Summary: Design flaws ruined the better functions
Review: I returned mine for a couple of reason: The transport makes too much noise, especially when I listen late at night (I don't want to hear the machine, just the music); and the alarm does not allow you to set volume, so unless you remember to listen at night at the level you want to wake up to (so much for the sleep function) it may be too lound or too quiet in the morning. I found the Sony CMT-ED1 to have better sound, and to be more intelligently designed, for less money.

Summary: COOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLL
Review: I used to have this, but I had to trade it in with AIWA CX-NA50, a 3-CD changer with supposedly more goodies than this little JVC(my sister suggested that I should). Now, how dearly I miss that cute, little JVC!!

I am a computer addict, and I suppose that makes me a bit more tolerant of glitches any hardware has. I must say, this JVC's "gem" is much better than the AIWA one I have. The AIWA is much more bigger, and has much bigger speakers, but the controls are hectic. I CANNOT believe that it is made(or designed) by Japanese engineers.

On the other hand, small and flashy appearance of this JVC is not just skin-deep. Easy accessibilty to controls, excellent design and great sound. I MISS YOU, JVC FS-7000. I would kill my AIWA for the JVC. Overall, I rate this as a 4 star, only because of its size. Everything else, 5+.

Summary: Very nice
Review: I'm not exactly an audiophile and I'm not the most discerning consumer in the world when it comes to appreciating differences in sound quality, but I really like this system. I was looking for a shelf-sized system that I could put on my dresser in my bedroom. The problem was that most minisystems were so amazingly ugly that I wouldn't even consider having them in my apartment (and that says a lot, considering that I ordinarily don't care about such things). The FS-7000 offered very good looks and what I consider to be very good sound quality in a small package. I've played everything from classical to modern and I've been very satisfied with the result. True, you can only load one CD at a time and it is a bit pricey. However, it was the best product that I found in its class and I am very satisfied.

Summary: I love mine
Review: I've had the 7000 for about a year now and would not willingly change it for any other system. I have not found any problems with the sound or with transport noise, and I really like the remote control. The wood speakers are cool and make the whole system look much nicer than the usual bookshelf setup. I know you could put together a cheaper package using a Discman and Cambridge Soundworks speakers, but I wanted an integrated clock radio/CD for the bedroom, and this one is perfect for my needs.

Summary: not great
Review: I've had the FS-7000 for a few months now, and it especially bothers me that there is no balance control, b/c I don't have room for speakers on one side of my TV. I didn't find out until it was too late though.

Summary: Nice Product, but Value?
Review: Its amazing to me what they are getting for these compact stereo systems. Sure, this one has some nice little touches, but, where it counts, its strictly mass market materials (the CD transport, the preamp, the amplifier topology and, except for the admittedly nice wood and glass touches, the construction.

If you want pure sound and can live without all the extraneous features, check out Cambridge Audio's SoundWorks. Its $99, and for that you get a powered subwoofer and two satellite speakers, very small. You have to add a portable CD player, but that is pretty cheap these days. The sound is KILLER. I don't believe the JVC unit can compare, certainly not in bass response. For under $200, half of the JVC system price, its a great system.

Summary: Great system, but shop around
Review: Just bought this from amazon.com a couple of weeks ago, and it more than meets my needs. I was disappointed to see it offered at a retail stereo store in the Boston area (Tweeters) for $50 less, and then saw it on a website (Mercata, perhaps) for nearly $100 less than what amazon is selling it for. That's disappointing. So shop around.

Summary: Audiophile quality sound
Review: Recently I purchased the JVC FS-V5 for the bedroom, and now I splurged on this one for my home office. I admit I prefer the styling of this unit over the FS-V5, and the wooden speaker boxes with quality speaker cable are very worthwhile.

The sound is fantastic - it is quite amazing to hear what those tiny speakers can do. The sound compares very well with my main audio system.

However, the display is not as well designed as that of the FS-V5. In addition, the clock irritates me: the display settings are NOT remembered, so each time you turn the unit on or off, your preferred settings are reset. For example, suppose you prefer only the analogue clock face when the unit is on. Turn the unit off, and then on again, and the radio frequency or cd track information is back.

Another problem is the loudness of the cd transport system - both the spinning of the cd, and the movement of the optical head is noisy. Since I tend to play my music relatively loud, it does not bug me, but the noise is definitely audible during the quiet between tracks. I would suggest that someone who prefers their music at low volume had better use headphones or buy something else (like the JVC FS-V5, whose transport is much quieter).

All in all, it does everything I want it to do, in style, and I am certainly happy with my purchase.

Summary: Nice, but unit has some annoying features
Review: Sound is great. The separate bass/treble controls are much appreciated. However the unit has some minor annoyances, such as the fact that you MUST use the remote or the little button to open/close the lid. The manual says you WILL damage the lid's mechanism if you close it manually (by pushing on it)... even though manually closing it seems to work, but who wants to risk a $300+ investment? Also, the unit gets VERY warm, even when shut off but still plugged in. Heat is supposed to cause degradation of CD-R media (in case you're burning your own CD's from old LP's or cassettes or your own music or whatever). So even when you're NOT playing your CD's and the unit is off, it's still quite warm in the CD compartment (feel the lid, it's warm). The other minor annoyance is the stupid clock is intrusive and everytime the power's off, or the unit's unplugged, it has to be reset again. The default clock position is "on", I realize you can shut it off with the controls, but for people like my mother (who I bought this unit for) who have a bad habit of unplugging things to vacuum or whatever, it's an annoyance. Other than the above it's fine. Certainly sounds nice.
