Summary: truly amazing....
Review: i've never really been into mp3 and the whole free music/napster stuff but i just bought one of these Rio Volt players the other day and i can't say enough good things about it! i still don't have the time (really the connection speed) to get into the downloads but this player has greatly consolidated my CD collection. i only really listen to a few CDs that i keep in my car and i converted them over to WMA (highest quality) and was able to get 83 songs on one CD with room to spare! even better, i was toying around and got 87 songs in mp3 format for less than 100MB! i opted for the WMA because i was able to get the highest quality conversion there. this is a great instrument and even better is the "line out" jack. i've got an AUX jack on the face of my car CD player so all i have to do is connect the two via a cord and i'm set for a long road trip. i was even able to still use the remote control with the line out. as far as skips, i accidentally took a speed bump and it didn't even skip. as the person before said, it stops spinning the CD once the song is loaded! i'm having a ball with this thing if you can't tell...buy one before they're gone. they guy at best buy said he was having trouble keeping them in stock. i shopped for it one day and came home to do my research on it and went back the next...only 4 of the 20 or so were left! 5 stars all the way!

Summary: Like nothing you have ever experianced!
Review: Really, you could sum this whole product up in 1 word, unbelievable. But since Amazon.com discourages 1-word summarys, I'll go into it a little deeper. As soon as I opened the box, I knew that I would love it. I popped in the batteries, and the easily readable backlit screen blew me away. It has a remote, so you can more easily operate it, like when you are carying it in your pocket. It switches the EQ from normal to Jazz to Rock to Classic and to (my favorite) ultra bass. It will make you ears shake if you turn up the volume! Another plus is the handy carrying case, which is nice, if you value this products long life. Yet another thing that amazed me was that it could hold up to 20 HOURS of mp3's! Yeah, I had (the now near-extinct) Napster, and I have downloaded a ton of songs, and I could fit ALL of them on this. Really, think about it, 20 hours, thats almost a day! For those long Car rides for vacations, this little guy is a must have. The shape is cool too, it's less than an inch thick and shaped in a near circle so you don't have so much excess space. The cd player is great for 1 major reason, IT IS SKIP FREE!!!! You can also program it to shuffle the songs, program and sequence. Ok, lets go over this again -Nice shape -Easily Readable Screen -Loads of different settings -Remote -20 hours of mp3/wma -Carrying case -Earphones -Software. This product is better than anything else on the market, including price. There is 1 problem with it though, learning how to figure out how to use it is a bit tricky... Other that that, this is an exelent product and highly recomend it to everyone.

Summary: The Best Of Both Worlds
Review: This is the best of both worlds! Cd's and mp3's together in one easy to use unit. The layout and familarity of the design will be accessible to anyone who has ever played a cd, and the software will have you making your own mega-mixes in no time. Excellent buy, excellent toy, only caveat is that there is no car kit made by the manufacturer, so you have to buy one from another company separately, and the power jack has a little trouble fitting into the unit correctly, but overall, I would recommend it.

Summary: I love my Rio Volt!
Review: I've been looking into MP3/CD players since they first appeared about two years ago. The early models were crude and often manufactured by little no-name companies. Plus, I couldn't find one that offered all of the features that I wanted... Early models were very limited in their capabilities. Finally, out came the Rio Volt. It was supposed to do it all, but I had my doubts. I was very pleased when everything worked exactly the way it was supposed to right out of the box. The unit has functioned flawlessly and the firmware upgrades are a HUGE bonus over many similar products. As for skipping, I'm not the best person to ask. I don't take mine jogging or mountain biking. However, it doesn't seem to skip when walking (carried in my hand) or when used in the car (sitting on my lap or in the seat beside me). I don't really know why so many people gripe about the carrying case. It works well as you can disable the buttons on the player (with the "hold" switch), put it into the case, and use the remote to control things while you listen. This works well for me and keeps my Rio Volt from getting scratched. I can stick it in my bag with just the remote and earphones hanging out. Sound quality is very good. I can't tell any difference between my computer (connected to my stereo system) or my Rio Volt (connected to the same system). I bought the Rio Volt for about $... (after tax) at CompUSA, used it for a week, and loved it. Then, I returned it... Why? I got it from Amazon.com for less (I saved over $... for those of you not good at math). The price seems to have gone up though since I bought it in mid-June (July 11th 2001, it's listed at $... on Amazon.com). Maybe this is because EVERYBODY is buying Rio Volts and loving them (supply and demand). The only thing I have found to complain about is that the ID3 information scrolls a bit slowly. However, I'm sure that they will put an option to control the scrolling speed in a future firmware release like they added the user customizable EQ setting in the last firmware release (like I said, the firmware is cool). I don't think that the Rio Volt is the best MP3/CD player that will ever be made. I just think that, after extensive research, it is the best one on the market right now. Plus, it's less expensive than some similar, but inferior, players are. It even came with brand-name batteries (Duracell), not some cheap brand I've never heard of with foreign characters all over them. Long story short, it's a great product...

Summary: BAD CD player....GOOD MP3 player
Review: Let me preface this by saying this is (probably) the best available portable MP3-CD player out there right now. In that case, I'm waiting until something better comes along. I had no problems with skipping at all, and the features and firmware upgrade were fine with me. In fact, everthing worked great and I would have given the player 5 stars....BUT, I was using this in my car in place of an old AIWA portable CD player that used a cassette adapter. The sound quality comparing the two was a definite downgrade. Bass was definitely lacking, and this includes using regular store bought CDs, not just MP3s. I compared the 2 w/ the same CD and there was a substantial difference in sound quality. I'm not about to compromise sound quality for quantity!! But, if you're not an audiophile like me, than it probably is a good purchase. I still want to be able to play regular CDs at equal or better quality then my last CD player. If anybody knows of such a player, e-mail me and let me know!!

Summary: It just keeps getting better and better ...
Review: How many audio players evolve new capabilities the longer you keep them? I've had my Rio for several months now and have upgraded the software twice through the Diamond web site (from version 1.0 to the current 2.0). What started as a great player that plays virtually any audio disc format continues to improve -- adding more equalizer and volume settings, and "navigation" options, and smoothing out the transition between tracks, especially on "random" play (my favorite mode!). This player is so cool that I have nearly abandoned all my other CD players, preferring instead to convert audio tracks to MP3 format and compiling 10+ hours of favorite music onto single discs that I can play through headphones, or through my car CD player (great for long drives), or even through my home stereo (using a line-out jack WITH volume control). Tracks can be organized, grouped, and played as albums (directories), or played randomly several different ways. It's like having a portable 15 disc CD changer that fits in your hand and uses a single CD-sized disc to accomdate the same amount of content. It looks sleek, the sound is great, the battery life is adequate, and the remote control is handy for portable use. And if you find minor shortcomings to quibble with (although I can't think of any off-hand), just wait for the next software upgrade to be posted and maybe they'll be addressed in the next enhancement. With the Rio's 'upgradable-ness', finally one doesn't have to dread the "next year's model" envy that so often develops OH-SO-quickly with favorite, frequently-used electronic devices. That, in itself, should be well-worth the extra few bucks that the Rio may cost over competing models.

Review: This is a good CD/MP3 player but even with the 120 sec anti-skip feature it still skips. If you are planning to use it for running, you'll get frustrated by having to stop your run so that the CD will resume play.

Summary: Wow - Glad I finally found this device
Review: I bought the Memorex player first and it was a total piece of chirping, skipping doo-doo. I returned it and bought the Rio Volt. I put the same CD that was giving the Memorex player fits into the Rio and it played just great. What a smart little device. It starts playing the MP3 player while reading it into memory and once in memory, it spins down the CD to conserve battery power. Shuffle works well. They could've done a lot more with the LCD screen instead of wasting space on that stupid dancer icon. The graphic designer that thought that one up should be fired. Otherwise a perfectly designed little toy. I love it.

Review: This is the best CD player money can buy. I'm 13 and I own one and it is the best purchase I have ever made. Its upgradable, MP3 and WMA compatable. You will not be sorry, Have a CD burner? Great! I created 15 hours of music on one CD! CD-RW capable is great! Don't like the mix you made? Erase it a try again. Time and money saver.
