Summary: Great for the price
Review: Got these as a Christmas gift. Very happy with them. I find them to fit comfortably and the noise cancelling works pretty well. I use it on the bus each day and it does a great job of cancelling out all the road noise and a good portion of the bus engine. It doesn't filter out all noise, but I seriously doubt any product does. While other models that cost a lot more may provide more noise cancelling, I find these headphones to be just fine for the most common uses.

Review: I bought these headphones for my husband to use with his MP3 player. He works in a loud warehouse and he says the noise cancelling really does work! Great item for the price. I don't mind paying more for a quality product!

Review: I couldn't believe how this product passed the Sony's quality test. Claiming 70% noise cancellation should be a typo error. 7% may be???

I guess I found how it cancels the noise. The hissing noise that generates when power on and the ear cover does the job. Don't even give a try, you will regret it.

Summary: Great Sony product from AMAZON
Review: I purchased this earphone because it was a great deal from AMAZON for only $25 and I had no idea of what is noise cancellation when I purchased this. I tried this earphone in my lab, which has big noise, such as air conditioning, an oil vacuum pump and a water vacuum pump, like that in an airplane, . This noice makes me a headace when I stay long. When I turned the cancellation on, it is very obvious that this noise was reduced. I think it will do its job on a plane too. Speaking of sound quailty, it is better than SENNHEISER MX500, which is at the same price range. All in all, it is dependent on how much you pay for it. For $25, it is a great gift for Christmas or personal use, but for $50, it doesn't worth it.

Review: I would call these "noise reduction" as opposed to "noise cancelling". These headphones cancelled most of the engine noise on my flights. I didn't even have to crank the volume on my laptop and cd player. Only complaint is that these headphone felt a little tight, unless my head is too big.

Summary: ONLY HALF AS QUIET AS $2 EARPLUGS
Review: I'm so disappointed with these that it motivated me to write this my first online review.

Was excited to try on first flight after purchase, to enjoy "almost quiet" alone or with my music on flights. Sitting near back of noisy MD88, placed over ears and turned on.

Sony product info and website clarified that only low-frequency noise is canceled, but I'm convinced that most of the engine and flight noise should have been canceled --otherwise what is the point of noise-canceling headphones advertised for in-flight use?

I compared over and over the Sony MDR-NC6 (with canceling "on" of course :) with my two-dollar earplugs --the soft type you squeeze and that swell in your ear for a good fit.

* Sony MDR-NC6 gave only 40 - 50% noise reduction, the remaining in-flight noise was quite annoying.
* Earplugs gave at least 90% noise reduction, the in-flight noise was hardly noticible.

The earplugs stay, the Sony will not be used:
* Sony noise-canceling only 1/2 as quiet as $2 earplugs.
* Sony sound fidelity as normal-use headphones not very good.
* Sony when noise-canceling adds its own constant and significant 'hissing' noise.
* Sony fit is most uncomfortably tight.

As this is my first noise-canceling product and experience, perhaps my expectations are too high -in which case I learned that noise-canceling headphones cannot be expected to cancel much typical in-flight noise?

Summary: Not bad for the price
Review: Initially the headphones sounded like crap (no bass and no high end, everything was washed out), but after 2-3 hours of use, the bass response was really good, i felt like my head was vibrating. the high end also became alot better. I guess these headphones required breaking in. the noise reduction works decently. there is a slight hiss when its on and when theres no audio. but the hiss is virtually gone when the music starts playing. I bought this for $25 on amazon so i didnt expect too much. But for $25, it sounds pretty good, comparable to some slightly more expensive headphones.

Review: this headphone's noise cancellation feature seems working (for the price)... but the hissing noise that generates when power-on are annoying!! for people with low expectation, they may think it is ok with the hissing sound for the benefit of noise cancellation feature. I suggest to look for something better for yourself, and definitely not suitable as a gift! (may be good for your old parents... just kidding... am I?)

Review: You will not find better noise cancelling headphones at this price. The headphones have been great from the first use. The headphones require 1 AAA battery (not included). There is a switch for the noise cancelling. I imagine the other reviewer did not have the noise cancelling turned on when listening the first time. When switched on and no music playing, you hear the white noise it generates. When the music starts, the noise cancelling amplifies the low frequencies (bass, etc) and with the white noise, you cannot really hear anything going on around you. You can hear outside noises when the music is quieter or there is a pause, but the noise outside is still reduced. For the price, you should not expect complete silence at all times. The headphones are great for commuters. It greatly reduces the sounds while riding the train or bus. I cannot hear people talking, kids, or the sounds of the train or bus. For the price of the BOSE, you could get these SONY headphones and a DELL 20 GB mp3 player...
