Summary: The best mp3 player
Review: This is the best mp3 player you can get, it cost as much as half of other players and it can store up to 700 megs on a disc. a media for this player costs about 0.001 dollars for a meg when a media for other players costs about 2 dollars. The only problams with this it that it skips a little, and they say it has about 15 hours of battery life but i got 10 hours at most. get this.

Summary: Exelente tocador de formatos de MP3 and Windows

Summary: Good Quality/Features
Review: I just took my RioVolt to Europe for 10 days and avoided having to take my entire CD collection. Instead of almost 100 CDs and 100's of MP3s, I was able to fit it all on 7 MP3 CDRs -- and with only one device, I still had room to take my favorite CDs too. My only complaints are that battery life is a little shorter than advertised and the interface is a little clumsy at times. However, the Rio's flash memory can be updated by downloading from the website, so new features may be in the works -- even long after you have bought it, you can add the new features. Overall I am pleased with the quality of construction, much better than I'd expect from the ... MP3-CD competitors. But, as with any portable CD, be careful with it.

Summary: The last portable CD player you will ever need.
Review: This thing absolutely is great. I've had mine since March 2001 (right when they shipped) and it's been worth every penny. SonicBLUE seems to be firmly committed to upgrading the devices features on a regular basis, and there have been numerous upgrades (all upgradeable with a very small download) that have incorporated a TON of useful features, and even have helped extend the already large battery life. They really seem interested in listening to what the users have to say (amazing concept) and change things or attempt to, based on what people say. The initial unit had quite a few minor flaws and quirks, but so far they've corrected every problem that I've had with it. The gaps between tracks used to be significant, but they've shortened the delay between loading tracks to nearly nothing. The user interface used to be crowded and cumbersom, and they've changed it into a nested menu based interface, which is absolutely wonderful as well. It's these added bits that make this a truly worthwhile purchase. Most consumer electronics products never change once you take them home, but hopefully a new trend is starting where hardware gets updated in the same fashion that software does.

As for everything else, the unit is a truck. The week I got it, I went on a long trip, and the first set of batteries (normal Energizer batteries) lasted for almost the entire week. (around 15 hours of total use I'd guess) I took the player to the beach, and while it has a problem starting up (for me anyway) in direct sunlight, it worked just fine when I put it under a towel. Not quite as durable as perhaps another brand of CD player, but you really don't need to keep anything plastic out in direct sunlight I suppose.

My only complaint about the unit is the pair of earbuds that it comes with are still rather cheap and don't really put out a good sound. Not really important though, since no player in existence seems to come with any headphones that aren't worthless. I'd definitely order a top quality pair of headphones with the player if you don't have some already.

Summary: Billy Bob's Review
Review: I got me this player for my boy's birthday and he says he can play some pee three's on it that he got of the internet. I say how can you get pee three's on the internet, and he tell me there's this napsta program that run on my windows computer so I try it and he was right. I got me some good ol country music about some hilly billies. Then he put these songs on the cd for me through some computer burning device he got which he says uses some laser to burn the cd. I think it is pretty decent since i can now listen to my songs in my truck. I give it four stars.

Summary: the 'state of the art' is lacking
Review: Though I have not done an extensive amount of research, it appears that this device is 'the state of the art' with regard to what is available. If that is the case, then I am going to wait for further innovations.

For the most part the device functions well, but there are some serious glitches. Foremost among them is the anti-skip technology. Even brisk walking is likely to make the Rio Volt skip and 'stop'. So, if you have any illusions of using it while exercising, forget it. Also, the device has a lot 'programability'...so much so that it can be complicated to keep straight how to perform simple functions, like repeat play, etc. Also, the Rio Volt often makes 'mistakes', such as displaying the incorrect information when a tune is playing. In short, it does function as a reasonable MP3/CD player, but it is prone to skipping, complicated controls and glitches. I returned it after experiencing these limitations. I will await the release of products with better anti-skip technology.

Summary: Would not work for CD-Rs that PC tested OK
Review: Big expectations, poor results. The unit played audio CDs just fine (so it was working) and I was able to upgrade successfully to the 2.0 software. BUT it would not reliably play any MP3 CD-R I put in the unit (CD-Rs that worked just fine in multiple PCs / multiple CD-ROM drives).

If there are more than 255 tracks it gets totally confused. I wasted several CD-Rs - burning them with 1, 10, 100 tracks - no luck. The unit would crash and reset continually.

Had to return the unit - first return to eBay. Recommendation - try in a store before you buy.

Summary: Works great
Review: This CD player is great. When I got it I burnt a CD and tried is but there were problems: the player would stop in the middle of a song or not play it at all. The reason is my CD-R that is pretty bad. But I did a new CD on another CD burner and it works great.

Summary: The Best. Dont screw with the others.
Review: This MP3 player works great. I bought it specifically for my car; to replace a 6 year old sony cd walkman. This player never once skipped on me after a full week of use (10 hrs). Oh.. and I drive a 4x4 with a fairly stiff ride. Here's what i used for the CD: TDK 700MB CD-R (rated for 16x) Memorex 2x2x6 CDRW (written at 2x speed <-- key) Adaptec Easy CD Creator I got 164 songs on this CD in 12 Directories. The great thing about this player, is that it can shuffle inside a directory or it can shuffle the whole CD. Also, it has upgradeable firmware, so when new features come out, you get to use them.

There is one thing that is bad about it... They can't tell me what cigarette power adapter to use. I am sure there is one out there somewhere, but don't expect them to know.
