Rating: Summary: A great toy for everyone!! Review: This is one of the most usefull things I've ever gotten. These radios are excelent in design, durability & performance. The Nicad is a must since you recharge it as a celular & it last long enough for one full day with the kids.I initially I bougth 2 and planning to buy 2 more for the kids. (first two were for the kids). Specially great when you go shopping around and you can go away on your own keeping in touch with the rest of the group. It means freedom!!
Rating: Summary: Rechargable batteries are a must Review: This is the coolest radio I have ever gotten. In fact I have 2. The design, durability & performance of this Motorola are unmatched. The NiCad battery allows you recharge it as a cellular & it lasts long enough for one full day out in the woods or where ever you are. Plus you don't have to keep buying new batteries for it. I play paintball in the woods with friends a lot and started off with the 250s. I like these even more. You can easily get 2 miles of coverage in the woods between friends with these. If you plan on using these in the woods I would recommend using an earbud and mic or the headset with boom mic to allow the VOX system to operate more effectively. With the limitations of the paintball mask I can only use the earbud with mic. We even plan on using these during hunting season this year, but that is another story.

Rating: Summary: best fsr Review: we did a lot of research and found motorola to have the best reputation. we chose this model because it cannot be turned off by turning a dial, like the ta50's it has one of the longest battery life capacities and can be programed to shut down after a pre deturmined time to save battery life. plus the size is hard to beat. with all of the frequencies available you can talk to just about any other fsr even if they are not motorola; it is just a matter of finding the compatable channel.
Rating: Summary: Really glad I went with the Motorolas........ Review: We were in the market for a pair of FRS radios and I had two slight reservations about the Motorolas: 1. I thought the price was a little bit high compared to some of the other brands. 2. I wasn't really sure how I would like the "Push To Talk" button being in the front center of the radio. I'm really glad I decided to go for the 289's because they are VERY cool radios. The PTT button is not a problem at all. These things are so small you can reach the button easily with your thumb(or any other finger) with the radio in almost any position. As for the price, I think the Motorola 289's are built very well and are probably worth the extra(if any) you have to give for them. I didn't think the radios worked all that great at first because they were not real clear. That was only because they were too close together. As soon as we got the radios separated they were just awesome. Loud and clear for almost two miles with me in the car and my wife in the house. We've only had the radios for a short time but I don't know what I ever did without them. Used them last night to install a satellite dish on the roof. The only thing I didn't have much luck using was the scan feature. I had them set to scan two channels and it would never see any transmissions on the second channel. I think it's probably only because I need to read the book and figure out exactly how to set them up. There are lots and lots of features on these babies. Some of the features I will probably use all the time, some I will try once and never use again. Have to just say that I would highly reccomend these to anyone in the market for FRS radios. They work GREAT and they are the coolest looking(IMHO) radios on the market.
Rating: Summary: The best FRS radios I had!!! Review: When I first bought these at [local store], there were [money], and it included a [money] mail in rebate! I didn't mail in the rebate, because I wanted to test them out, first. The next Friday, my Law Enforcement group had an event that required radios. I just bought these, so I bring them along, not expecting any one to bring enough for the whole group. Well, someone did, and when he saw my radio, he was shocked. First of all, he said that mines' was "top of the line", and it was expensive. I just told him that I bought it from a shopping center, Secondly, his 4 radios costed more than what it would cost me less if I bought mines' in bulk. So, he just continually commented on my radio, and he got so jealous that he was about to exchange his radios for mine, but to bad for him, the radio I bought just went out of stock. So, I still have the T289 till this day, making it 5 months today, since I bought them. The only problem is that my light doesn't work, and that is getting annoying. But, overall, I love this radio, and I am willing to sell my other pair of radios to get this. :)
