Rating: Summary: Worst lens purchase i ever made. Review: While searching for a lens for my new elan 7 I came upon this one. I figured that since angry people are more likely to write a review, there are bound to be more bad reviews. It is only now, when the lens is on its second trip to be repaired for the same thing, that I realize that this lens in particular is not a good one. The af/mf switch broke on me twice, and when it was repaired the first time the Sigma workman snapped the data cable in the lens and now it doesn't stop down. Now the warranty is out and the lens is practically unusable.
I thought that lemons only come to other people, but this is just one bad lens, especially on newer bodies, since Sigma does not buy the specifications from Canon, like Tamron does.
Do yourself a favor and pass over this one and get the Canon 28-105 f3.5-5.6 (make sure you get the f3.5, not f4) or the Canon 28-135 f3.5-5.6 IS. They are both much (much) quieter (silent), faster operating and aperture, and are guaranteed to work with your Canon body.
When I contacted Sigma support they were often busy and not very helpful. Canon, on the other hand, was very nice to work with.
I will enjoy my new 28-135 USM IS, and I will try to trade this lens in for some money, even though it is now out of warranty.
And a note to people like me out there...Spend your money on the lens! It is much better to have the 28-135 IS with a rebel ti than a 28-90 on an elan 7e.
