Summary: SIM LOCKED even when purchased whithout service plan
Review: I bought this phone without service plan (249.99 $). I come every year to Hawaii to see my parents but i live in Tahiti French Polynesia. When i came back to Tahiti, my local sim card could not be read. So now, i have a phone that works only with T-mobile who is not represented here. I can not have my phone unlocked : amazon said it is the problem of T-mobile, T-mobile said i have to answer directly Sony ericson who cannot help me... I am extremely disapointed.

Review: I am using this phone for 2 months. The first month it worked fine, then the problems came.It goes off automatically, some times the calls drop[i know it depends on the carrier. The most annoying of all ,the phone hangs up [like a PC].The only thing i admire bout this phone are the really cool features and the stunning looks.but whats the use if the phone goes dead .I think Sony Ericsson's got to do something about this. Thanks guys i hope this review is useful to you.

Summary: Great all-around
Review: I've had mine for almost two months now and I'm happy with all aspects of this wonderful powerful phone. Will definitely buy another S-E phone again in the future. I still don't like T-Mobile's coverage and especially service support, but this phone is a star. Some may find teh buttons a bit too small, but they are well-spaced so fine for my large hands. Voice clarity is superb for me, and the quality/durability is great.

Review: I get a new phone every year. This is the best one yet. The Bluetooth handsfree is a MUST HAVE.

Summary: One of the best from Tmobile!!
Review: This phone is certainly one of the best phones offered by Tmobile. Everything from its capabilities to its rf quality is very top notch. One great advantage this phone has over other Bluetooth enabled phones offered by Tmobile is the size as well as more user friendly menus.

Pros:
Relatively small and light
Great menu setup
Fast moving menus
Bluetooth sync
Loud ear piece

Cons:
Very high maintanence (smudges easily)
No speakerphone

Some of the complaints about this phone have been on the issue of the RF being low. This was a major problem on early models which were made a while back and have recently been fixed by a new firmware. The phone actually shows RF fluctations more than other phones, resulting in people thinking it has bad RF.

Overall this is a great purchase and is great phone. If someone were to be looking for more than JUST a phone, please look into the Nokia 3650, which is based on symbian OS and can have programs built for series60 be used on it.

Summary: Great Phone
Review: I really am enjoying this phone.

The good: Very small size, long talk time, long standby time, color screen that is easy to see, great reception (using t-moblie in downtown Seattle), bluetooth wireless (unexpectedly useful), sexy design, loud and diverse ringers, and useful software features.

The bad: The camera has horrible resolution and is practically useless, software requires a lot of unnecessary button clicks to operate.

Summary: Looks cook, but somewhat couterintuitive usability...
Review: My review focuses on the ease of use of this phone's features. I'll begin with the negatives aspects first:

CONS
- Unable to display your own phone number or customized message on the main screen at all times.
- Pressing either side scroll buttons displays the phone's status (date, profile, model, and own mobile #). These buttons would serve a better purpose if, for instance, they could change the ring volume. Instead you have to go through 3 or 4 menu steps just to change the volume.
- Outdated firmware causes the phone to crash or lock up sometimes. Don't be surprised if you have to slide the back open and pop out the battery to do a hard reboot. Doesn't happen very often, but it does happen, and this is unacceptable when most phones NEVER crash.
- Increasing ringtones - there is an option to disable this, but it doesn't function. It will always start off quiet for the first two seconds, then get louder.
- Every time you get a voicemail, you also get a text message in your inbox. The text message basically says, "you have 1 new voicemail, dial 123 to retrieve". You can select the "123" in the message and choose to listen to your voicemail. However, when you do this, the text message doesn't get automatically deleted. You have to manually go to your inbox and delete the messages you don't want to keep. Now imagine getting 10 or 20 voicemails... that's 10 or 20 text messages cluttering up your inbox.
- Call log entries are displayed on 1 line. First the name is shown, then after three seconds, the phone number replaces the name, then after another two seconds the time (if today) or date (if past date) replaces the time/date. So it basically takes about 5 seconds to see all the info for one missed/incoming/outgoing call. There's no way to show this info faster by scrolling through it manually, and no way to see all the info at once by selecting the call entry.
- If you want to record a quick voice memo for yourself, and you select the Voice Notes to record it, it gets stored in a very unconventional manner. To play back the memo, you have to now go to the Messaging->Picture->Unsent menu path. A better way to store a voice memo is to go to Pictures & Sounds->Record Sound. Then the memo will be placed under My Sounds. For some reason, the sound quality is also better using the latter method.
- You are allowed to customize only one direction of the joystick, which is left. Pressing up on the joystick takes you to the last entry of your phonebook. Pressing down takes you to the first entry of your phonebook. Pressing right takes you to the icon selection screen where you see 4 rows of 3 icons representing (from upper left to lower right): Voice Notes, t-zones, My Shortcuts, Camera, Phonebook, Entertainment, Pictures & Sounds, Messaging, Calls, Connectivity, Organizer, Settings.

PROS
- Bluetooth is a cinch to set up. Got connected to my PowerBook and Jabra headset in less than 10 minutes. Easy to transfer files to/from the phone.
- RF reception is not as bad as many people make it out to be. If another tmobile user was standing next to me using a different phone, and they were getting clear connections, so was I. If they were getting bad connections, so was I. We tested this in various locations, even in fringe areas where we got 1 or zero bars on the signal meter. Signal strength was more attributeable to the network and not so much the phone.
- Easy to snap a picture. Press a button on the left side to go into camera mode, then press the same button or the joystick or the Capture menu selection to take the picture. After, you're given the option to discard it or send it to someone. Or if you just want to save it for viewing later, press the exit button and it will ask if you want to save it.
- Easy to send your contact info to someone.

In conclusion, if you already have a mobile phone and service, I would wait a few weeks and get the T630 when it comes out. And if you have to get a new phone today, I would seriously shop around first before buying the T610. There is much room for improvement in the T610's usability to let you do things faster, and hopefully they'll fix some of the more serious problems like firmware so it doesn't crash. There is a reason why amazon is paying you to take this phone off their hands. Because they can't give enough of them away.

Summary: Don't buy this phone, wait for the T630!
Review: Goto Google and search for T630, it looks AMAZING compared to this phone! It's all "I-Mac"'ed out! The design is incredible!

I'll touch on the major improvements:

-65k color TFT Active Matrix LCD screen, this is much an improvement over the 65k color Passive Matrix LCD screen. The T610's screen IS NOT visible during the day, so this improvement alone is worth waiting for.

-Updated FIRMWARE. I just bought my T610 over 03 Xmas season and it's still running OLD firmware. The old firmware has problems with files being stored on the phone. For example, a jpg image of 9kb will take up about 45kb on the phone, in the T630, this is fixed. Search HowardForums on Google for more firmware improvements.

-FASTER GAMES! The T610 runs Java/Mophun games benchmarked at ~400. The T630 benchmarks clear 650+ consistently! This means faster menu response and, more importantly ;), faster games!

-ahhh, finally, a button for IM!

-larger numeric buttons, as you can see from pics of the T630, much easier to dial for us with big fat fingers.

-much improved RF signal. One of the T610's weaknesses has been it's RF signal but this has been improved in the T630!

-improved bluetooth connectivity! No more intermittent crackling sounds thru your headset!

It'll be out in about 3-4wks, so if you can wait, I would advise that you do. If you can't, the T610 is still a great phone!
