realized that I have had it so long I had forgotten what brand/model I had. I think I might even have it had it for over 5 years !! This machine has never given me problems. Always leaves a clear OGM and records everything perfectly. Very rarely is a message unclear, but I think that is when the caller talks too loudly into the phone. I have never had any weird stuff going on with it. It always picks up and people never have to call back to finish a message. Nobody ever said that they had problems leaving me a message. I never have any problems setting the time, checking the messages or anything. Only drawback is you cannot silence the machine, but you can lower the volume considerably. Do not place in your bedroom. Overall, a truly great machine !!!!

Summary: A very good AT&T product.
Review: I have had this machine at home for several months now and it has worked flawlessly. I would highly recommend this for those that don't want or need caller ID and don't like those cumbersome tapes. Digital answering machines work much better than their tape counterparts because there are no moving parts, thereby reducing the chances of something breaking. Another benefit of this is the fact that there is virtually no waiting for the messages to start playing or for someone to leave a message. I would recommend this machine to everyone.

Summary: Easy-to-use, reliable, long-lasting, inexpensive
Review: I have owned the twin model Lucent 1725 for about two years. These handy tapeless digital answering machines are a huge improvement over analog tape machines. Functional buttons are all intuitive. My only complaint, mentioned by others, is that individual messages can not be advanced forward and back; you have to listen to the entire message or skip it. Remote access works well, almost as useful as a voice mail system, but at a much lower fixed cost, instead of incurred monthly fees. Interesting feature I have never had any use for is the room monitor which allows you to listen to your room remotely.

Summary: Good Value
Review: I've had the AT&T 1717 hooked up for a few days. Works well out of the box. The set-up directions are clear, and the voice quality is satisfactory. Unless it dies soon, I will believe that this machine is a good value.

Summary: Great machine for the long haul
Review: I've had this answering machine for 7 years, 4 moves, and 6 different roommates. It has never given me a problem. I find the buttons and remote use pretty intuitive. One of the best purchases I have ever made.

Summary: Decent valued, no-nonsense answering machine.
Review: I've had this machine for almost a year now and have been very satisfied. Although digital, the sound quality is almost as good as a tape, though it does sound a bit tinny at times.

The 2 digital answering machines I've had before this (one Bell South, the other GE) both gave me the problem of hanging up on people in the middle of their messages. It seemed like half my messages were people saying, "Hi Ben, I'm calling back because your machine cut me off...". I've never had that problem with this AT&T, it's very reliable.

It also does a good job of cutting out messages that are nothing but dialtones (although one does slip in there every now and then) while also giving you time to screen the call. It's a nice gadget, very compact, and well worth the price.

Summary: half a machine
Review: I've only had one problem with this machine but its a big one. It's cuts callers off in the middle of their message...no where near the 4 minute mark. I've had hang ups on friends and business customers.

Summary: Great deal for the money
Review: Replaced my old Phone Mate tape system with the 1717. The machine has all the features you could possibly ask for in a a nice small box which is very easy to use. The only gripe I have, is the digital playback is a bit muffled and could be clearer, though it is certainly quite audible as is. You can't beat this machine for the price!
