Summary: The Cadillac of Headphones
Review: After a few years of using the ER-6 with pretty good results they started to kick out on me and I also got tired of replacing the ear wax guards. Yes, intraear headphones are not for the faint of heart but they work better than any noise reducing headphones out there not requiring batteries and permitting significantly greater outside noise reduction than the Bose. They are also considerably less bulky so you don't look like a space cadet on the subway. I purchased the Shure E5c from beachaudio and they arrived very quickly. There was also a nice discount from full price. I was impressed by the packaging and the wide selection of ear plugs you could use. They vary in size and in materials. So someone with smaller ear canals who would prefer a soft material can be as easily satisfied as someone who prefers a hard material with larger ear canals. From the selection you likely will find a pair that gives you the most comfortable fit and best sound isolation. I have found them to be quite comfortable and remarkably I receive better isolation in sound without having to shove them into my ear canal as I had with the ER-6. I can listen to my iPod at 20 percent lower volumes while on the subway. The headphones themselves sensibly fit over the back of the ears very much preventing transmitted sounds from brushing the cord against my jacket as I walk. They come with a wire loop for removing wax so no ear wax gaurds to purchase - yes I know eww but I certainly keep my ears very clean and the sound quality and sound isolation is well worth it. So what about the sound quality - in one word spectacular. They sport of wide range and are quite clear from all frequencies. The difference is the fact they use two drivers instead of one and you pay for that difference but if you are using your iPod as much as I use mine then it is worth the price - commuting time for me ranges from 40 to 60 minutes per day. If you've got the cash and love superior sound then this earphones are for you.

Review: AWESOME!
1. Beatiful sound! One speaker for the highs and one for the lows with a crossover. Yes, there are two micro-speakers per ear. Amazing. The only thing better I could ask for is an implant when they become available.
2. I can't hear anything outside the music. Electronic battery powered noise reduction headsets? Forget it. This is true sound isolation. It's like being in a booth in a recording studio. You hear nothing but the music. It's simply genious. Make some high quality micro-speakers and fit them into ear plugs. With the music off it creates a vacuum of silence. (No really, jogging with these may be a bad idea if your worried about getting hit by a car cause you couldnt hear it.) This also means that a volume setting of 7 will now be just as loud at about 2 or 3.
3. Custom fit. Plenty of different types of fittings to get something comfortable for your ears. The three flanged fittings work the best for me.
4. Discrete. Looks more like a hearing aid than headphones.

I'll be using these for music some stages of recording and mixdown as well as everyday use in my MP3 player.

Summary: Worth the 5 Large Bills.........you get what you pay for!
Review: I am a Flight Attendant who commutes accoss the country. I had to get an ipod and a great set of headphones to block out the noise on the airplane. I set my eyes on the Shure E5cs and it turned out to be the best investment I've made this year! I had been using the Shure E5Cs for over a year now, and I must say that these are the best headphones ever! In fact, they are actually MINI SPEAKERS. The musical details that come through are just Amazing. When used with your MP3 Player, DVD player, ect....They block out ambient noises around you completely and immerse you into the magical world of movies and music! Buy now, you won't regret it! I would highly recommend you use the triple flange sleeves, they tend to be the universal sleeves that would fit all ears comfortably.

Summary: Great sound at a price
Review: I bought my E5C's about a month ago after researching online and reading every review, blog and forum I could locate. I suppose it's like a movie that's hyped in the press and sets the bar of expectations in the stratosphere. Everyone indicated that music became a religious experience with these wedged in your canals. I'm obviously not an audiophile, but the sound IS head and shoulders above the white ear buds that came with my G4 iPod. Part of that has to do with the greater isolation of sound and no ambient background noise interference. It did cause me to rip all my CDs to 192 kbps to appreciate the greater detail and clarity of sound. It also takes a fraction of the volume over the white ear buds. The volume is usually set to just a third or less on the bar scale instead of half to two thirds. Sound is crisp and accurate. The behind the ear and down the back configuration of the cord takes some getting used to and still seems awkward to me. If you move your head the cord scrapes on your collar and shirt and conveys that sound in your ears. Also if you're walking and listening, the footstep pounds are conveyed to your ears and you are aware of your breathing as well, again because of the sealed ear setup. I believe the ear canal arrangement will never match a premium headphone. The base is there and is conveyed, but you don't feel the presence, which headphones convey due to the physics of the physical air movement I suppose. But those take more power to push them, they are bulky to travel with and you look pretentious wearing them in public. For their class I give them 5 stars, but overall and especially factoring in their premium price I have to say 4 stars at best. A note of obvious caution; they're not designed to be worn if you're doing anything that requires your attention. You hear almost nothing besides the music, so you're vulnerable to anything around you, like oncoming cars or even other pedestrians.

Summary: over priced, there are better headphones~
Review: I have had these for 6 months now; there is very little bass and no real depth/richness to the sound. I compare this headphone to the Etymotic ER-4P (used with a TotalbitHead Preamp) which I have used for over 1 year. The ER-4P has a much deeper sound; the bass can be felt throughout your body. Overall, the EC5 is like listening thru a tin can (an expensive one). The ER-4P is like having the musicians wired to your brain, the sound quality is frighteningly good~ Caution: whichever in-ear phones you choose, please be careful about wearing outside as you will be in your own world; obliviant to noise from cars, bikers, subway announcements etc..
Have fun!

Summary: Amazing. Period.
Review: Wow.

I recently purchased a pair of E5c's and after about two weeks of use, I cannot believe I ever listened to music without them.

I am hearing things in my songs that I've never heard before - background instruments, vocal effects, etc - it's really shocking to hear your favorite music with the E5c's and realize that you've been missing these details for the past ten years. I used Sony earbuds prior to getting the E5c's and I always thought the Sony's were decent - now I can't stand them, they sound horrible to me ... I'd almost rather not listen to my music at all than be forced to listen to it with other headphones. (seriously) ...

I would HIGHLY recommend the E5c's, especially with the triple flange tips - smooth highs, detailed and powerful bass, rich mids - it's all there. Simply amazing phones.

Summary: Absolutely Amazing
Review: Yes, you are correct....these headphones cost beaucoup deniero, but are well worth the purchase if you have money burning holes in your pocket. Music comes to life and provides you with an experience like never before. Shure really new what they were doing by adding a crossover that splits the high/low frequencies and then rockets them to two pairs of low mass/high energy drivers. As for the fit, takes a little getting used to, but as soon as you find the right sleeves, you are in for many hours of listening enjoyment. Currently use my shures with an iRiver ihp-120 (Great companion to such a nice set of cans) and have no problems whatsoever, except for now I'm actually understanding and realizing the differences between an MP3 song burned at 96K's and then one burned at 160Ks. One last thing.... the bass in these things are spectacular. Go ahead and splurge a little...you deserve it!
