Rating: Summary: Great looking, even better sounding Review: After an extensive search for a new system, I broke it down to the following criteria:1. Sound: must fill a large room (master bedroom or living room) with full quality and good bass tone 2. Looks: wanted something with classic look and good fit, i wasn't looking for an entertainment center, but a piece of furniture that sounds good 3. Multiple disc, easy to use: must be non-tethered (easily swappable discs) without loud changing noise and quickly changes CDs The MC-70 fills all of the above and then some. The sound quality is outstanding, I recommend if you are getting a mini-system to not go less than about 80-watts, you really sacrafice sound quality in the low tones. The wOOx is awesome, I don't even have it on the highest setting. Sound is not distored at all and has great volume range. The appearance is better than expected, it's go a sleek silver base with warm blue tones that make it look more expensive than it costs. the wood grain speakers with the glass on top are great. I'd recommend getting a mini-shelf stand as well, it completes the look very well. The three disc changer is great. separate ejects for each so that you can two switch while the third is playing. Switching CDs to play another CD is quick (2-3 seconds to start playing the new CD). The only drawback at all is the slight noise while changing trays, but it's really good compared to others i've heard and so short you don't really notice. I also checked out several AIWA systems and SONY systems in the 60 - 300 watt range and this one rocked. Go for it.
Rating: Summary: Deep Bass From a Micro System -- Yes It's True!! Review: All through the years I've had stereo systems with large speakers. As technology improved, we see systems such as the Philips MC-70 (smaller but with superior sound quality). This is the best sounding system for the money I have ever heard. The tweeters emit a clear, crisp sound and the top fired woofers (wOOx bass) really rock. The 3 tray CD changer is really neat. The CD trays are clearly marked (1, 2, & 3) in white numbers (you see these numbers after the tray slides out). Set up is easy and the controls are clearly marked. The "dim feature" lets you select different lighting modes for the display panel. Bass and treble are adjustable plus there are "3" levels of the wOOx bass. There's also a sub-woofer output, but this baby has enough bass for me without a sub. The wooden speaker cabinets lend a touch of class to the system and it would fit in just about any room. I recommend not going below 35 watts RMS per channel (the MC-70 has 50 watts per channel). This assures you of sufficient bass response. If you want quality for a very reasonable price, this system is for you!!
Rating: Summary: Sounds sound Review: Amazing little Hi-fi worth every penny. Small enough to fit into a small space yet wicked sound to fill a massive area. Chill to the 3 CDs you put in the selector and with the soothing blue of the stereo relax to your tunes or rave with the base before going out to dance the night away with equal quality sounds on the dancefloor. Buying a stereo with all the choice out there was a tough one but now i've bought this great piece of technology i'm never looking back. I'm too busy listening to my music!
Rating: Summary: More than Meets the Eye Review: I agonized for a month over which system would be perfect for me. I was worried that if I purchased a smaller system the wattage wouldn't be enough to provide the sound I desired. I also wanted a system that looked sleek. I narrowed it down to three systems by Phillips (MC-70, FWC-870, FWP900). All three of them were 299.99 and they all had the desired sleek look of silver. The only difference was the size of the system. I finally decided on the MC-70 assuming that I'd be getting the same quality of sound regardless what size I chose. Upon receiving the system I was assured that I had made the right decision for the following reasons: 1) The system is small and fits in practically anywhere. Especially in a dorm room. 2) Sound is not compromised for size. (wOOx is incredible!) 3) The display lights up with a soft glowing blue. 4) The IS (Incredible Surround) sound feature. I am definitely pleased with my investment and I would recommend this to anyone looking for a system with the above qualities as well as the basic features (3-CD changer, AUX input, etc.).
Rating: Summary: 3-CD tray is bound to go bad! Review: I am writing this review as though it were me considering this purchase. I did the same before buying the mc70 and have had issues first with the buttons that control the cd mechanism (they didn't work) and then the CD's got stuck in the machine. I remember being warned in a prior review about this but thought that I would never do this. It happened and now it cost me $55 to fix this (I am still under warrantee but they will not cover this). I consider this a bad design as it is easy since there are three trays to mistakenly add a CD on top of another. Do it once and you pay. Their warrantee service also is not very accomadating. I am now on my own and not sure that I want to pay to fix it. I regret my purchase. Just remember my review if you buy this thing. Yes the sound is great but what's the use if you're always bringing it in for repairs?

Rating: Summary: A big stereo sound in a small package........ Review: I bought this system after doing weeks of research and listening to various models. I bought it on a whim through EBAY for $125 shipped and received it a mere 2 days afterwards. It was easy to set up and takes up little space in the bedroom. I've only two minor complaints about it, and they're both concerning the 3-CD funtion:
1. Whenever I turn the unit back on, I have to constantly reset the CD function to "REPEAT/SHUFFLE/ALL DISCS" in order for it to play all the CDs in random order.
2. The CD-changer tray is very noisy when switching.(I've also heard and read various reviews about the CD mechanism going bad, but I've yet to come across that issue).
Otherwise, this little stereo is simply incredible. The light wood/metallic exterior is very classy and elegant. Although I have a bigger, more powerful system in the living room, the sound quality from the MC70 is the best that I've ever heard: the treble is nice and clear; the bass is just right(neither feeble nor boomy), the "WOOX" feature seem to bring out the best in the music and the "INCREDIBLE SURROUND" feature creates a sonic ambience that gives more life and depth to the music. Also, the unit emits a soft blue glow(it can be turned off if need be) that just "sets the mood". And since I've been using my PC as a jukebox, I just simply keep the "IS" and "WOOX" features on and just kick back after a long day of work.
If I ever had the unit stolen I would certainly search high and low to replace it. It's a shame that Philips no longer offers such a great minisystem for sale......:*(
Rating: Summary: If only PCs were made like this..... Review: I bought this system on a whim, more because of its price (£200) rather than features of which i have no understanding nor interest. All I can say is that I have been mightly impressed by this system and its intuitive ease of use. There may well be better systems but you will not be disappointed should you buy this!
Rating: Summary: 3-CD tray is bound to go bad! Review: I purchased Philips MC70 about 2 years from Amazon.co after an extensive research on the internet (which meant staying up a few nights and reading all the reviews on this product). When I started listening to my music on this stereo, I was quite satisfied with the sound quality. However, from the very begining I was uneasy about the loud CD changing mechanism, which led me to believe that this sytem wasn't going to last too long. (if there was anything I learned from majoring in mechanical engineering is that anything with rotating mechanism is bound to go wrong some day) I do listen to a lot of music, which means a lot of CD-changing myself in any given day. After 2 years, lo and behold, now the tray mechanism is all messed up. Every time I put in my CD in any tray, it gets jammed inside with annoying sound, and spit the CD right back out. I would then have to reinsert the CD a few times to see if the tray will rotate to the right position to read the CD. If i'm lucky, I am able to listen to my favorite CDs. If not, oh well. Sometimes, when i hit "play" it will give me a ridiculous display like "Open Tray 2", which leaves me all frustrated. This means then I have to unplug the main power to start from scratch to undo the messed up internal software command. Don't get me wrong, this system has a very good sound, but the 3-Cd exchanger tray mechanism is something you should definitely stay away from. It lasted 2 years with me. It's about to be shelved away forever because it's just not wortH it to have someone to fix it for me (i can try to take it apart myself "for fun" at least to get an idea what went wrong). This has taught me a valuable lesson on CD-exchanger systems. I'm definitely getting a new audio system soon with a single CD tray system.
Rating: Summary: Surprising sound for the size and price Review: I was looking for a small system for my bedroom. Since my musical tastes run more toward classical than hip-hop, I was skeptical of typical "boom-box" systems. A very positive review in a major consumer-testing publication led me to try this system. I've been extremely pleased with its sound quality. Even demanding recordings like Bach organ music sound wonderful on it. The level of bass is amazing for speakers of this size, and Philip's Woox technology and Incredible sound settings really do improve the enjoyment of the music.
