Summary: nice buy - but, probably an issue with canon toolbox appz.
Review: finally I decided buying canoscan 3200F unit. I believe that other positive comments on its very good results on photo
scanning although I have not tried it yet on the unit. Anyway, it is fast performance and nice style.
Negative:
1- Regarding text scan results, absolutely not really clear & sharp as expected; a workaround probably is with scanning at high resolution and have printouts at scaled down (smaller character size) size to have it looked good enough.
2- So far, after have used for a while to make copies of multi-pages (a hundreds) into pdf format with "canon toolbox 4.5" application (came with the package), on my box, it was unbelievable that the app could not survive from a error of not enough hdd space to save scans, but displayed error msg and terminated "abnormally". I lost hours of scanning hundreds of pages into pdf and all'v gone by that BS. I had to delete files to make room and redone the tedious and time consumming task. Hope canon will have a fix on this soon if it is really an issue and others can confirm this issue. (my hardwares configuration is not a matter - amd xp 1700, 756mb ram,...)

Summary: PRACTICAL, , DOES IT ALL, TASKS
Review: FOR THE PERSON WHO DOES TEXT, PHOTOS, COPIES FRON BOOKS AND IN A HURRY, DOES NOT WANT TO INVEST IN A EXPENSIVE SCANNER. THEN THIS IS IT ,EASY TO SET UP AND EASIER TO USE. TYPICAL OF CANNON PRODUCTS.

Summary: I Love This Scanner!
Review: I bought this scanner primarily to be used to scan old photos and negatives, but also wanted the occassional document to be crisp and clear. I have been thrilled with my results so far. The photo correction (during the scan) does a wonderful job of clearing up the effects of aging although it did tend to add a bit of blue to the "true" colors of the photos. I have a separate photo enhancement software package that I use as I don't think the software included with the scanner is adequate for my purposes.
Documents scan well and I LOVE that you can save it as a text document! The scan speed is great too--even at 1200ppi!
A wonderful scanner and a bargain for the price!

Summary: Quality beyond the price
Review: I used Canoscan D1250U2 before. Not bad but it didn't make me like it. Speed is not quick enough although it use USB 2.0. Instead, Canoscan 3200F is a huge improvement from D1250U2. The time to scan reduced more than half! An also very quiet. I can't believe I spend only around 90 dollars for the stylish scanner.

The bundled software Canoscan Toolbox is a must have. It comes with an auto mode. Which mean that it will automatically detect the size of object you want to scan and scan accordingly. I don't know the detail it does but whatever I put into scanner, push the button, it starts to scan without any human intervention. After a few seconds, it finishs scan and delivers the image to application you preset. So simple! That's what I want! A smart machine! You don't need to tweak the DPI or adjust scan area, and crop image any more. The scanner do the hard work. And the quality of the scan in auto mode may be better than tuning by youself.

Summary: Works great with Mac OS X
Review: I've tried a lot of scanners with my Powerbook (Epson, HP, UMAX and Canon) - NONE of them worked as well or as fast as this one. For all you Mac people out there, you know how hard it can be to find software and hardware that works fluidly, especially with OS X. I've scanned photos, slides and negatives and had great results with all three. I highly recommend this product.

Summary: A must have for amateur photographers
Review: If you are like me and have switched to a digital camera and have some old negatives and prints that you would like to incorporate in your electronic presentations, this is a perfect scanner. The quality is comparable to my old print film and it brings to new life old pictures. Agree completely with the reviewers who recommend Photoshop or Elements to work with the scanner. The start-up guide could have been more informative, but I played with it a bit and no problem.

Summary: I Love This Scanner!
Review: This scanner does alot for the money. Scans film, slides etc...
Image quality is very good for a scanner that costs a little over $100.00. Especially good skin tones and smoothness. Scans come out sharp and require no "fixing". Software installed easily and works trouble-free in Windows XP Pro. This thing is FAST. I Like the programmable buttons on the scanner. Like the scanner driver software.

I have mine set to the "quiet mode". This slows down the preview just a bit (still quite speedy) which seems to improve how the scanner self-adjusts the color, brightness and sharpness due to a higher quality preview image. Strangely, it doesn't seem to make the scanner any quieter though!!! (Which is OK because it's hardly noisy) Maybe they should have called it "high quality" mode instead of "quiet mode".

Only weakness is the photo editing software included. Buy this scanner if you already have good photo software, or are willing to buy it. (Paint Shop Pro, Adobe Photoshop Elements) I opened one of my photos with the included software and printed it. The print looked a little weak compared to what I get when printing from any other photo program I have. Even the built-in Windows photo viewer.

All-in-all, a steal for the money if you don't mind the skimpy software bundle. Great image quality and features for the money.

Summary: Quality beyond the price
Review: This scanner does just about everything. The photo, film, and slide scanning is great. However, scanning text is a problem. You can barley read it. However, the software that is included can actually read text and transfer it into a text document to be edited. Also, the image editing software that comes with the scanner isn't very good. I would recomend getting Adobe Photoshop Elements for $100. It is well worth the price. To wrap it up, this scanner is great if you don't mind the bad image editing software, and the bad text scanning.
