Summary: A reliable cd/mp3 player
Review: I originally wanted a 20gb ipod but since money was tight I decided to buy this disc player. I was brought in by the Atrac format software that would allow nearly 400 songs to fit on one single disc. Allow me to explain to you the positive and negative things about this product before you consider buying it.Positive
-It plays MP3 cds
-The Atrac format software allows up to 400 songs to be stored on one disc (depending on the song's bitrate rate)
-Jog Dial allows you to search for particular songs on the disc without having to skip through hundreds of songs
-The song titile display is a nice feature. It shows the song title, artist name, album title, and bitrate rate for each track.
-It's great on battery life. I use to Energizer AA Ni-Ca rechargable batteries and I haven't had to recharge them in a long time.
-G-Protection virtually eliminates all skipping unless your cd has tons of deep scratches all over it. You can shake the unit, turn it upside down and whatever and it still doesn't skip.
-TV/FM/AM/Weather tuner, the TV and FM/AM radio features are a great bonus to this unit. It's fairly easy to get reception. I can't tell you anything about the Weather tuner though since I hardly use it. Negatives
-I would prefer it that the max volume of the unit were louder. You can hardly hear it in extremely noisy and crowded places.
-I hate the cheap headphones that come with the player. I recommend you get the street style headphones that wrap around your ear
-This last negative is my biggest problem with the unit. It has to do with the Atrac format software. When you have a lot of mp3s stored on your computers (more than 1,000), the software will freeze for about 5 minutes after you start it up in order to load your files. The other problem with the Atrac software is this: I like using it to save several full albums on one disc but sometimes errors come up and some songs are left off the cd. This can be very annoying at times. Other than that the software is ok. Overall I recommend you purchase this unit if an ipod isn't in your best financial interest at the moment. It's very reliable and will last for a long time. The Pros outweigh the cons as you can see so get it...

Summary: Good player, but not for the gym!
Review: I owned this player for just a few days before returning it. It was a decent player, EXCEPT for one thing - The Play/Stop/Skip Back/Skip Foward button is the size of a quarter! Yep, all four controls are on one small single button! This made the player impossible to accurately control while running on the treadmill at the gym. (I was pausing while trying to skip forward, etc) So - if you're into burning music onto CDs and will never need to control the unit while running - This might be for you. But if you need a good player for the gym - Check out the Phillips AZT3202. It works great and is less than half the price of this player!

Summary: Good CD Player, But Has Some Flaws
Review: I recommend this cd player. One thing that irritates me is when I burn an MP3 cd, it ocassionaly comes up with the song ID and then doesn't play it. It then skips to the next song. Another thing that irritates me is when I place an MP3 disc into the cd player and close the lid, it takes forever to load the disc, and it makes a lot of noise while it's doing it.

Summary: A great CD player
Review: I think most of the reviews here on this item are right on, so I'll just add a few things I thought. I find this MP3/CD player convenient enough that I feel hard-disk MP3 players aren't worth the high price. MP3 files don't really sound as good as real CD's. For a while I've been only listening to MP3's, but after switching to CD's again, I don't feel like going back (though they do have their up's too). This CD player has a very, very long battery life --- I don't have to keep recharging batteries like most other electronic devices these days. It's rather compact and light, and not fragile. A few negatives: the sounds are not as configurable (no equalizer, its mega bass system isn't as good --- see other reviews); there are only two playing modes --- shuffle and single song modes with no repeat feature, so you cannot let it keep playing; the radio/tv mode often starts even the unit is put on hold (it's so easy to accidentally press the "on" button for radio --- I don't know why hold doesn't work here); the navigator pad is a bit small; and the headphone that comes with the unit totally sucks (with a bit of bass the sounds will be distorted all the time...just buy a better one yourself). But even with all the cons I'm pretty happy with it. To me the long battery life itself is quite appealing...it doesn't deliver the best sounds (for which you should look elsewhere) but is still a great CD/MP3 walkman.

Summary: YAAAYYYYY!!!
Review: I've been through numerous CD/MP3/Radio players including by Panasonic & Classic. Sony finally got it right. It's realitvely slim, got G-shock skip protection, great batttery life, MP3 tags, really fast searches, and a decent radio (AM & FM, not that common). It even has NOAA weather which I've never seen on any other player. Sound quality is excellent (the Panasonic had low headphone levels and the Classic had chronic hiss), and you don't even need the included software to burn a MP3 with Mac computers (take that, Bill Gates!). The only drawback I could find was that if you wanted to use the jog shuttle, it always starts at the top of the disc, not from where you are at the moment. It's a minor drag. But for the money, it's the best player I've seen, PERIOD.

Summary: No VBR, but solid choice
Review: I've had it for one day, and so far its been solid. Jog starts from the beginning everytime you hit a different control, which is annoying. Some of the button functions are pretty odd, and I wish the LCD is bigger to accomodate the ID3 tag display. Size is okay, could be smaller, but its not incredibly thick so thats OK. For MP3 buffs, it doesn't do VBR so thats a big minus. I don't have as muany vbrs as I thought, otherwise I might have to return it. It's got solid AM/FM/TV/weather radio, so thats a big plus. Overall the sound quality is slightly below par, though I'm not a very good judge and it is probably due to the poor headphones. its not too hot if you don't care for AM. But if you do, like me, there's not too many other options out there.

Summary: Great MP3/ATRAC3 Player!!!
Review: I've owned 2 players and when I bought this one I feel the diference, and besides Its a Sony, what else could you say. The only problem is the headphones, but you buy a greater ones, and the sound quality rises. The best of it is the G-Protection and the battery life, I have never had a skip, the battery life I've been using it for 3 weeks!! and I have not changed them. That's all...........

Summary: A great choice in a CD/MP3 player
Review: Ive been looking for an MP3/CD player for sometime, and nothing seemed to fit just right. There are several less expensive models out there, but they were not as impressive as this one. And it has AM/FM, Weather, and TV reception - a great bonus!
It was a breeze to make a data CD organized by artist and style. I popped it into the Sony, and was listening to music in a few seconds. Over 160 songs (with room to spare)!
I left it playing continuously at work for over three days before the batteries were used up (over 30 hours). The sound quality is pretty good with the supplied headphones, but a premium set of phones really improves the sound. My other CD player (also a Sony) chews up a set of batteries every 2-3 hours...
A lot features are packed into a very small package, so reading the manual is highly recommended to get up and running quickly. If I had to find any 'nits' with the product, including an AC adapter would be good.
All and all, a great product... I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a combo mp3/cd player!

Review: let's get the negatives out of the way: a)the standard headphones dump as fast as you can. trash is to kind of a word to describe this item. replace it with a quality set and the sound will literally come alive and is excellent. b) the battery compartment is inside the unit. you must remove a cd to replace the batteries. try doing this while jogging; it's annoying. my panasonic unit has an external compartment which is easy to access and you won't drop a cd replacing batteries. c) the 2 position bass boost provides too much in the 1st and over kill in the 2nd position. sony should have done a better job on this. d) i gave up trying to figure out the jog dial and will never use atrac. mp3 allows well over 100 songs per cd. that's plenty
for me. why use atrac? you can't play back this type of encoded cd on any other unit. that's it for the bad comments; here are the good points: a) great am radio. i pull in la/sfo/and other distant stations at night from phoenix without any problems. it's sensativity has surprised me. fm is no slouch either with good reception on even weak stations. b) the weather band and tv bands are an added bonus. there are still a few years yet to use the tv band. it's good until uhf hdtv replaces it. c) the button controls and on/off, cd function oval takes just a moment to learn. they are easy and the beep function is actually useful when using the cd controls for forward & reverse. i am amazed sony was able to pack so much into this unit. d) the eveready bunny rabbit can now join the maytag repairman in retirement. the battery life is incredible plus there is even a battery indicator on the lcd to read battery power levels. get a set or two of metal hydrides and you'll never need to buy batteries again. e) awesome sound quality even with mp3 playbacks. overall, this is a superb unit with lots of frills. it lives up to the name "sony".

Summary: Great portable CD player
Review: Sony's D-NF610 slim CD "walkman" is an excellent personal audio companion. It's similar to its sibling D-NF510, except the NF610 has a digital tuner that pulls in AM/FM/TV and special weather channels, all in a compact, stylish form factor. Assembled in Malaysia (a country known for its anti-American politics -- hence one star deducted from my rating), the player seems pretty reliable. The weird shape is not as cool as Sony's perfectly round models, but it does allow for a larger, 2-line LCD display which, yeah!, can show MP3 tags. Another impressive feature is the 75-hour playback on two regular AA batteries. Sound quality is good if nothing to get overly excited about. As always, you may want to replace the included headphones with your own favorite. On a good pair of earphones, the "digital mega bass" boost adds a pleasant and clear boom to the music, so you know this is not a phony, irritating bass system typically found on the Coby's and Samsung's. The player also plays CD-R/RW discs burned with MP3 files or Sony's proprietary ATRAC3 files. Sony makes all kinds of claims regarding ATRAC3, but since 95% of the world uses MP3 and another 3% uses WMA and the rest probably AAC, I see little reason to burn ATRAC3 discs. Finally, the price is right for a high-quality portable CD player.
