Rating: Summary: Easy and very effective, but sometimes unreliable Review: Overall, I've been very happy with the reader. So far I have only used it with Windows XP and 2000 and both operating systems were able to recognize it without the need to install additional drivers. This has been incredibly useful in that as a student, I have had the need to transport files back and forth between school and home. For me, floppy disks are unreliable and too small. CD-R's are generally too big for the amounts of data I generally have to transport. The CF Reader, however, is just the right size and highly portable. The only problem I have had is that sometimes Windows does not recognize that I have a card in the reader. Sometimes I have to have the card in the reader when I plug the reader in. Other times, I have to take the card out and put it back in the reader. Outside of this little inconvenience, the CF Reader has been an excellent tool.
Rating: Summary: Great product, great price! Review: This is an all around great deal for anyone who has a digital camera and wants to store their pictures on the computer. The STI-UCF100 handles Type I compact flash, so this was a great addition to my Canon Powershot A200. I take pictures with my camera, and when the card is full (or whenever I want actually) I remove the compact flash card from the camera, insert it into the STI-UCF100 and copy all my files onto my computer. The STI-UCF100 connects via USB making it very handy. Another nice feature is that the STI-UCF100 helps turn your compact flash into an extra portable disk drive. If you have files you need to take to your office computer all you need to do is connect the STI-UCF100 to your office computer and you can transfer anything you want from your compact flash card onto your office computer as well. And if you buy a large compact flash card this will allow you to carry around thousands of files, hundreds of MP3s and a movie or two. There is no software to install, and the detachable USB extension cable that comes with the STI-UCF100 is also extremely handy in case your USB ports are not very accesible (i.e. on the back of the computer). All in all, this is a great product with a great price.
Rating: Summary: doesn't work with Linux Review: This claims to be "mass storage compliant", whatever that means. I'm still not sure what they mean by this, but it doesn't work with Linux. I'm taking mine back and getting a SanDisk model instead (people have got these working with Linux, check the reviews)
Rating: Summary: Easy to use, Hot Swappable is NICE! Review: I installed the SimpleTech reader on my Windows 98 PC in a matter of minutes. Only problem I had was that I had to remove the reader from the cable and re-plug it back in to the cable for it to read the card the first time. Acts just like another drive, very fast! The hot swappable feature is great, my husband can take just the reader to work and plug it into his Macintosh keyboard to use it there, while the cable is still plugged into my PC at home. Highly recommended and great price!
Rating: Summary: Fast and easy Review: Bought this Reader with my new Canon 330 and the downloads are INSTANT. Love it. Am buying more as Christmas gifts.
Rating: Summary: (Inexpensive), easy and well worth it Review: This Flash Reader's well worth the mere ($$$) or so it costs. Rather than hooking your digital camera straight to your computer via a USB cable (which is a bit clunky and drains your camera battery), you just slip your flash Card into the reader and treat it like any other drive on your computer. Super simple setup (basically hook it straight to a USB slot and leave it there) and you can copy over your files in a matter of minutes or less.
Rating: Summary: Best Little Electronic Gizmo You Can Buy For Less Than 20 Review: This is probably the best product I could have ever bought. First off it installed rather easily using Windows Xp. Had a minor glitch when I first plugged it in. Windows wouldn't recognize it. A quick restart fixed that. After that I was copying pictures as fast Jack be Nimble. It saves alot on digital camara battery use. I have two cameras with two different usb adapters now I only use this one product. Fantastic product, I just wish I would have bought it sooner.
Rating: Summary: Quick to install, easy to use. Review: I don't usually give products 5 stars, but this little guy exceeded my expectations. I run Windows XP Professional, and it took me far longer to get the package open than it did to install this thing and get it working! I plugged it in, and about 20 seconds later, I was downloading pictures from my digital camera. It reads quite fast, and can take high capacity type II flash cards - making this a good investment, as I believe that the majority of cameras/MP3 devices are going to begin to migrate to type compact flash type II storage, as it offers a lot more capacity and speed than SD or MMC storage types. It's working fine with my Viking 256 meg flash card. Pros: + easy installation. It appears as another drive on your system, making it as simple as copying to and from a floppy. + good speed. + cool silver appearance - no ugly translucent junk. + ability to take type I and type II cards means that you most likely won't be left out in the cold with future upgrades to your flash memory using devices. Cons: - could be a little smaller, with perhaps a keychain loop. - Perhaps in the next revision .
Rating: Summary: SimpleTech STI-UCF100 Compact Flash Reader Review: I have plugged this into several systems running XP and it has just worked. I have had several other USB readers without as good an experience. Physically it works and works well several compact flash modules I have. It works well with the IBM 1GB Microdrive. This reader is easy to insert new cards into and remove them. I have had problems in the past with a BUSlink usb connector getting the IBM microdrive card back out of the holder. This reader exposes enough of the drive so it is easy to work with.
Rating: Summary: Easy to Use, Save Your Batteries Review: Simple and easy to use, I wish I had bought one sooner. Save the batteries in your camera and use this gadget. Just plug the Compact Flash Card into the Reader and then plug the Reader into the USB port on your PC. With XP that's ALL I need to do, when finished downloading the pictures just pull out the Reader and remove the Compact Flash Card. It's foolproof!!! I highly recommend this product, I think it's GREAT.
