Summary: A Pretty Good Discman from Sony
Review: I recently bought this, and I think its pretty good but not worth $120. The skip-protection and controls/remote are great, however there are several problems. First, the included carrying looks great - but it makes it a big hassle to change CD's. Also, the headphones included cant use the bass features of the discman well, and hurt after wearing them for a while (usually the sound is great though). So if I were you, I would go all out with the 815 or 915 or spend less money on another discman.

Summary: From a Woman's Perspective
Review: Likes: Easy to "palm" the cd in the carrying case as you do your evening walk. It NEVER skips. Never. That G-Protection seems to work like a charm! Working the controls is fairly easy from theremote... The sound is great and plenty loud for me. Good bass. Dislikes: I can't imagine ever turning the G-Protection "off", but if you want to, the switch is well hidden under the lid. For all you walkers out there, try "Hooked on Classics" (from K-tel believe it or not) as fantastic walking music! It's got that continuous beat pounding in the background...

Review: man all i got to say is it kicks so much ass

Summary: outstanding value and sound
Review: Many people pass on this model because the remote on the headphone wire has no digital display...which is too bad because most of the other wired remotes are so hefty that they have to be clipped on to your shirt or jacket or they'll dangle and pull the headphones down. The wired remote on this model has no display, this is true, but the advantage is that it is practically weightless, it's a tiny piece a little larger than a quarter that has all the basic remote functions...fantastic...

three other big advantages to this model:

(a) It can CD-R's better than most other Sony models (most of them have a terrible time reading CD-R's)

(b)It takes up only a few millimeters more in space than the top of the line model sony puts out right now.

(c) It has more battery life than most of the other Sony portables

Of course the sound is the typical sound you expect from Sony models, full rich bass, sweet high's and all the other good stuff.

Summary: Good,Bad
Review: This CD player is a great investment for people who want a CD player that is easily concealable and has the look of a elegant piece of space craft. The included wired remote and rechargeable batteries also add a little bit of punch to the obverall value of this player and also add to the extremely high price! Don't get me wrong I love this CD player and the sound quality is alright(if you want sound quality and deep bass with no distortion, go with a RCA cd player)but it just cost too much and could have been cheaper. The included rechargeable batteries lasted me for about 8 hours of playback and the remote comes in handy when I put the CD player in my bookbag, but for $20 more get the D-EJ815 which comes with a backlit LCD screen on the CD player and remote for night playback, although it does not come with the street style headphones. The D-EJ815 also has the longest battery life of any other CD player available to this date which is an estimated 72 hours.

Summary: Make your choice
Review: This CD player might well please you. It has a very nice dark gray glossy finish if you're concerned about its appearance. The LCD is not back-lit, unfortunately. It has a separate remote control that plugs into the player and you can use any headphones with this remote that have a mini plug. This remote doesn't have an LCD display. There is an "MD link" (optical out) which can be used to connect the player directly to a Mini Disk recorder. Can be pretty useful. It also serves as an analog out. You will need to purchase both optical and "Y" cables separately. It also has a very nice carrying case. I liked it. It comes with a couple of "AA" size rechargeable batteries that the player can recharge when they get low. The battery compartment is on the outside and doesn't produce an impression of a sturdy one. ( It would have been better if they had it inside so that the batteries wouldn't have a risk of accidentally falling out of the player.) I personally never got 32 hours of play. Probably around 10 or so. For you to get that long playback you would need to play CDs continuously, that is without stopping, skipping songs and random or program play. This would be true to any CD player, in fact. Otherwise it has quite a long playback, compared to other players The player produces a beep sound when you use its functions. Very annoying, but the good news is that it's possible to turn it off, after a somewhat tricky procedure. When you stop the player and press play again it will only start playing from the same spot and not from the very beginning. It's not possible to cancel this function. However, most of the time it's a useful thing. The player doesn't have direct track access - would be great if they do that one day. I guess everything has to be pretty primitive in case of portables. Even more expensive versions don't have that. I was not very impressed with its Mega Bass sound when listening through the headphones (good ones, not the ones that come with the player). It has a two-step Mega Bass. I personally found it impossible to use the second level of Mega Bass - too much distortion, the bass is rather bloated. I was unpleasantly surprised. There are not enough highs (this is just my personal opinion) - as if you're listening to a poorly recorded audiocassette. I was always wondering why couldn't they design some sort of an equalizer on players. Would that be too complicated? I'd like to decide for myself what sound I want. However, the sound is excellent when you connect the player to outside equipment such as an amplifier. In this case I was impressed. But it doesn't help when you use it for it's primary purpose - as a portable. If you'd like to sacrifice a few bucks for a back-lit LCD and an LCD equipped remote with extra functions as well as for a longer battery life (thanks to an additional battery pack) then choose model 815 or 915.

Summary: Too bad it broke
Review: This CD player was wonderful...until it broke. I was overseas at the time listening as usual to a CD on the metro when all of a sudden the music stopped. I took the player out of my bag and opened it. To my total shock and surprise the little plastic ring you snap the CD onto was in pieces. How strange is that? Nothing else was wrong with the player, only the fact that I could no longer secure the CD to be played. Since I wasn't in America I could not use its warranty which is only one year after the purchase date and this incident happened eleven months after anyway. After that, I bought a minidisc player which was stolen in Istanbul four months after I bought it. So now I have an iPod which is wonderful so far although transferring the music to it hasn't been going all that fast. Good luck.

Summary: Good player, but way too costly to replace batteries
Review: This has been a decent player for me. But after about 6 months of playing my batteries no longer take a charge. I was told that 6 months is the approximate life span of these batteries. I needed to order replacements from Sony service. The result: $... for TWO batteries. That is 25% of the cost of a brand new one. Absolutely RIDICULOUS!

Review: well i had this walkman till about a month ago when it got stolen. :( this walkman is a great buy, after like 2 years or less it still worked great. this walkman has great sound quality better than more newer versions of sony walkmans ive listened to. the g-protection works great, it continues playing even when you drop to a concrete floor from a high height. batterys last long in them and it plays burned cd's. the headphones that come with them arent that great so i suggest buying better one's for it. i might just consider buying it again it was that good :)
