Summary: Waste of Money
Review: If I could rate this system as 0 stars I would, but the review form doesn't give that option.

The sound quality is very low, speakers have sounded tinny and crackly since I took it out of the box. It also skips badly, to the point of being unlistenable... even on brand-new CDs fresh out of the jewel case.

The only pluses are its thin design and accessibility of RCA input/output plugs. This gives you the option to either input from a better sound source, or output to a better speaker... but of course it then begs the question of why you'd want this system in the first place.

Summary: Nice package -- poor quality
Review: Looks great but the controls are almost impossible to master. They make it incredibly difficult to program and it lacks features and functionality that it should have such as being able to select which cd track to wake up to.

Summary: Elaboration on why this is a bad choice
Review: Several people have mentioned that this is a bad stereo, but here are a few details if you're still torn...

Looks: The pictures make this look like a really cool stereo. Out of the box, it looks pretty ugly. Yes, those speakers are indeed bright blue. No, the stereo is not chrome, it's cheap grey plastic. It's amazing how good the pictures make it look compared to the real thing. Also, the white cord that comes with it is difficult to hide in any place I've used it, and sort of looks tacky. You can use batteries, but...

Sound: Ick. This thing manages to make CD's sound like audio tapes. It gets distorted and washed out very quickly. I've spent probably a total of an hour trying to adjust the settings to get better sound out of it, but it just doesn't happen.

I got this unit free in a raffle, but I didn't like it enough to keep it. I took it into work and gave it to our techs to use in the repair room. They didn't even leave it hooked up for a week, the sound is that bad.

Hope this helps.

Summary: At least it looks good (in the picture)
Review: The picture of the SLIM 1500 looks good; sadly the complimentary aspects of the stereo end there. If you are unfortunate enough to purchase one of these or receive it as a gift and for some reason do not want to take it back, here is a tip. IF you can get a CD to load properly and the speakers are not detached, do not turn the volume up above a whisper. The vibration makes the CD skip. That is if you can get the CD to start playing at all. The sound "quality" is terrible, a complete waste of money.

Summary: Great small system!
Review: This little Fisher is a really nice piece of equipment if you are looking for a reasonably priced, extremely good looking stereo for a small area. I have had this for several weeks now. I bought it for my living room (which is VERY small) because my Bose was simply too powerful for the small space, and my jazz cds sounded really distorted. On my Fisher, they sound really great. What I like best about this stereo is that I control the bass and treble, so I can adjust them to the type of music I am listening too (yes, they should be adjusted according to the type of music, jazz, rock or classical). The surround sound feature is really nice. If you are looking for a stereo that will blast a 12 square mile area, this is not the unit for you. If you are looking for a really nice, inexpensive system where YOU control the way your music sounds, this is the system for you. My only complaints are that there is no readout to indicate the bass and treble settings, and there is no cassette player.

Summary: Not really more than a clock radio/CD
Review: This seems like a nice idea: being able to have a CD player and AM/FM tuner is a thin package. Can can be mounted on the wall or put on an included stand. I've seen high-end versions of this concept and they seemed pretty cool.

I received my SLIM-1500 free, using credit card points. That said, I was a little surprised when I opened the box. It's plastic and not very nice plastic at that. From a distance, I have to admit, it looks cool. Up close, it doesn't look as good, but it's not too bad. Touch it, however, and you'll feel something pretty cheap.

Given the thin speakers and the low speaker wattage output, you're not going to get great (or very loud) sound, although it's acceptable for casual listening. I'm not an audiophile and my room setup is sub-optimal anyway, so the sound is fine (although I would have liked some additional volume).

I hooked up my CD changer and the speakers made terrible popping noises. I have the reduce the sound output from my CD changed to the minimum to get rid of this problem.

The radio works as expected and the single CD player does what it needs to do. The vertical layout of the CD player is sometimes hard to use (I have my SLIM-1500 on a bookshelf), but looks neat when the CD is spinning.

The surround sound mode does nothing. I can detect no difference. Ditto for the dynamic bass. Which brings me to the bass/treble buttons. They do nothing! Since the volume/bass/treble levels don't show on the display, I have no idea what they are doing (if anything). And, except for volume, using the other controls gives no sound difference at all. Maybe you need a subwoofer (for the bass, at least)?

In the end, this is basically just a clock radio, although an interesting looking one. It pales in comparison to the low-end (it's one of those $200 "home theater in a box" things) Dolby Surround (5 speaker) receiver that it's replacing. In the end, it does the job for what I paid ($0), but you can do much better for a few dollars more.

Summary: Good for the money
Review: This stereo looks cool and sounds decent. I have a "real" stereo in my livingroom, but I wanted something for the study that wouldn't take up a lot of space and would let me listen to CDs or my computer (it has computer input on the front!) while I work, and this stereo does that for me.

Summary: Very poor sound quality, looks only...
Review: What a disappointment. This system looks great on your desk but sounds and performs horribly, no exaggeration. The volume knob is extremely fickle and inconsistent, it works when it wants to, and the speakers distort and only minimum volumes. I opened the box, set it up, popped in a cd, and no sooner had it back in the box ready to ship back. Sorry Fisher, it's nothing personal, but unless you are going strictly for looks this is just not a very good product.

Summary: It's not a bad one
Review: You Know, some of you said that the sound quality of this system are poor, and your right. But, the looks of it and the price of it force me to give 3 Stars for this Ficher Slim 1500 System.

The Bass is not so bad, but it can be better for a Ficher System. The remote control is very complete and some of the fonction, like the "SureWake" are very helpful.
