Summary: Excellent product!
Review: After reading some of the reviews, I was a bit concerned, but I don't notice any significant reduction of screen clarity. I don't have to worry about damaging my screen anymore, even when using my finger. The surface is also textured, which greatly improves graffiti recognition. They are also very durable and last WELL over a month. The only drawback is that putting them on is a real pain, and you can never accomplish it without getting some annoying air bubbles in the process. Overall, a wonderful product!

Summary: WriteRIGHT®: Great Product, but get a hold of your ankles
Review: After thrashing the screens on my Palm Pilot Professional and Palm IIIe, I decided things would be different with my pricey, new Palm IIIc. I’m a heavy-handed Palm user and knew it was only a matter of time before cataract-like clouds of scratches would start to obscure my beautiful, new color screen. So I held my nose and paid the thirty-odd bucks (with tax) for a 12 pack of Fellowes®’ WriteRIGHT® screen protectors. So far I’ve been very satisfied. There’s no doubt they’re ridiculously overpriced, especially for the IIIc version which, for some reason, is four bucks more than the IIIe’s. But if you want to keep a pristine screen, it’s worth it. Now I can write, tap, and drag without sweating the scratches. There is a small sensitivity sacrifice, especially when dragging; and I don’t see an appreciable reduction in screen glare or any improvement in handwriting recognition. But the bottom line is screen protection, and in that capacity these things rock!

WriteRIGHTS® are a clear sheet of thin plastic with a coat of adhesive on one side. The super-light adhesive is designed to hold the sheet firmly to the Palm’s screen, but leave no residue when it is removed. Fellows® recommends monthly replacement, but I’ve read reports of people using them for up to three months. This probably depends on how often the Palm is used. The sheets can be easily removed by using a fingernail to peal up a corner and then pulling it the rest of the way off.

Applying a WriteRIGHT® to the screen is a bit of a hassle. I wrecked the first sheet figuring out how to do it. This was partially my fault for attempting it in an open car on a windy day. It was a quick... lesson in what not to do. I learned the screen must be totally, completely, unequivocally clean! Every tiny fiber and dust-mot, not removed, will be highlighted by the bubbles they form between the sheet and the screen. And, speaking of bubbles, it takes a careful hand to apply the sheet without trapping hundreds of them underneath – this gives your screen a bizarre, deep-fried look. After lots of messing around, I did manage to get a smooth application by working on the sheet, very slowly, from one end to the other. The package includes a little cardboard “squeegee” which is very helpful when you do this.

Fingerprints are another installation hazard. It’s nearly impossible to peel a new sheet off its backing without touching the sticky side with your fingers. Try to keep this to a minimum, or better yet, use tweezers. Once you touch the adhesive side of the sheet, your unique identity will be there to stay – or at least until you install a new sheet. Follow the instructions printed on the package. They’re skimpy but accurate.

Once the WriteRIGHT® is installed, it will take a little time to get used to the change it makes in the feel of your Palm. The user experience is neither better nor worse than working without the sheet, just different. The surface is tackier than the unprotected screen, so it takes a little more work to write and drag things around. I also noticed I had to tap just a little harder to activate programs and highlight text. But once I learned to apply a little more pressure, the difference was hardly noticeable. It’s certainly a worthwhile tradeoff.

One unexpected benefit to the WriteRIGHT® was screen repair. When I put one on my old IIIe it hid most of the damage. I think the adhesive works its way down into the scratches, making them invisible. This may be a good solution for people who’ve been as hard on their Palms as I’ve been on mine, and aren’t yet ready to pony up for a new one.

Bottom Line: Expensive but worth it.

Summary: Many positives, few negatives
Review: All in all, this is a great product for users of the Palm III and Handspring Visor series.

Let me start, however, with my compliants. First, the cost seems a little high for 12 pieces of plastic. Second, you will be unable to use the "Mirror" Program for your Palm if you use one of these on the entire screen.

Now, for the good. After using my Visor Deluxe heavily for a month, I noticed a few small scratches on the writing area. I know from several Palm-using friends that over time, this greatly reduces the computer's character recognition. Second, the price isn't that bad. ... Another advantave is that this product cuts glare from the screen. I had problems in the past using my Visor when it was bright outside. These problems are now gone. Finally, I've found that the screen protectors last more than a month. I use my PDA a lot, usually over an hour a day. This usually includes quite a lot of note taking. I've had the same Writeright for almost 2 months now.

They really are worth it. Buy them, you Palm will thank you for it later.

Summary: Sure, they protect - but you can't see anything
Review: Alright - I'm afraid of scratches on my expensive Palm III, but I'm willing to brave the risk of scratches, rather than use Writerights.

I purchased a package for my Palm IIIxe, and I put it on. I figured the cloudy view was just the way the Palm was, as I put on the Writerights directly after I took my Palm out of the box. I went to the store and I compared my screen's visibility to the naked display model's screen, and I was appalled at how much easier a naked screen was to read than my "protected" one! The package says they reduce glare and increase visibility - Hah, right. I think these are an awful product, but I still have to admit that they do what they're made for - protect the screen. And a tip to those of you out there - don't buy these. If you're really worried about scratches, something to tide you over is to put invisibile scotch tape over the graffiti area. You can cover the entire screen, if you don't mind the lines. Have fun. . .

Summary: EXCELLENT PRODUCT
Review: Apparently after repeated use of PDA screens the wear and tear causes scratches. This will effect the proformance especially the hand-writing recognition programs. This is an excellent way to forstall or eleminate scratching to the work surface. It is a clear one-sided sticky (contact paper-like) surface that covers the worksurface. It is non-glare and also is somewhat textured and improves the handwriting recognition to a degree, i believe. Due to there being less "slip" to the writing surface. I had very little trouble putting on the plastic cover the first time.... just a little juggling in place... and it was on. All in all, I think this was an EXcellent investment since most warentees do not cover this part of the units. The only difficulty i encountered was that I have "mischosen" a few applications on occasion. For example I would chose one and the one next to it would open. I believe that the cover may in fact infere a bit with the sensitivity but I think that the protective factor outweighs the minor inconvenience or perhaps ocasionally opening a wrong app. This is a product I sure I wish I thought of!

Summary: disappointing
Review: Contrary to what some have written, I did not find this product to be worth the money. Yes, it cuts glare somewhat and yes, it does protect my screen from scratching. However, I find putting it in place straight and without bubbles to be almost impossible. Also, my graffiti recognition rate seems to have decreased since installing the WriteRight. I think I'll just go back to using Scotch Magic tape.

Summary: Nice but doesn't work for me
Review: Got this for my Visor Edge. Fit pretty well and easy to apply. I like the feel of the surface. It does degrade the quality of the display but I think it is worth it. HOWEVER, my Visor Edge crashed whenever I spent a lot of time writing on the screen. Nothing can revive it, I've tried soft and hard resets! Until I peeled the cover off the screen then it comes back to life! So BEWARE before you get this. It may be just down to my Edge.

Summary: Grafiti area only please
Review: I agree with most of the other reviews here. The writeright reducesvisibility of the screen and is tricky to put on correctly, but adds protection and a better writing feel.

I too have cut the covers into small strips to cover the Grafiti writing area only. Just too much screen degradation for me to keep the screen covered on my Palm IIIxe. But very useful for the Grafiti area - where most writing takes place.

All in all, I wish they made ones specifically for only the grafiti writing area. Also, these are overpriced - but you won't find them cheaper anywhere.

Summary: Good protection, at the price of vision.
Review: I am not happy with these protectors. I thought they decreased the visability considerably, and a lot more in dim light.

I did remove them, and I cut them up for covering up the Grafitti area only.

Very expensive for what they are.

Follow the recommendations of Palm, Inc. for cleaning the screen. Do it often or when you get dirt or smears on it. Wipe stylus before using it.

I would pass on these.
