Rating: Summary: Phone Good, AT&T bad Review: I got this phone primarily for the Smartphone platform. Unfortunately, I had no service in my office (in the middle of Lowell, MA) and thus it was useless to me. AT&T told me that a dual band phone would work better as far as coverage. Its too bad, I kind of liked the phone. I had no troubles with the syncing with outlook or doing some of the basic customization. I would give the phone 4 stars, but the performance doesnt matter if you can't get calls.
Rating: Summary: One of the best..but the service make it useless Review: Bought this phone a month ago. I really liked the phone, lots of cool features, but AT&T's Service and connection make it useless. 80% of the time I was unable to make a call or access the internet. My MMode was down for two weeks. Called At&T several times. They said I need a 3 bars on the signal strength to download MMode again. The maximum I can get is only 2, if I am lucky. I am gona call AT&T and Amazon to cancel my service and return it. I think I will wait few more months for a smart phone from some other carriers other than AT&T.
Rating: Summary: CLOSE BUT NO CIGAR Review: Because of work, I keep all my calendar and contacts information in Miscrosoft outlook. Not wanting to carry both a PDA and phone to meetings, and wanting the Outlook syncing capability, I bought this phone. Here is my overall review:The Good - Phone design. Sleek flip phone - Outlook syncing. Syncs effortlessly and quickly. - Phone Quality: Average. Better to use the phone rather than the headphone. - Information: easy to navigate home screen that includes contacts, calendar, email, and internet access. - Screen - Nice display with color LCD. The Bad - Display choices are limited. - Sound choices for ring are also limited. The Ugly - THE CALLER ID on the external LCD does NOT work. After 18 calls to various ATT reps, I finally spoke with Motorola who told me that it is a glitch in the phone as soon as the handset is synced with outlook. Let me understand this - Motorola designs a phone to be compatible with Outlook but then if you sync, you no longer have access to the external Caller ID screen. - ATT customer service is AWFUL. They sent a phone to me with non working number and it took nearly a week to get a working #. They are switching their software and the service is awful in the interim. - Phone Reception. I am often with friends who can get service on their phone and I cannot get service on mine. I am not sure if it is ATT, the phone, or a combination of both. The price for the phone here is cheap but you are going to have to decide if you are willing to go all these problems with the phone.
Rating: Summary: Best phone I've ever used, but not without it's flaws Review: This phone is so painfully close to being perfect. Straight out of the box it's a joy to play with. Navigation is intuitive and ActiveSync works seamlessly with my computer after only 5 minutes of setup. All my contacts (~100) were downloaded to my phone in a matter of seconds. One Caveat: I've heard that if you have alot of contacts (+500), the external caller ID function no longer works - it displays the phone number but no name - for efficiency reasons. Web navigation on this thing is the easiest I've seen on any Java phone, and is second only to full-on PDAs. Almost everything is customizable. You can download skins, ringtones, and themes to personalize your phone. Third party software makes the thing even more amazing, allowing you to instant message people on the go, make slideshows of photos, play movies. And the screen is just a thing of beauty. The reason this phone doens't get 5 stars is mostly because of ATT. Coverage in the Seattle area is generally great, but has occasional hiccups. In a metropolitan area, I expect excellent coverage and ATT just barely delivers in that regard. Data coverage, when I can get it, is faster than I've seen with any other service. Also, there are tiny things that Motorola just didn't seem to get exactly right. The jog dial on the side of the phone is useless and only controls volume. Since it is the only external control on the phone, I end up having to open it to do things like change my ring profile from Normal to Silent. My previous motorola V60 had 4 buttons on the outside that allowed me to control these things with ease without opening the phone. I was amazed that this thing has a speakerphone. It works well too. People I put on speakerphone could barely tell. On my end, the speakerphone is a little underpowered but that's to be expected. It's handy for letting several people on your end talk to one person on the other end. One gripe I had was that closing the phone while in speakerphone mode causes you to hang up. The included hands-free headset is very poor. When using it, I need to talk very loudly just to sound normal on the other end. I've heard from some people that this is generally the way things work with most cell phones. On my V60, people couldn't tell I was using the headset, so this is still a step down for me in that regard. I love the phone - I think Smartphone 2002 is more than adequate, but if you absolutely need a camera or bluetooth, I think those models will be coming out next year. If you don't need those two features, this phone at $...is a basement bargain, a good deal at $..., and almost worth it's $...sticker price. The phone itself gets 4.5 stars, ATT gets 2.
Rating: Summary: Great Phone - weak PDA Review: As others have said in much more detail - this is a well designed, well made, quality phone. Excellent look and feel. THE weakness is the inability to easily enter information if you're using this as a PDA. Using the keypad as a keyborad to record contacts, appointments, notes or messages is VERY inefficient. If they offered a touch sceen keypad (like PALM) or even a small (or RIM) style keypad attachment I'd be thrilled. So, if your life is static it's a great device. If you need to take notes and make changes when you're away from a PC, you may want to wait for a future version or check out teh Samsung / PALM integrated phone.
Rating: Summary: Could do better Review: This is a nice piece of kit, particularly if you like "clamshells". However, it falls far short of expectations on two counts. 1. It uses the old Microsoft Windows Mobile 2002 OS. The current Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 OS in infinitely faster to run and much more intuitive. It includes several enhanced applications, pocket media player 9 codecs, better email facilities, a much improved Pocket Internet Explorer and .Net capability which is now /will shortly be ESSENTIAL. 2. It has no bluetooth capability inbuilt, although there may be the possibility that an add on will emerge - at extra cost. The current leader of the pack in Smartphone technology is the Orange SPV E200, which has the essential extras. Doubtless Motorola will bring an "enhanced" model out in the new year, but until then save your money notwithstanding the "givaway" pricing.
Rating: Summary: Great Phone, shame about the service Review: While I was ecstatic with the phone itself (flash memory up to a gig sufficient for my mp3s, great screen design and navigability, ability to wirelessly synch my exchange mail and contacts) the impact was greatly reduced by the fact that I have not been able to activate my phone! AT&T implemented a "new system" which means being able to get existing digital service moved or activating a new GSM account is sporadically possible (if at all). I have now been waiting for nearly 3 weeks. My advice would be to wait a while before taking the plunge...
Rating: Summary: Cool Phone but worst customer service by AT&T Review: I am giving 4 stars to this phone just due to the worst customer service experience I had with AT&T. This is for both their phone and email customer service. They took 10 days 6 Calls and 8 Hours of my time to activate this phone. I have been AT&T wireless customer for more than 2 years and now planning to switch to sprint when my other phone contract ends next year.
Rating: Summary: Wow!!! Time to get rid of the PDA Review: This is a GREAT phone!!! If it had Bluetooth, a camera, push to talk (direct connect for you Nextel folks), and GPS capabilities it would be AWESOME!! Maybe Motorola will build one with all of these features in the future. In the meantime, the MPx200 is a great device. Calls are clear. Coverage is great (I live in So. California). PDA like functions are more than adequate; certainly sufficient enough to make you consider getting rid of your PDA. The phone is upgradable with your own screen background pics and sounds...for free. No need to pay for downloaded backgrounds or ringtones. Heck...forget the crappy downloaded MIDI ringtones, make a (brief) WAV clip of an actual song. At the special pricing the phone is currently going for, it is well worth the price of admission.
Rating: Summary: Best phone i had... Review: I have the MPX200 now for 6 days and the GSM coverage is Excellent... I really like the outlook Email were all i do is type the Adress and record a massage and of it goes..No typing and the other person gets to here how i sound...But ihave to say ATT is not helping me with the phone service and billing at all...Alex in Brooklyn NYC....
