Summary: Best phone I ever had
Review: Now I can finally sync my contacts, Inbox, Calendar seamlessly between my desktops, laptop, phone and PDA!! Try doing that with a Symbian OS phone. The phone has lost of cool features and one that I love the most is the automatic profile which automatically puts your phone in vibrator mode based on meetings in your calendar. Now that is what I call a 'Smart' phone. Not just a phone which can also play MP3s. Ofcourse the MPx200 can do that as well. I hope reviewers wont continue to blame the MPx200 for their problems with customer service. This review is about the phone. So dont hate the player!

Summary: Cant stress it enough - Great Phone/Lousy ATT Service
Review: I have been waiting for an integrated solution to my PDA and phone and jumped at this phone. I adore the phone - agree with all the raves regarding ease of use regarding syncing with PC, great speakerphone, great battery life et al, nice screen layout, ease of use - yadda yadda yadda. It is a great phone.

However, I live in the Redmond, WA area - corporate HQ for ATTWS and I cannot get ANY service in some busy metro areas around Redmond and the greater Seattle area. The service is horrible. I would have to say 90% of my calls are dropped. I am probably returning the phone for this reason only.

A basic cell phone need is to call for help when you are stuck! Because this phone is ONLY SINGLE BAND - (mine is not dual nor tri band as has been mentioned) if you cannot get the 1900 Mhz GSM - then you are doomed to find a pay phone! ATT GSM network is just not ready for prime time. I would not recommend using this service.

Summary: WOW. The most extensible GSM/GPRS Smartphone on the market.
Review: Besides it's obvious portability, I think most of the reviews miss a couple key points:
1) OUTLOOK
If you use Outlook, and you're in the market for a good quality Smartphone that runs on AT&T's network, there's ZERO reason to consider anything other than this phone. This thing is designed to work with Outlook Contacts, Email, and Calendar. It even works with Exchange for corporate mail. God bless it!

2) INSTALLABLE SOFTWARE
There's so much software to install on this - and while the games are beautiful and beat the heck out of those lame Intellivision game ports, and dumb Bowling games, the coolest thing about the phone are the business apps. Who'd have thought I could do my EXPENSES on my phone so easily?

3) NO CAMERA
This is a major plus for my organization. Some people think it's a "minus" but the fact of the matter is that my organization is EXTREMELY sensitive about camera phones. The fact that there's no lame consumer camera phone on the device makes it a truly corporate friendly device. (Besides - if I'm going to take a photo, I'm going to use my super-portable Minolta Dimage Xi which has 3.3 megapixel resolution... not some lame low quality 640x480 camera)

Summary: I LOVE this phone!!! - No more need for my Dell Axim PDA
Review: I've been using the MPx200 since early November, and I can honestly say that despite a few quirks inherent with the Windows Mobile Smartphone OS, it has lightened my load significantly by not having to bring my bulky PDA with my everywhere I go. I have my calendar, my contacts, my games, my MP3 music (on my 512MB SD card), text messages, and best of all, a *real* web browser (Internet Explorer!!) all in my pocket. I paid a lot more for this phone than it is currently offered for after rebates, but its been worth every penny. Get it - you will LOVE this phone!!!

Summary: Signal? What signal?
Review: Love the phone -- integration with Outlook Express worked like a charm.

However, I can barely get a signal anywhere I've tried. I get no signal at all either at work or at home. AT&T Wireless clearly lacks a network in this area.

I returned the phone and went back to my Sprint PCS phone, which gets full strength signals everywhere I've tried it.

Summary: Finally - Everything I need in one hand
Review: Owned: 3 weeks
Where: San Diego, CA (roaming in UK)

Contrary to AT&T's marketing blurb, this IS an international phone. It doesn't support 900MHz but I successfully used in all over the UK on 1800MHz. Coverage in San Diego is faultless so far.

Other reviews have covered all the great features and the seemless integation into Windows XP. Dragging and dropping video clips of my little boy was a breeze. Internet access isn't lightning quick but very usable - especially for those sites that cater to phone browsers. The full HTML support is useful in a pinch: the phone acts as a little window that can be scrolled around the full browser page.

AT&T customer service is less than satisfactory - I suggest you keep calling until you get someone who knows what they're doing. The store staff are even less likely to be knowledgeable about a sophisticated phone like this. I gave 5 stars to the phone, not to AT&T but then again my experience of all the wireless companies is depressingly similar. I'll put up with it in order to have the best phone available.

Most importantly, this device is the closest yet to the 'all-in-one' organizer that I've been looking for for years. Not as powerful as the full PPC but it fits in my pocket and can be used with one hand. Even MS Messenger works like a dream....

Summary: Great phone, but AT&T is a 3rd world service carrier.....
Review: AT&T Wireless must have the worst customer service. Porting is closing on two weeks and counting. AT&T representatives are rude and incompetent. AT&T representatives either tell me to call the porting idiots whose hold time unsuccessfully exceeded 3 hours or they put me on hold and hang up or promise to call back and never do.

I am porting two phones. Both worked when I got them in the mail. Now one is dead and the other is making outbound calls only. Placing a porting order on the web was the easiest thing in the world. After that, you don't hear a thing until the phones show up at your door steps. I had paper work from other customer and the ported #'s were not assigned to the proper device. I ordered a third line from AT&T and the number they assigned me was not in my area code. In addition, they included no instructions on how and when porting will take place. Of course, they initially advertised as 3-5 hours.

At this point I am wondering which is worse AT&T or Sprint.

Summary: A great phone, good software, and terrible service
Review: It's hard to review this phone, because there are three separate areas: the phone, the operating system, and AT&T's service. Here's my review of all three:

1) The phone - Quite simply, this phone is the best I've ever used. Having said that, you may wonder about the rating; you'll see in a moment. The phone itself is an amazing product. It has a very solid, professional feel. The clamshell is the best I've seen, not at all cheap or flimsy. The fit and finish are simply first class. The screen is bright and the buttons are laid out intelligently and have a good feel.

Is the phone perfect? No. The plug that covers the power/data port is not attached, so most people will simply take it off and never use it. The dial on the side can be pressed for certain functions, but it is very difficult to press without also turning, which changes the volume. The phone doesn't have Bluetooth, which would be helpful for synchronizing with a PC. Despite these failings, however, the phone is great. Four stars.

2) The software - The phone runs Pocket PC 2002 Smartphone edition, even though the 2003 version is available. I liked the software and most of the navigation was simple enough. Being able to sync with Outlook was very helpful. The biggest drawback for me was that the Smartphone software does not sync Notes from Outlook; I use Notes to track such things as my frequent flyer and hotel rewards numbers. The Smartphone will only sync Calendar and Email items. Also, for developers, the 2002 edition does not support the .NET Compact Framework, but the 2003 edition does. AT&T has not announced whether or not they will offer an upgrade. Three stars.

3) AT&T coverage - I don't have anything bad to say about AT&T customer service, as they were very nice throughout. However, AT&T's GSM coverage is simply abysmal here in Louisville. I live within a stone's throw of one of Louisville's busiest streets, but I could not get a signal in my home. If I went out to the street, I had a great signal, but back in the house, nothing. I don't know if the house is made of lead or if the signal just degrades that quickly, but the signal simply wasn't there. Zero stars.

If you can get AT&T GSM coverage, I highly recommend this phone. It's not perfect but it's very, very good. I'm just disappointed that I can't use. I'm back on Verizon and while the coverage is excellent, their current Smartphone is cheap, flimsy, and twice the price (or more) of the MPx200.

Summary: Amazon customer service is terrible
Review: I don't know how about the phone (since I still can't receive it), but Amazon service is awful. My order is stuck on Credit review. Amazon doesn't say what exactly is wrong, it just says that "information appears to be entered incorrectly". There is no way to cancel my order - Amazon didn't provide an interface! I wrote them several emails two days ago - there is still no response. It is pretty frustrating when you can't call in. If you want to keep youself from trouble, pay a little more but don't use Amazon for cell phones shopping...

Summary: Love it!!!
Review: OK- unlike most reviewers I will review the PHONE rather than spend the whole review complaining about AT&T (which *does* stink for GSM service).

I've been a PocketPC user for over a year, and this OS is almost identical. Very intuitive and easy to use. I previously only owned Nokia phones and though I'd need time to get adjusted- not so! Very easy to use an loaded with cool features.

The unit comes with two headsets (stereo and mono) for listening to MP3's, which are played via Windows Media Player on the phone. Sound quality is great. The PDA functions are great for viewing, but combersome for editing... but chances are you use your PC/Outlook for all the editing and creating of email/tasks/etc... and the phone is there for a reminder.

One VERY cool feature is the phone can be set to automatically switch profiles during appointments (ie meetings created in outlook). So you can set your ringtone, and then have it switch to vibrate only during meetings. Very useful to me.

Also a neat feature is the ability to use ANY .wav or MIDI file for a ringtone. I recorded a 5 second WAV of my favorite guitar riff, copied it to the phone via ActiveSync (included and really easy to use), and used it as my ring tone.

The speakerphone works great--- callers say I sound clear as a bell.

The screen resolution/color are absolutely incredible.

The response time is FAST under almost all situations. I briefly used a Sony/Ericsson T68i and it was so painfully slow that I got rid of it almost immediately. This phone has none of the same.

All in all-- a fantastic phone.
