Summary: LEXAR Junkdrives
Review: I bought 4 of these junky devices and they didn't work in Windows 2000 at all. They did work with WinXp, but without the connection to 2000, why would someone want to purchase one. Lexar support blamed my computers, but my other USB Drives work just fine, without disconnecting all of my other USB devices. Apparently the problem is with the junkdrive, so buyer beware if you need to support a Win2K desktop. I purchased these devices for 19.99 each at Staples and then returned them after Christmas for a full refund. Any questions, send email. We need to show junk for what it is!

Review: I keep this on my keychain, mainly just to move image files from my desktop (where I have photo editing) to my laptop (which is connected to the photo printer...don't ask). I've also moved MP3 files to friends' computers. It's worked perfectly every time.

Review: Estas memorias están realmente buenas (aunque sean un poco caras), siendo una de sus mayores ventajas la facilidad de traslado y de conexión. Tengan cuidado los que piensan utilizarlas en PCs con Windows 98 ya que requiere la instalación de drivers y esto siempre genera una molestia extra. Por lo demás son excelentes, sobre todo si utilizan plataformas como MacOs y Win Xp. En cuanto al peso son ligerísimas y el tamaño (a pesar de ser bastante chicas = 6 x 2cms.) no son tan pequeñas como parecen en la foto.
En resúmen: muy lindas visualmente y extremadamente útiles.

Summary: An awesome and an extremely practical gadget.
Review: I got this one from Amazon a couple of weeks ago as part of a redemption of a gift certificate. I am extremely happy with it and think it is worth every penny, especially if you need to frequently carry large files around. Goodbye stacks of floppy, goodbye clumsy CD ROMs (even if you can rewrite them), goodbuy chunky zip drives, HELLLLO FLASH MEMORY!!!This gadget is so versatile and easy to use. On a windows machine running ME or later, just insert this one in the USB drive and there you go, a new drive under your service. No formatting, no gimmicks, just move your files around, remove the dirve, and carry them around for as long as you want. This drive has a stylish design that reveals the interior through a purple plastic casing. The casing has a matching cap like a pen cover, and a hole through which you can add the drive to your key chain. I suspect that in the very near future, with the technology moving towards more capacity for the same price, CDs, DVDs and zip drives will become the new tape drives and compactflash drives will become the defacto storage technology. Some catches to put in mind:
1- The drive needs to install some of the drivers when it is first used on a certain computer. Although the drivers are installed from the standard files of Windows, you still need Administrative access to make the computer see the drive. So, before you carry the drive with you to a public or school library or that critical presentation you are having, make sure that either the computer you are working on is configured for USB drives, or that you can install the drivers. 2- The small size of the drive, and the key chain hole suggests that you can treat it the way you treat your keys. I don't think this is a valid assumption. First, you will have to unhook it every time you want to use it since after its insertion it basically is hanging on its USB socket. So, it shouldn't be able to carry the weight of the key chain. Second, I don't think the plastic casing can take the beating of using the drive as you use your keys. 3- The capacity of the drive is not exactly 128MB! It is 128 Milllion Bytes, which translates to 125KB or 122MB. For those who do not know the difference, an MB is 1024*1024 bytes and NOT 1,000,000 bytes. So, divide 128 million bytes by 1024 and you get the KBs, and by 1024 again to get the MBs. So, don't be surprised if Windows tells you the size of the drive is less than what you expect. 4- The cover needs to be a little bit more securely attached to the drive. I hope it does not loosen after sometime of use. In short, this is a great gadget if you need it. If you really have the need to carry big files around then it can be also worthwhile investing in a larger drive. For me, this size is perfect for my usage and I am happy with it.

Summary: Great color and design, not very durable
Review: I bought this device a little over a year ago and use it every day. I carry it on my keychain. I have a few concerns about the appearance and some questions about daily use, especially on a keychain, that hesitates me to recommend this particular model to others. Technologically, the device is fast and reliable. I have had no problems in over one year of daily use--including in environments with big static electricity problems (including static shocks that travel through the unit). The shape and color are both extremely cool and attractive. I get compliments on this device for both its form and its function. The durability is very questionable. The circuit board inside is not affixed to the unit so it shakes freely, which is probably a good thing since you can't accidentally break it off its internal mount. The device is not water-tight. I didn't think this was such a big deal until after several rainy days. The USB connector immediately rusted but the device still works. If the device is required to be on your keychain it should be water-tight or at least water-resistant. The Lexar device is neither and the rusty insides have made me relegate it to a backup device. The keychain loop is not large enough for normal-size keychains so you need to use a small keychain loop and not attach it directly to the keychain. You must also have a quick-release keychain if you plan to remove it as the base is what attaches to the keychain. Of course the cap falls off constantly and the painted markings will scratch off after only a few days. If this device is cheap I recommend it. I have seen VIKING and other brands use this exact housing with a different color. Since this is only a USB 1.1 unit you should expect to see it available for incredibly low prices. Even one year ago I got it for less than twenty dollars after rebate, which is exceptionally cheap.

Review: Although you can get more space on a 256MB, 512MB or 1GB USB Drives, 128MB works for me and you cant beat the price.

Summary: Wow I am giving them to everyone!! Perfect gift!
Review: This is my favourite stocking stuffer/Birthday gift/thank you gift!! I did not know Freedom was spelled with something so SMALL!! It about the size of a tube of lipstick (this one has a pocket clip, the larger one has keyrings!). No software to install, no drivers needed, just pop it into the USB port, let it see it and go...Please remember - DO NOT remove them from the USB until you use the USB Disconnect - sits down on your task bar. Double click that, locate the Jump Drive and highlight, then click STOP. Once it tells you it is safe, then you can remove them and take them anywhere. Think about it no troublesome floppys. No wear and tear on the CD Drive! Both drive more expensive to replace if they break. No worries about format. I have a Gateway laptop that is formated in NTFS and the rest of my laptops and PCs are Fat-32. Every time I want to move files from the Gateway, the PC on Fat-32 looks at the floppy and said "Do you wish to reformat". It refuses to handle this. So I have to burn files to CD to transfer. NO MORE. As a writer I have to have more than one computer and I have to be able to store, protect and move files from one computer to another. This was a constant headache. NO MORE. When I am writing, I finish, pop this in and copy the files to the drive. My work is protected from temperamental computers and I can take the drive and go copy the files to all the other computers. I am saving money not using Floppy and CD RW, saving wear and tear and CD ROMs that go out every two years. And I have the freedom of going any where with files. Works for Pcs, Laptops and Mac...what more can you say....bloody brilliant and the perfect stocking stuffer or thank you to the friend! A Writer's MUST!

Summary: An easy way to store files when you are on the go!
Review: This is a fantastic piece of technology and I really like it. If you think about it, there really are only 4 ways to exchange technology between computers (for the average person). You could use a floppy drive -but they are not standard anymore on next generation computers, and they only hold 1 megabyte of infomation -hardly enough to handle more than a picture or two. Or, you could use a Zip drive. But here's the problem. You now have 100, 250, and 750 megabyte drives, and though you can read any of the older zip disks with a newer drive, you CANNOT WRITE ON THEM (and the reading process is REALLY slow). I made this mistake, and I am stuck with a 750 Megabyte drive that no one else has, so I can't do much more than backup my own data. Or, you can burn information to a CD-rom and move it that way. Yes, you can do this, IF you have a burner and a blank cd on the computer you need data from, but that very likely may not be an answer either for casual transfers. Amd finally, what I had been using most of the time, email. You can realistically email up to 3-5 MB of pictures or files. Pretty easy to use, and everyone has it, but not a solution for photos or large files. This is where the jumpdrive comes in -and I think it is the perfect replacement. It is the size of your little finger and (this version) holds 128 MB! Best of all, the price is VERY reasonable at the moment. Here's how it works. You pull of the cap and plug the drive directly into your comuter's USB port. (You don't need any software or drivers to preload -you just plug it in to any computer.) When it is plugged in the computer automatically recognizes it as a new drive right on your desktop. I.e. Go to your "My Computer" section and it now shows up as "Lexar Media (H:)" You then treat it like you would any other drive -you can save files to it, or you can just drag and drop files to it. Here's another cool thing about the Lexar version of this drive. There is a little green light on the memory stick that lights up and blinks when it is first plugging in, and also when it is loading data. This will prevent you from removing the stick before the data is loaded -which is usually something that happens very quick! I am very happy with this portable drive. It is something that is effortless to use, and is small enough that it can basically hang on your keychain so you have it wherever you need it. (In fact, there is actually a hook on the top of the drive so you can clip or hook it to whatever you want.) Finally, it is something that I can feel confident that even non-techies will be able to use with ease -in other words, this is what mom and dad get for Christmas!

Summary: Excellent when there is no problem
Review: There is no doubt about the advantage of using this jumpDrive (128MB). However, be very careful when you use it with an external usb hub or pcmcia usb, as I did. I did that once, and the jumpDrive died.
May be it was a problem in my usb-pcmcia card. But, that killed my jumpDrive, anyhow. One second thing, It is not related to the hardware but to Lexar company. They never sent me the mail-in-rebate, after more than 6 months now.

Summary: WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE?
Review: This is just so cool and so practical to use. No software to install, no need to burn a CD_RW to take data from computer to computer. Small and easy to use, I just can't stop showing everyone my new "toy" that allows me to keep my whole custom software program and all the data right at my fingertips. I can easily make a copy to take home or off-site and can plug it into any computer to access the data. Much better than a CD, because I can make changes on the fly. I'm going to get more than one, so I can have one for each project.
