Summary: Good phone - poor sync software
Review: I've been searching for the "perfect" GSM phone for about a year. I tried the Sony/Ericsson t68i for about a month and then returned it because of its poor signal strength and high rate of dropped calls. Then I got the Samsung V205 which has excellent call quality but can't sync with Outlook.

I was hoping that the Nokia 3650 would be the best of both worlds the signal of the Samsung with the features of the t68i.... but alas it too is lacking.

The GOOD:

- Excellent call quality - as good or better than the Samsung
- Strong feature set - lots of goodies including Bluetooth
- Good color screen, but not as bright as the Samsung which is fantastic
- Fair polyphonic ring tones, but not as vibrant or loud as the Samsung
- Infrared works
- Bluetooth works

The NOT GOOD:

- Really stupid keypad - alpha print is too small too see if you are over forty years old and the keys are too small to push comfortably and the blue backlight just makes them less readable
- Navigation "rocker button" not accurate - I move the cursor about 30% of the times that I intended to click the center (the t68i joystick is much better)
- And last but certainly not least, the WORST feature of the phone... IT'S SYNC APPLICATION FOR OUTLOOK IS JUNK. You can only download ALL your Outlook contacts - not just some that you have marked with a particular category. Furthermore, the phone has a "group" feature to assign contacts to groupings - but the sync application doesn't map "category" to "group"! I have about 500 contacts in Outlook and I only want about fifty of them in my phone - but it's all or nothing with the "Nokia PC Suite." In general the sync app is poorly thought-out and is clearly a quick hack thrown together so they could claim hot sync with Outlook. The t68i sync app is much better. Too bad the t68i can't operate as a basic voice phone if it could IT would be the perfect phone.

If Nokia fixes the syncing deficiencies (or some enterprising software firm does) I might raise the rating to five stars despite the keypad. The Nokia 3650 is within reach of a "nearly perfect" rating - but isn't quite there... yet.

Summary: May feel "cheap" - but is not "cheap"
Review: Although I did not necessarily agree with the reviewers who contend the phone feels ligtweight and therefore cheap, I will say I have dropped it a couple of times and it holds together well. No dents, cracks or anything. Well made.

Fun to take photos and immediately email them from the phone to friends. Hope my cell bill does not go through the ceiling! Good phone> I am learning the rest of its Symbian OS features

Summary: Impressions after 3 days w/ Help for Bluetoothers
Review: After 3 days and a good bit of online research, here are my experiences: The 3650 has a good feel, very lightweight, nice design, clean interface and fairly easy to navigate. I agree with others that it has a cheap/non-durable feel v. other Nokia products I've used or held. I can't imagine it would survive a hard drop on concrete. I bought the phone primarily because of the bluetooth connectivity & PC sync capability (I'm an avid outlook user). The camera is a bonus and I honestly don't expect much from it given the resolution.

A few things to note: Nokia's PC Suite software is not terribly robust. It provide poor, non descriptive error messages and sometimes lets prompt boxes slip behind other open applications. I also understand from a posting on Expansys.com (great site for wireless purchase & review of wireless products) that the PC Suite software uses Bluetooth software not compatible with most USB Bluetooth dongles. I'm giving it a shot anyway.

3 days w/ limited use, isn't enough time to review a product. After struggling mightly to get the bluetooth connection to work for data syncing (IR operates at about 1/7th of the speed, so Bluetooth is prefered for me)...Will update as I use the phone more...One snag I hit is that the Outlook sync prompts would not let me select my calendar & contacts folders. After calling my IT department and Nokia (their tech support is fairly basic and does not offer help with Outlook) I found a .PST file had been moved. I removed the pointer in the folder tree for the PST file & after that I could "see" the calendar & contacts folders in the PC suite software.

Hope this helps!

Summary: Pathbreaking cellphone
Review: The circular keypad attracted me. The phone (or is it a computer!) is easy to use. It is lightweight. I have a silver express-on cover and it looks great. The software is awesome. It is open-source, so I hope that great new software is in the pipeline. The 3650 is packed with features. Also, the screen resolution is great. The call clarity leaves something to be desired. The calls sound better on the handsfree that is supplied with the 3650. A few complaints. The after-sales service in Bangalore, India is atrocious. There is still no accessory available. The Nokia Service Centres are clueless about the software. They have no protective plastic bits for the lens, and so on. Local adaptation of the manual is desired. I am happy that this is my first mobile!!

Summary: Good phone for Mac Users
Review: With Apple's latest update to iSynch, the Nokia 3650 makes a good adjunct to the mac. One quibble. The phone does not yet sych with iCal. A minor almost quible... it would be nice if it were possible to browse the phone's memory and to place files on the phone without using the BlueTooth file interface. Instead, they should let you use the standard file browser. Apple also updated QuickTime 6.3 to include support for the audio and video files created by most multi-media cell phones. The PC version should also benefit from QuickTime's update.

Summary: Great potential - poor delivery
Review: I like the OS for the phone and the ability to get new applications in Symbian or Java. But it really needs a better keypad. Sending messages or writing emails is a pain.

Blue tooth is a great concept and pretty good when it works. But it doesn't seem to work more then 50% of the time with the Belkin Bluetooth adapter I got for my computer. Have to always trick it into connecting. Fairly good once connected.

PC software that came with the phone is not great. Adding contact is not as simple as it could be. And import seems to be limited to outlook.

Turns out that the good ring tones have too quiet. Basic beeps are louder, but annoying indoors. Phone is hard to use outdoors and in windy or noisy conditions due to low sounds output.

I like the display and the camera feature. Very handy for the times where you want t0 share a scene. But with no protection for the camera lens you have to stop and clean it before each shot and it seems to be getting scratched. If there was a case or holder for the phone it might help, but none have been released yet. And the phone is not a standard size.

Battery doesn't last anywhere near as long as indicated. Display must really suck the power, as any use of the phone will count against the talk time, even just letting a friend play a game on it. And the battery indicator is not linear. Atleast it charges fairly quickly.

Be warned that everything seems to cost: ring tones about $..., applications $..., services are often for an undisclose price to be charged to your account. Be wary.

Summary: it now works with a MAC
Review: Now the 3650 works with the Macs Isync program for transfering your contacts. It will also work with the Macs bluetooth. I got the phone and love it. I go online through the phone on my Mac G4 Powerbook with a Dlink USB Bluetooth adaptor. Its takes some work with your providers tech support to tweek the settings but it works great after that. If your having problemes with your Mac make sure you have the new versions of Bluetooth and Isync downloaded. Have fun.

Summary: Ringer problems
Review: I was very happy with this phone for about a week until I took the phone out and noticed that I'd missed about 10 calls. It seems several of the Nokia 3650s have a lovely little problem with the ringer. It starts out fine, but as time goes on, it gets quieter and quieter. Eventually, even with the ringer set to full volume, you can barely hear the ringer at all (though when you test the ringer under profiles it sounds just fine). The only solution is to have it set to vibrate at the same time and then the ringer volume is fixed.
At the moment I'm being sent a replacement phone, if this one does not have that problem I'd give the phone 5 stars. But to have a phone that does everything except work as phone is ridiculous.

Discovered the problem: Firmware version 2.54 is very buggy. The most recent (3.12) should be fine. You can check what version you have by pressing *#0000# in standby mode.

Summary: supported by iSync
Review: Just a note for mac users, as of yesterday, I believe Apple's iSync 1.1 now supports this phone for bluetooth connectivity and data transfers. FYI.
