Summary: A good CD player
Review: Despite the criticisms on the other reviews I've found the ESP2 shock protection works pretty well. To be fair to Sony, they do say somewhere in the blurb that it's not suitable for jogging. I've just tried giving it a fairly good shaking and it won't skip. Perhaps there were problems with earlier versions or something? It's small, light, and yep the case will mark fairly easily, but it sounds good and for me the sound it produces is the most important thing. I ditched the supplied phones and got something better (for my taste) but your mileage may vary

Summary: COOLEST Cd-Player In THE UNIVERSE
Review: I bought this CD player in Japan 2 years ago (D-E800) it is exactly like the American version, except with circular buttons. I was first thrilled with it; it was the smallest CD player at the time, and the remote control was just sweet. A few months later I began to notice some faults. It constantly skips, scratches my CDs, and drains batteries (about 20 batteries). After only a year on one night of CD music listening, my Discman just suddenly stopped working! Putting in fresh batteries didn't help, neither did a trip to the electrician.

I now have abandoned the Discman and bought the latest Panasonic SL-SX510, which is even smaller and thinner than the Discman, comes with an external battery case for a total of 43 hours of play, and 40 seconds of anti-skip for virtual skip-free play. The Panasonic was made in Japan, the Discman is made in Malaysia (mine was).

If my rants and criticisms fail to convince you of not buying this Discman, I have to warn you of its aluminum case. It is very scratchable, so placing the Discman in a protective bag will keep it scratch-free, if not skip free. The Panasonic also has an aluminum cover, so be careful with that also.

Overall this product is attractive and will catch a lot of looks (some kid once tried to steal the Discman out of my hands as I was walking down the street!) but the quality of the product is questionable.

Summary: Beautiful model, low quality. But the Panasonic SL-SX510.

Summary: I was really dissapointed with sony for this
Review: I have been a long time supporter of sony electronics products. I like to think that they are among the best and whenever I buy some new electronics stuff I try to purchase a sony product, that was my thinking when I bought this player from sony. It worked great for about five minutes, then it didn't work at all, so I sent it back, got the exchange and the new one was better. It lasted for about sixty days, then it died. I tried to exchange it, but it was too late, past the stores policy or whatever so I took it to my local repair guy. At this point I have had to buy a new laser, a new motor, and god knows what else, but it still doesn't work. I have spend over 400 dollars to keep this thing running and have finally given up. PLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS CD PLAYER!

Summary: Too fragile.
Review: In appearance this Discman is really cool, I mean, it looks great, and the remote control is wonderful, but it is by no means perfect, and it should be, for the price.
I got one for christmas, as did my brother. We like to carry it in our backpacks while we go to classes. Well, it seems that they are VERY fragile, because in a year or so, mine got kinda busted, would not read past the 8th track, give or take... and my brother's got totally busted, not working at all. That means that you must take TOO good a care for them, because other discmans have survived the backpack treatment fine...
Also, the cable separating the headphones and remote control is WAY too short (you have to see it to believe it), but that does not matter so much, because the headphones sound SO bad, you'll want to buy some new ones as soon as you can.
Would I recommend it? No. You can get one without so much shock protection but all the other bells & whistles much cheaper, and if you do want shock protection and to carry it with you on the go, buy another one, this one will die on you faster than an American private at D-Day.

Summary: Great options, sound and size!
Review: Once you get past the awesome sound this Sony pumps out you are entertained with all the extras on this baby. The remote control unit supplied for this unit is top notch and comes in so handy when you are doing some serious music listening!

Summary: great show but little substance
Review: the size is nice and the package is very attractive as are the sound options...however the ESP2 protection is still far from being reliable, this unit only has skip protection if you are walking very slowly and carrying the unit in your hand...try carrying it in your bag or walking fast with it and you get something that skips more than a delirious pre-adolescent...very unsatisfying...

Summary: Great product except where it counts.
Review: The styling and features of this model are top-notch. However, even the slightest movement and it skips (and skips and skips), making it impossible to walk with. My girlfriend has the D-E705 which takes some serious effort to make it skip. Do yourself a favor, buy a Sony, just not this model.
