Rating: Summary: Not bad. Review: Bought this reader from Target last week.
Great product.
But I am facing problems with Win2000.
I have to install the driver every time I connect this Reader. Meaning to say, if I unplug(thru proper 'eject hardware') and plug the device again Win2000 does not recognize it. I have again run the driver setup to make it recognize.
If you are ready to live with this process, you can go ahead to buy.
Alternative product: [Lexar multi-card Reader] which is $5 more than GE's. Hope it does not have similar probs.
Rating: Summary: Reads SD cards on my Mac with no need for any other drivers Review: How much can you say about a simple card reader that is true plug-n-play with Mac OS X (10.3). A real bonus is that it uses the mini USB connector so that I need to carry only one cable for my Tungsten E and the card reader.
Rating: Summary: Don't buy this! Review: I got this thing as a wedding gift. I attempted to use it after returning from my honeymoon. It completely corrupted the memory card and of the 80 pictures on the card, only 12 were readable. The camera then could no longer read them either. It's bad enough that it destroyed a $30 memory card, but it lost all of my honeymoon pictures which are irreplaceable. I've had some poor products before, but this one goes down as the worst of all time.
Rating: Summary: GE 8-in-1 card reader/writer (Target) Review: I have no experience with card readers, had a borrowed Olympus digital camera and needed to read the smart card in it. Bought this on a whim at Target for $25 and it worked fine from the first time I used it. My only problem was I kept getting notification it was using a slow USB connection. Found out that required a download for XP SP1 to rectify, so it had nothing to do with the reader. Have since gotten a Sony DSC-10 and this reader reads the Sony Memory Stick & Memory Stick Pro just fine -- and it's at full USB 2.0 specs, AFAIK. I can copy files, write to the stick (I've even used it to transfer regular computer files between computers), make directories on it, etc. Based on my previous experience (none), this unit is flawless, maybe that means it's GREAT ??
Rating: Summary: Sometimes it works, Sometimes it doesn't... Review: I purchased this a few years ago and have used it on several different computers (Mac & PC) with good performance most of the time. On my older iMac running OS 9.X it runs great as well as on my Powerbook with OS 10.2. However, when I upgraded my OS to 10.3 the reader is unreliable. The computer can see the drive and will auto-open my imaging software to allow me to import my photos to my computer, however an icon for the reader does not appear on the desktop - making it is impossible to un-mount without the " device improperly removed" warning popping up each time you remove it. I have not located a newer software driver for it online (and I never even installed the drivers on my previous OS). Maybe it's time to move on...
Rating: Summary: Reads and writes well but cable connector gets loose. Review: It reads and writes well, tried it with compact flash cards and memory stick, and both work without a hitch, but only if the connector at the back of the device can hang on to the cable. It may be a bad piece I got, may not be a problem with all of them but I'll let you decide. And you should be ok if you have 1 card to read/write. From day one, the connector was loose, so after you very carefully get 1 card in and read from it, when you try to remove the card to put in a second one the cable comes loose the moment you touch it, and the computer thinks you have ejected the hardware. Then it wont recognize the device again till you reboot(logout and login again doesnt work).
Rating: Summary: won't read Magic Gate! Review: this is a revision of my previous review -- just purchased 256MB memory stick pro with Magic Gate -- and this reader will NOT read it!
Rating: Summary: Awesome Product!!! Review: This is a wonderful product for transferring images to the computer from a memory card! I cannot believe how simple it is! I'll never go back to connecting the camera to the computer again! GREAT PRODUCT!!!!

Rating: Summary: Please don't waste your time Review: This should be the 8-in-1 card MISreader. Firstly, it was unable to correctly read .jpg files from an SD card, thereby rendering my viewer software incapable of opening the files. Secondly, despite two installations (with a complete uninstall between) of the device's driver according to the directions, the device consistently produced a "plug-in error" and was therefor unusable. GE, I like your products in general, but please recall this one.
