Rating: Summary: Protect your investment! Review: After my "investment" in a Palm m505 (at the old prices!), I wanted to do something to protect my precious Palm -- and these are perfect! Easy to apply, they don't prevent me from working with my Palm while they protect it. I couldn't ask for more!
Rating: Summary: Worst protector of all Review: Brighthand did a comparison on screen protectors and this product came in dead last.
Rating: Summary: A waste of money Review: Counter to what it claims, this covering does not reduce glare and make the screen look better. In fact, it looks rather opaque and the clarity of the original screen is significantly compromised. This is apparent if you are looking at a photo album, for example. Personally I don't think extended use of the PDA can cause scratches on the screen. It is the objects in your pocket that sometimes do the harm. So you are all set getting a nice carrying case. You can "protect" the screen but then do you want to look at your schedules every day through a waxed sheet?
Rating: Summary: They get clearer with time, and you get used to them. Review: I actually use the ones fitted for my Palm IIIc, a color unit. Same material. A bit tricky to put on, but a little care goes a long way toward a perfect fit. There were a few very small bubbles and lines in the sheet at first, but after a few days they completely disappeared on their own (osmosis?). I found the protector to become almost invisible after a few days, other than a slight texture that didn't reduce visibility much. This is a continuously backlit Palm, so that may have made the difference. I got used to the slight drag with the stylus, and it appears I will get much more than the one month use out of each. After almost a month, I cannot see any wear, and I use it a LOT. That makes them cheaper than at first may be obvious. I prefer the slight adhesive type to those that fit under the edges of the case, because no dust can get under the protector and it can't move around. So what if you have to carefully use a bit of cleaner to remove leftover (post-it-note type) adhesive. It's worth the effort. I haven't tried other types and probably won't, so I can't do a comparison. These do what they were designed to do. I do think that about [very little] each would be a much fairer price, though - but they last so long I guess it doesn't really matter much. Protect your investment.
Rating: Summary: Does the job Review: I hardly ever write these, but when I see a favorite product with such a low score, I must speak up! I've had these for well over a year and have only used THREE films. I can't even remember when I put the last one on my m505, and it's still in one piece and clear; it still doesn't need to be replaced. The last time I looked at it (without the film), my screen still looked brand new, though it's now 2 years old. At the rate I'm going, I'll probably replace my PDA before I need another package of the WriteRight. I highly recommend this product.
Rating: Summary: Lasts a VERY LONG TIME! Keeps screen like new! Review: I hardly ever write these, but when I see a favorite product with such a low score, I must speak up! Rating: Summary: You have to take off the protective film and clean it Review: I read the previous reviewers comments and was amazed. I know people who use the NuShield brand and rave about it. I have seen the film before installation and it does have a protective film on it that has to be removed first. Sounds like the guy was writing on the protective film instead of the screen protector. No wonder he was disappointed. It always helps to read the directions.
Rating: Summary: Beats NuShield Review: I saw the rave reviews for NuShield and ordered them instead. Frankly, I'm disappointed. The NuShields arrived quickly, but were heavily spotted and very cloudy. The first one I installed was scratched too much to be useable within an hour. Considering the NuShields are five bucks per sheet, I was severely disappointed. I've used Fellowes sheets on two different types of Palms (Vx and Tungsten T) and although they're not crystal clear, they hold up and do what they say they will do -- protect the screen and remain read-through-able. Also, they don't glare in high light (NuShields do this even in minimal light) and the Fellowes don't reduce the apparant light from the handheld itself (the NuShields cut the apparent light by a good 50%). I'll be sticking with the Fellowes in the future.
Rating: Summary: Works for me Review: I was surprised to see this product getting such a low overall rating. I'm not surprised that there were some individual low and high reviewers, since this type of screen protector can't be all things to all people, and people having widely varying taste. But I absolutely loved these screen protectors. I'm one of those people who keeps the temporary plastic shield on that comes with the product forever -- I can't stand having scratches on glass or plastic. My previous Palm was a hand-me-down and was scratched very soon; when I got my m515, I left the original packaging's screen protector on for a few weeks until I could afford the WriteRight. And I'm glad I spent the few extra dollars. I found the protectors easy to apply (much easier than the type that you have to slide under the edges of the screen), and adjust as necessary. The slight adhesive does not leave a residue and keeps the WriteRight from sliding around as do the types that slip under the edges of the screen. There is a minimal difference in feeling when writing on the screen; I got used to it very quickly and found it to be well worth the trade-off to avoid permanent damage to the silkscreen. It took me two tries to apply the first WriteRight correctly, but it was simple to learn and I can do it now quickly without any bubbles or crookedness. They're a little pricey but worth it if you value an unscratched screen (believe me, that is a nightmare). They seem to last long enough to even further justify the small cost. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Does the job Review: I've used the fellowes WriteRights on several items, including watches, PDA's, Walkman, and cell phones. I'd definately recommend them if you are prone to banging up the faces on screens. Just make sure your screen is clean before you apply the film. I usually get about 6 months of use out of the PDA before I need to replace. Best to use right after you purchase your item. As for the people that are dissatisfied, I don't get it. I'm happy with them.
