Summary: Wouldn't work in the car
Review: I got this for my car after my Phillips started stalling out on me. But this one wouldn't work with the 4.5V car power adapter from that player or another adapter I bought for it. I don't understand because it DID work with the AC adapter which (obviously) uses the same jack. They should have charged me a couple more bucks and included (and thereby included in the warranty) a car kit that was designed for the unit. I didn't want to fuss with it anymore so I just returned it. I would gladly pay [price]for a good reliable portable mp3 cd player. When will I find one?

Summary: So far, still the best disc-based player
Review: With its upgradeable firmware, the RioVolt has overcome many problems reported by its users, including me. Over just the first six months that it has been available, the firmware has gotten steadily more reliable and robust. I use mine all the time at work with a few sets of 1800maH lithium-ion rechargeable batteries, and I play a singe CD-RW all day long with just one charge. I can't say enough good things about the RioVolt.

Summary: Great Product; but could use improvements
Review: I thought the Rio Volt was a great product, however I have some things I'd like to address that could be improved. 1. The case is not good, you can't view the lcd through a leather case without a window 2. The remote is not adequet to go with the features; it could use a lcd on the remote that tells the eq and which song etc. 3. The abbreviations for modes and other things could definately be improved so they can be read easier 4. Whats with the annoying dancing person; whats the point of it; if it is going to be kept in a future release, why not change it so it goes with the music beat or change it to a scope or other visualization Other than that it is the best mp3 player I have seen from the various ones I have used.

Summary: Pretty darned close to perfect
Review: I bought the Rio Volt for a road trip, and as an inexpensive .mp3 addon to my home stereo system.

If you buy one, go get the firmware update from ...as soon as you open the box. The unit is wonky as heck with 1.0 firmware, and solid+reliable with 2.0+ firmware.

Plusses: Lightweight, effective, versatile, awesome sound quality. Overall a good value for dollars spent.

Negatives: Cheap feeling, battery door flies open, sub-optimal navigation between folders.

Oh, and I HATE the little dancing people on the bottom of the display. If they could not save us some screen real estate for better title listings, why not include an option to turn the goofy little people off?

In short, I did my research before buying the Volt, and it looks liek the best game in town right now. If they enhance the build quality, the Volt will be a show-stopper.

Summary: Great, with a few problams
Review: I love this unit and i used it all the time. I was able to fill a cdr with up to 380 (wma)songs. Yet, this unut has some problams: 1. It's built very poorly, my friend has the same unit and it broke from falling off a chiar and his replacement unit just didn't spin at all. 2. It dosn't read some types of cdrw's, it didn't read my cheap crw's, only the branded one's. 3. When i plug my unit with the DC adaptor it can only play Audio cd's and not mp3 cd's.... Overall this is a great unit that is well priced.

Summary: This little baby it' s hot!
Review: Ok, just don't dear to think more, just buy it, is you best opotunity to have a 100% good pice of technology. imagine I just put a 152 songs in one CD in 10 diferent albuns, and I can browse to find the one that I want, the only 2 things that I see is 1 that is fragil and 2 the [rotten] software that comes with it, that actually you do not need

Summary: Broke after one month
Review: Rio Volt broke after one month. We took the Rio Volt on vacation, it worked fine, but when we got home the CD's wouldn't spin. It suffered no abuse whatsoever. I have been trying to get in touch with SonicBlue for 6 weeks, so far no luck. I talked to one individual on the phone, he said they would email me and send a box to return the Rio Volt in. That was three weeks ago. Nothing. Sonic Blue appears to be avoiding us. so for now all I have is a broken mp3 player that cost a fair amount of money.

Summary: Awesome Mp3 Player
Review: This is my second choice of MP3 players. I went with the cheap one first and was extremely disappointed in the performance. I returned it the same night that I received it. The RIOVOLT was my second choice and from the moment that I open the package and started to use the player it has performed flawlessly. The controls are easy to use. It plays all of my MP3 files that I have with ease. The other player couldn't even recognize 90% of the files on my cd-rom. Diffently worth the money. I like the remote that comes with it. I use my player at work and carry it in a case making the controls on the player hard to get to. Not with the remote. I am really delighted with this player and would recommend it to anyone. Lesson learned. Cheap is what you get. Spend the extra and get a top quality player. The RIOVOLT is just that.

Summary: The Best Out There
Review: I have had the Rio Volt for probably four months now and simply love it. Even when I first got it at the lowest firmware version, it was still great. The things like the pauses between songs and the low volume have been solved in the latest firmware version. It plays all my regular cd's as wellas my mp3 cd's without a problem. I've never got it to skip in the four months of owning it and that includes me taking it practically everywhere. The navigation is easy to use once you get used to it. Also, about everyone saying it has a flimsy design, I've dropped it twice pretty good and it still played the cd without pause. I think this is a quality product for mp3 lovers and anyone who has a lot of music. To me it was a much better purchase than those little mp3 players that boast 1 hour of music and cost twice as much. I belive the Rio Volt is the way to go.

Summary: What a great player!
Review: Rio's Volt portable CD player is an excellent buy and will likely continue to be useful for years to come as musical formats change in the ever evolving digital music market. To me the greatest ability is to play MP3 files write off the CD-R. Last night I burned 192 MP3's onto one CD-R, the Rio Volt plays them all exceptionally well and that will serve me well for a long trip. The manual is well detailed and the whole system is very intuitive!
