Rating: Summary: BEWARE: Pioneer 8X drive only writes these at 4X Review: According to Ritek's site, they are working on getting a full 8X out of Pioneer's DVR-107D and DVR-A07XLA, but they are not there yet. I'm disappointed because I didn't consult their site before buying them and expecting to write at 8X with my Pioneer drive.
One would easily assume that a DVD writer, with a big fat 8X on the box (running the latest firmware and software), and media with that same fat 8X on the wrapper would be able to write at 8X, but guess what? Not true!
Rating: Summary: So far so Good Review: I also have the Plextor DVD burner and So far all my Ridata discs have burned perfectly! (over 20 so far)
These DVD's are much better than the first one's I bought at Amazon (Memorex 4x), I had a lot of coasters with those!!!
Rating: Summary: Used To Be Great, But Not Anymore... Review: I am on my third spindle of these Ridata DVD+R's. The first two spindles were fantastic and I had ZERO coasters. I ordered the third spindle a few weeks ago and I have thrown away 95% of the discs that I have burned. The burns completed without error, but skipped and pixelated around 3/4 thru the disc.
I haven't changed my software or made any other changes to my computer that would have caused this, and I am running the latest available firmware on my burner. I bought a couple of Maxell DVD+R's to rule out a bad burner and they burned and played fine.
After doing some research online, I learned that Ridata is farming out their production to other companies and that the quality has dropped dramatically. I will not be buying any more of this brand of DVD's and I would no longer recommend them to anyone, either.
I now have 75 blanks that I can't use or return, because I have already removed the bar code and sent it in for the $10.00 rebate. Oh, well... live and learn.
Rating: Summary: Great product Review: I use a khypermedia 8X burner and burned through a 50 pack without one bad one. The quality is simply surperb! I had purchased a memorex 25 pack and had 3 bad ones. These disks are thicker and better quality well worth the price. My friend has a Dell with a 8X burner and he also burned through a 50 pack with no problems. We both went and purchased a 100 pack spindle with confidence in the quality of these disks.
Rating: Summary: Decent 8X media Review: The media code is RITEK R03.
I originally wrote a two-star review for this media, because it was 80% coasters at 8X in my Plextor PX-708A.
I've since upgraded the firmware to version 1.08, which is documented as improving writes with Ritek media at 4X. It apparently did the trick for 8X as well, because I've now done over 10 burns at 8X with no coasters.
I give it only four stars out of five because discs burned at 8X or 4X do not work in my older (and admittedly pick) Sony DVD player (DVP-550). They do work in a newer Sony DVD player I tested with. Only discs burned at 2.4X will work in my Sony.
All in all, my original advice stands - use the media recommended by your drive manufacturer, but this media serves pretty well for Plextor PX-708A owners with the 1.08 firmware revision.
Rating: Summary: Got several coasters - would not recommend Review: The Ritek Ridata (RICOHJPN-R01-002) DVD+R media worked fine for around 10 burns, and I was quite happy with it. Then all of a sudden I got 7 coasters and nothing has changed in my configuration. I am using a Philips SDVD-6004 DVD+RW drive that came with my Dell Inspiron 5150 laptop. I tried both Nero and Roxio and both gave the same results.
I would not recommend this media to anyone. If you're using some media with your burner already and planning to switch to Ritek just because of the lower cost, trust me - its not worth it, because if you factor in the cost of the wasted coasters you'll be even, and not to talk of the agony and the time wasted.
Rating: Summary: Simply perfect Review: These are the best DVD+Rs I have ever used. I have never had a single coaster. Even though they are only rated at 8X, my Pioneer DVR-108 will burn these at 12X. The problems that most people have with these discs are due to 1)old firmware, and/or 2)cheap DVD+R drives.
Rating: Summary: The very best Review: These disks perform as advertised. I have used many of them and all burned perfectly. I have a Plextor 8X DVD burner.
Rating: Summary: Works Review: this thing do works..I gave 4 stars bacause so far i have burned about 20 DVD's and found 2 of them had defects...so they couln't be burned...
