Rating: Summary: Great phone, but . . . Review: I agree with what most of the people reviewing the phone that have given 5 stars thus far. The integration of PDA and phone features are seemless, but a couple of improvements can make this phone more superior. My gripe about the Treo 600 is (which I hope Handspring fixes in the form of a software patch or something) the display remains lite the entire time that you use the phone. I would bet that the battery life would be much longer if the display would dim or turn off after being on the phone for a certain duration. Another problem (that Handsping should considering fixing in the next model) is that the phone has a built-in internal battery. I would much rather have the option to buy replacement batteries (an external battery is available, but it increases the size a lot . . . remember the old Motorola brick phones of the mid-90's?). One last thing is a "nice to have" design change. Presently, the SD slot is on the top of the phone. It should be moved somewhere else (maybe behind a compartment) so that the SD card is not easily popped out. Overall, the Treo 600 is great. I have had it for 2 weeks now and have not had any problems. The Samsung i500 is also a very good, portable PDA phone, but does not have as many features as the Treo 600 (e.g. 16MB vs. 24MB and no SD slot). Until Handspring fixes the issues that I described above, I would have to say that both the Treo 600 and i500 are comparable (given the pros and cons of both). If you are considering either one of the phones, ask yourself which features are more important to you. T612@yahoo.com
Rating: Summary: Great phone/PDA/email tool/web browser/MP3 player Review: I have used the Treo 600 for about a month, after switching from the Treo 300. The Treo 300 was great, but the the Treo 600 is even better. I have had no problem with it, and it does everything it is supposed to do. Some of the other reviewers have already covered the basics, but I would like to add that that it is a good MP3 player as well. You can store MP3s on an SD card (which you purchase separately) and play them either over the speaker (which is good for a phone speaker, but not great for music), or listen over headphones if you buy a $5.00 headphone adapter from Handspring. The software is free when you register with Handspring. Also, you can download and play Audible.com recorded books over the Treo, which is one of my favorite features. I use a cassette adapter (and the $5.00 adapter) to play MP3s and Audible books through my car speakers. I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Yes for enthusiasts, wait if you are Joe User Review: No question that if your heart wants to be connected to the internet, email on the go, news, and a Palm operating system this is it. More than just the connection, it is a hard to describe integration that makes the Treo special. An alternative would be a Palm T3 (with much better resolution) and a Bluetooth phone such as the T 610 Sony Ericcson or the upcoming Sprint T 608 in Feb/04. But are you going to drive, walk down the street, and move around town holding the Palm in one hand and the phone on the other? No. The Treo can be used with only one hand as you are running down the street! And you know, I've noticed that on the road, one is always on the go! I have it and I love it. However, the NEXT iteration of the device will be the first that will finally get it. You see the resolution NOW is 160 x 160. While that is OK for browsing and getting quick dirty info from the Internet and email and a lot of games, when the device goes to 320 x 320 you will be able to carry pictures, really browse with "demo pride" or "sales quality." The next iteration will also have a recorder, a better camera (right now the camera is a toy), and probably built in Bluetooth and maybe even Wifi. With so much promise and Sony Ericcson nipping at the heels with the incredible but clueless Sony P900 (it has the resolution but no keyboard and no integration), Handspring I mean I bought it for millions Palm will be forced to put some pretty nice features into the Treo 700. And that better be out by June, cause by then Sony will be swinging P900's from Victoria Secret models' necks. That Treo 700 (I'm making it up...the 700 and the "next model"...nothing has been announced) will be the pencil that became the pencil, whereas before it was a caveman holding a piece of coal. There really is little difference between the coal and the pencil, but THAT made the difference and really the pencil, like toilet paper, really really really unless you love pictures of Mickey Mouse on your pencil and TP...both products got to the point where improvements now are practically unneeded...almost the level where fax machines are now. Fax machines are pretty much perfect. Well the Treo 600 is a step. Wonderful for the enthusiast like me, I like to show off, to see the news during movie previews, to answer email from the road, to be the one that can flash a weather radar map at the first sign of rain, to play MP3s on the road, to always have a camera, etc., etc. But for Joe User I can definitely see waiting. I refuse to consider myself a rational buyer of the technology when they have it together in 6 months to a year. I jumped in NOW. Limitations I don't care. I'm in the Matrix. I'm Neo. I'm connected NOW. The fact that I got a divorce, crashed the little device installing extra software like a nerd, that my social life went to 0 from 0 those little things do not matter. Like George in Sienfeld, "though I have no prospects I like to watch the news"...while the train is moving. If you are at all obsessed, neurotic, interested, get it. If you are rational and boring wait till next year when everyone has it...the phone that "George had last year."
Rating: Summary: Best Palm OS Smartphone right now but I'll wait Review: The Treo 600 for Sprint PCS is the best Palm OS smart phone right now, and probably the best smart phone of any platform. Its best feature is the tiny but highly useable thumbboard. While I also like the AT&T Motorola MPx 200 Pocket PC smart phone, that thing does not have a keyboard so it's a pain to enter data. With the Treo 600, you get a very responsive Palm OS 5.2.1 PDA and a very competent cell phone, and entering data is a breeze. I played with the gizmo for a couple days but decided to wait for the GSM version from AT&T. The GSM version is actually slightly smaller and lighter, and also IMHO looks better than the CDMA version. Also the GSM Treo 600 is quad-band (at least the one being sold by AT&T), which means it'll work anywhere in North America, Europe, Middle East, and Asia, where GSM can be found. (You won't find CDMA anywhere outside the U.S.) Also the GSM version is supposed to have better battery life, as well as better 3G support, than the CDMA one. In short, if you are a CDMA guy and looking to buy a smart phone, the Treo 600 is your best bet. If you are a hardcore Pocket PC person, take a look at the Motorola MPx 200.
Rating: Summary: Changed the way I do business! I'm soo organized! Review: This thing is amazing! I love all the features and form factor. I can take pics for fun, surf internet and check email while away from office or in down time anywhere! This device is very functional; my favorite features are it's size and ability to use it one handed. I'd recommend this to anyone, this is simply the best tech purchase I have ever made. My wife also has one and she agrees (she loves to use the mp3 player). Highly recommended!
Rating: Summary: Fantastic!!! Review: My husband and I both bought one of these little gems when they first came out and can not have been more pleased. We've probably sold another 10 just by showing it off. Treo really put it together well. The phone works nicely, but really shines with the hands-free set. I have walked through airports and Walt Disney World and not had a problem hearing anything and my caller gets what I say clearly. The palm is combined and co-functions beautifully. Need to reach someone and don't know the phone number-Web yellow pages and select and the phone will dial it for you! No more 411 calls. My husband was worried about switching from Graffiti to a keyboard, but as per the sales pitch-he now feels the keyboard is faster. And the addable mp3 software is even decent! But the quirky thing that really sells this phone to people is it's built in camera. It isn't fantastic and the pictures are a bit grainy, but they are recognizable-what do you want in a 2" screen? When I went to Walt Disney World, my husband was on a business trip elswhere. I simply took pictures as I went and we sent them back and forth. The Treo 600 with pictures of my kids and Winnie the Pooh was the hit of HIS dinner! Negatives are: No voice activation for phone calls-but you can buy this from Sprint for cheap. If you are on a send or receive in a web session, the phone dumps into Voicemail. I haven't figured out how to get a dropped call tone yet, and sometimes you are talking and figure out you lost the call 3 mins ago. Don't plan on using this as a digital camera for more than impression shots. ALOT of your old Palm software may ***NOT*** work on Palm OS5 and the Treo in particular. The filter only gets about 25% of it! Start from scratch and import 1 piece at a time! Most of the Pay/Play music services are switching to .wma formats and there are no Palm applications that support that. iTunes only supports AAC .mp3's, and that is a no go as well. But these things are fairly minor, and shouldn't keep you from getting this fantastic new product!
Rating: Summary: TREO -- A TRIED AND TRUE SMART PHONE! Review: I have been a Treo owner now a little short of one month and here is my critique of the unit: Being a techie and the lover of gadgets, I learned about the Treo on the Forum www.Sprintusers.com. After seeing what the phone could do for me: including eliminating the need to carry both Pocketpc and mobile phone + the ability to surf the internet, my interest was definately Spiked! After extensively researching and finally demo'ing this product I immediately ordered it from the then Handspring. What I love: It is an ALL IN ONE! I'm the type who will turn the van around and go back and get my phone or PDA if I have left one behind and this is eliviated with the Treo. Besides what I just stated above, it is small and compact in size, it intergrates well and it is small enough to feel comfortable as a mobile phone, yet solid feeling. The built in keyboard makes typing so simple and the MP3 player is icing on the cake. The camera is good for outdoor or well lit pictures which is better than nothing. The pictures seem to come out better when viewed on a desktop. Shoutcast, allows the ability to download or access radio channels is also a plus to many. The SD slot for expansion. You are not limited by the size of internal memory. One of the first things I did after my purchase of the unit was order an 256 SD card from E-bay. What I do not love: This phone has a lot abilities, but it takes a minute to get it set up and a little longer to have it optimized using the various softwares out there. I needed the help of fellow Treo owners and a couple of Forums to figure some things out. I do not like that it did not come with a standard E-mail, SMS service and the camera could have been better too. The volume on Alerts can be an issue, but I downloaded ringtones from www.3Gupload.com. Overall, I gave it 5 stars because as of this date, IMO it is the best Smartphone on the market. BTW, a great site/Forum to go to and get information on researching and maximizing the unit is www.treocentral.com. I find it invaluable for help, software both existing and new as well as for other useful Treo data.
Rating: Summary: best smart phone to date ! Review: just perfect smart phone///well done !
Rating: Summary: 2 thumbs up!! Review: I received my Treo 600 last Friday from Treocentral, with service from Sprint. I have been testing it and comparing the Sprint coverage against AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon and Nextel. I have found that even when I had only 1 signal bar, the calls still went through. While Nextel's coverage was as good, they don't have a pdaPhone that can compare to the Treo 600. The only thing lacking on the Treo 600 is the ability to use grafitti, which I have become very used to on my Palm i705. I am cancelling my AT&T account, as well as my Palm.net account (no longer need that since the Treo 600 replaces my Palm i705) and going with the Treo 600 for both wireless phone and Palm Pilot features. One device and a lower monthly bill. Who could ask for more? Now if grafitti becomes available for this unit, I will be in heaven.
Rating: Summary: Treo 600 Great; to bad not on Verizon Review: I got to play with a friend's Treo 600 on Sprint. It is clearly the BEST phone on the market, bar none. Unlike most of Verizon's stuff, the Treo is up-to-date, state-of-the-art with Palm's latest OS 5.2, a fast ARM processor, color screen, expansion slot (SDIO) which will take memory and in the near future, bluetooth and WiFi. It will sync with Macintosh and Windows too. But what is really great is the way they made the software so intuitive - easy and fun to use. If you have Sprint or live in an area where Sprint has good coverage, I would jump on it. If you have Verizon, sign the Treo 600 - Verizon petition (2000 names at this time!) at:......
