Summary: Bulky, but with many features
Review: *NOTE: This review is from itreviews.co.uk*
Cast your mind back a year or two and you may recall that there was a time when telephones were used to make telephone calls. These days we expect far, far more from a phone than the mere ability to carry a conversation, and that's particularly true of the latest generation of Smart phone.

Where a PDA is an electronic organiser that can have the functions of a phone, a Smart phone is a phone that has the functions of a PDA. In principle a Smart phone is similar to a modern handset such as the Nokia 7250, with the addition of a touch sensitive screen and Internet functions such as Web browsing and mobile e-mail.

The Sony Ericsson P800 runs Symbian OS 7.0, which is the main rival to Microsoft's Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC (which itself used to be simply called Pocket PC). You'll find Symbian inside handsets from Sony Ericsson and Nokia, as well as Motorola and Siemens. Think of it as the Linux of the mobile world.

By now you'll appreciate that the P800 is a small mobile computer, and that means it is quite big by the standards of a basic handset, measuring 117mm long by 59mm wide by 27mm thick, and it weighs a hefty 158g. The plastic case is metallic blue in colour and there's a camera on back, but at first glance the P800 looks fairly conventional.

The first clue is in the active flip, which carries the keypad. When the flip is closed there is a viewable area of 208 x 144 pixels, but when the flip is open the screen is fully viewable at 208 x 320 pixels. The colour depth remains 12-bit, offering 4096 colours. There is a stylus for the touch screen clipped on the side of the phone to avoid getting it greasy and dirty, and there are three spare styluses in the box.

Inside the P800 there is 12MB of memory, and it has a Memory Stick Duo slot with a 16MB Stick included in the package. You also get an adapter so you can insert the Duo Stick in a standard Memory Stick slot. Transferring data couldn't be much easier, so long as you're part of Sony's Memory Stick fraternity.

The P800 come with two CDs of software. The first is a PC Suite to manage synchronization with Outlook and Notes, as well as modem drivers and a user guide. The second CD contains multimedia content, including an image editor, audio files, video clips, games and pictures.

Synchronisation with your PC or Mac is handled by the docking station and a USB connection, and you also get a chunky black nylon carry case, as well as a stereo headset and microphone.

Unfortunately we can't cover the key features without a load of alphabet soup, so here goes. The P800 supports tri-band GSM (900/1800/1900), GPRS and HSCSD 2.5G modes, SMS and MMS messaging, SMTP, POP3 and IMAP4 email.

The great variable with the P800 is the price, as it is dependant on the contract you sign. We've found it as cheap as 49.99, although Sony Ericsson tells us you shouldn't get it for less that 149.99.

Verdict: This is a bulky phone that is too large for most pockets, but the feature list more than makes up for the size and weight. The single most important point is that the P800 works correctly, unlike the rival Orange SPV that has just been updated to fix a load of bugs. If you need your office in your pocket at all times, this could well be the phone for you.

Summary: Thanks for the tip
Review: ...found the link to http://muwap.com here on amazon. Also found that they give you 10% off everything when you type in "amazon" as the coupon code. They have tons of tones for the SE phones, and with the coupon it's only $9/year. Cheaper than mMode, and much better selection. Thanks, whomever posted this before!

Summary: Finally! A phone/PDA that does it all...
Review: First the not perfect: There is a steep learning, curve ... but with definite rewards for the faithful. The phone is a tad bulky too.

Then the myriad SmartPhone features: Camera (Not great, but usable), MP3 player, which is excellent. Speaker phone, Outlook sync (even tasks & notes) is superb. Jotter works VERY well (similar to Grafitti v2). Voice memos, solid internet & email/messaging. View MS/Office word files. Runs the Symbian 7.1 OS with the UIQ user interface (similar to Nokia's Series 60) with lots of 3rd party software available & more coming monthly.

Bottom Line: The PDA features are well implemented, I'm not missing my Palm at all! In fact, just sold it! The phone features are great too. This is not a PDA with poor phone support. This is an excellent GSM phone and my AT&T service has been solid so far (30 days).

Summary: actually P800 is not too bad
Review: I have been using this phone for almost a year and if ind it and excellent gadget.

SE P800 is, however, a challenge sometimes.
GUI could be improved to give bigger buttons when using touchscreen with fingers. Power saving mode could be improved.

I used it all over US, Germany and Russia. Works well. US mobile companies are way behind on SE pda phone product line. i don't know why. perhaps there's not a high enough demand in their estimations.

Sony are not making them any longer. It is time to upgrade to P910i.

Summary: P800 has everything you need.
Review: I have this phone using the T-mobile service. The coverage is very good. I never had a dropped call. There are WAY too much features on this phone than all the NEWER pda phones out there. I upgraded my memory stick DUO from 16 mb to 128 mb. I can listen to over 3 hours of mp3 music while browsing the web site with this thing with the built in speakerphone. One of the favorite things about this phone is that it has voice command feature. You can store all your friend's names and just say his/her name and it connects you. Also you can take a picture of your friend with the comminicam and use it in the contacts to see who is calling you. You can also program a "magic word". after saying the magic word, you say your friend's name and it connects you. Hands free. This thing also has blue tooth, so you can use wireless earphones. The touch screen feature is cool. open it up, use the provided probe to open files and write letters. Use the voice memo to create your own ring tones. My next phone would be a p900.

Review: i like this cell phone very much and i want to buy it now

Summary: one gadget less in your pocket
Review: I was an intensive palm user (Vx), and I never thought about upgrading until a phone+pda which really worked was done. I left my old Vx mate at home when they gave me a p800 at work.

Pros:
-it really does the job; even for a palm maniac the graffiti is a good aplication and the screen is smaller but it's all right
-if you have 1500 contacts with home, cell, work phone as I have, its ability to dial from any contact it is a huge advantage and time-saving feature! the same for knowing who's calling

Cons:
-battery
-coverage: it works definitlely worse than a high range cell phone, sometimes loses signal...
-in general, phone features

My opinion: the device is a much worse phone than I expected and a much better pda than I expected. If you are a user looking for multimedia, entertaiment features in a phone, the pros are not worth the cons: you have a bad phone that still doesn't meet the highest standards for games, music that you are expecting... If you want to take one device out of your jacket and use your new 2-in-1 it as a organicing advanced tool, it really gets the job done, even tought as a phone is not great. That's my case, so I will keep my p800 for a long time.
