Rating: Summary: DON'T BUY A PHONE FROM SPRINT Review: As good as this PDA phone could be, it is not worth having to deal with the idiots at Sprint! After two weeks of trying to get Sprint to provide a working G1000, they have completely failed. And this is on the top-of-the-line phone they sell! The first issue was that the phone is not carried in the walk-in stores, nor are any accessories. But the clerks are happy to make a bunch of false claims about what the phone would do before telling you that. Next was getting the first phone which would reset itself every 1-15 minutes. Despite this obvious fault that prevented Sprint from provisioning the thing, it took multiple calls to replace it. Then the replacement, remember their most expensive phone, also showed up with a fault that prevents connection to the Internet! Fed up after hours on multiple calls to Tech Support with empty promises to "reprovision the phone over-night" I called Customer Service for a final time. Despite clearly stating I wanted a Senior Supervisor to handle return and cancellation of all my accounts, the run-around continued. After clearly stating what was needed and that under no circumstances to transfer me to Tech Services again, they transferred me right back to the idiots who had just said they couldn't figure out the problem! I'm left looking for the number for the local Federal Attorney's office to file a criminal fraud complaint. Then working through my credit card company to retract payment. Completely incompetent can only begin to describe Sprint!
Rating: Summary: Great phone, not too many quirks Review: I have had my G1000 for a couple of months now and I love it. Ever since getting my first Palm 3, I wished a device like this existed. I was really in the market for an all in one, I really liked the Handspring Treo 600. It had the nicenst look, but the clincher for the G1000 was the web browser. The IE Browser can handle large web pages. The Palm browser dies after a certain size. I have a new business that needs to be run mobil. With the G1000, I can place a call, send a snapshot of an item I need to sell, answer emails on the fly or research something on the web. Not everything is perfect though. The phone MUST be charged everyday. Put it on the cradle whenever you can and invest in travel and car chargers. The dial by name is interesting, however it can be frustrating when driving that it will not recognize a name, or if you finally do get it to, it will confuse yes for no. The external keyboard is great for alpha characters, but clumsy for digits. It would be nice if the num lock was automatically set for numeric fields, but it does not. The stylus letter recognizer is a bit clumsy if you were trained in Palm Grafitti. Also, make sure you read the manual. I have had stupid mistakes because a switch has been hit or a configuration item set wrong and spent hours with Sprint tech support trying to figure it out when it was only a 2 second fix. All in all, it is a superb phone, although large in size, its smaller than having both a phone and PDA, and best of all, any tech weenie you know will bow before you!
Rating: Summary: Glitz on the outside Piece of crap on the inside Review: I just replaced my second one of these. This second one never worked correctly but I didnt have time to take it in. It wasnt refurbished either. First off the OS needs to be upgraded but Hitachi is to cheap to authorize it. Let me tell you also that sprint is the worst cell company I've ever dealt with. (...) I wish I had time to go over all the problems with this phone. The only good thing about this thing if your interested is that everyone thinks your a star with this thing screw that I want something that last more than 2 months. Not to mention the camera sucks also
Rating: Summary: this phone is ok but sprint really sucks Review: i love the hitachi g1000 but it still has problems like every other phone, it is really difficult to get new ringers because the plan that i am on doesnt support it and it lasts only a day but it still is a kickass phone i wouldnt get the trio and i would go with this phone i had to call sprint tech support a bunch of times first it was about the internet and then i called about the msn messenger thing and that was a pain in the ass they kept on sending me to retards that didnt know anything and the pethedic part about it is that is sprints best phone and when you talk on it you look really dumb
Rating: Summary: The best phone out there Review: I purchased this phone for the following reasons: 1) PDA contacts list syncs automatically with my laptop and Outlook 2) Downloadable email without my intervention 3) Web access - email or check something quick on the web 4) Expansion slot 5) Hands free speaker phone and voice recognition dialing (Using the center button located between the green and red phone buttons) 6) Keyboard (You'll be amazed at how quickly you can type with your thumbs!) 7) Clear screen resolution 8) Camera - it's ok - but not the reason I purchased it. If your looking for many of the qualities I've noted above, this is by far the best phone on the market. Can you hear me know Verizon?
Rating: Summary: Best PDA Phone period Review: I read a review a year or so ago on Zdnet, where the author was explaining the reason PDA/Cell phones haven't taken off is because they are too fragile. You can typically go swimming with a normal cell phone, and they are fine. I pulled this out in the rain the other day for about 10 seconds, and the whole phone quit working (I did put it in the oven at 170 degrees for 1.5 hours, and it did dry out, but it's not the same). Anyway, other than that, I'm happy with the phone. It's a little bulky again for a cell phone, but it's a PDA too, so that' the tradeoff for convenience. It's about the size of one of those old Palm VII's (the wireless internet one). It gets really good reception, and the calls are more clear than my previous phone, so I can't complain. The tiny keyboard is actually fairly useful. I figured with my fat fingers that I would never use it, but not so. One thing I didn't see advertized was the ability to receive free text messages through Sprint. I do with someone would come up with a hack so I could use the GPS for something other than 911 calls. Apparently there is a "feature" that Sprint allows "content" providers to know where you are, so they can push content to you with this GPS. If you don't like the Big Brother stuff, you can turn that off. However, if they know where I am, there has to be a way to hack that for something *I* can use... Well, that's it, I'm pretty happy with it, I just with it had been made a little more rugged, but that's why Sprint offers the $5/month replacement insurance!

Rating: Summary: Hitachi G-1000 Review: I read most of the reviews for this product and some do not do any justice. I am the proud owner of a Hitachi G1000 which I purchased in August, 2003. 1. I use the included Word, Excel programs on a daily basis, to avoid freezing, I purchased an SD memory card and runs with no problems. (I store music, photos, maps, Excel, Word pdf files, dictionary, accounting sofware, you name it.) 2. I find the phone ringer and earpiece volume adecuate. (some people don't) 3. Phone reception? I can say it's great. (Florida) 4. Works great with Pharos GPS antenna, Ostia sofware with maps and it works wonders with the Mapopolis GPS sofware. 5. The best part, if you are an active trader you can use MidCast applications to watch realtime prices. Selling and buying stocks on the internet has been one of my favorites using this baby. 6. It took me a while to learn how to use the exterior keypad and once you master this feature you are quickly writing e-mails and sending them with attachments. Great tool(toy) for any adult. 7. Complaints? Should had come with 64 MB RAM instead of 32.
Rating: Summary: review Review: I've had this pda phone for about a month and i'm glad to finally put all of my scattered contact information gradually into this device. However, I have some major problems with it: 1- THE PHONE'S RINGER IS EXTREMELY INAUDIBLE!!! even though I've turned everything up to the max and also have picked the highest pitched ringer tone!!! so if you must put it in your pocket oR briefcase, be VERY prepared to miss every call you get!!!! 2- the external keyboard is totally a useless part of the device although many people may like it, i believe the internal keyboard screen is most convenient with the stylus. the latest modern pdas have all but mostly eliminated this bulky and useless part. 3- for the price of the device, the manufacturer sould have put the 260 page manual on an ineractive cd with sound like a show instruction. it takes forever to read it!!!! 4- MOST importantly, this thing is a power hogger!! make sure you take your adapter with you everywhere you go, since with a full overnite charge, you'll be running out of power around 3:00-4:00 pm the following day!!! this only adds to the bulkyness of this device!!! 5- the software on the CD contains Outlook 2000, the outdated version of currently available 2002,,, the device is only been on the market for a month!!! 6- the screen is bright in the dark but almost invisible in the daylight outdoors! and since you have to use that screen for dialing out or for phone functions, you're in trouble! also, the phone screen dialing buttons are slow acting,i mean don't expect the push-button speed and accuracy from it!! 7- the phone's reception is weaker than my old motorola startac! at least that one beeped when i missed a call (and audibly too!!) 8- THE EARPICE HAS LOW VOLUME, even at the highest setting! so if you are at a restaurant and you're makin a call you'll be out of luck hearing the other party...unless you set the phone on speakerphone and turn the volume down. other than that it is a great pda / phone!
Rating: Summary: So far...NOT so good... Review: I've had this thing for 3 days so far, & spent most of today at the SPRINT PCS service center trying to get this monster working properly! I wish I would've read some of these reviews first! After going through 3 Handspring Treo 600's in 9 months,(No joke! 2 broken ear speakers & 1 bad OS) I thought that this would be a Godsend. After spending the better part of today at the service center, I was told that they would have to send me another phone! I immediately asked if it would be a reconditioned phone, & was told "YES"...but it will still have a SIX month warrantee. My 3 day old phone came with a ONE YEAR WARRANTEE! I said absolutely not!
After much back & forth, I got them to agree to provide with a brand new unit of any manufacturer & price of MY choice when the new line of phones came out this fall. ...& yes, I got it in writting! Dealing with them, or ANY carrier for that matter is at very best difficult. If you can keep your cool, & keep "pressing in", you'll eventually come across someone who has the ability to say "YES", when all others have said no. Keep in mind that you don't need to take "NO" from anyone who can't tell you "YES". Good luck! (& wish me luck too! LOL!)
