Summary: Slow, erratic paper feed
Review: We own a Canon i850 and were pleased with the price. Initially. But once we used it regularly, we found that the paper feed is erratic and we have to babysit print jobs to make sure the paper is feeding. This occurs when the paper supply is full, nearly empty and all points in between. We also find that the printer is slow and that we have problems with ink cartridges not working, even when new.

Summary: Best value for the Quality of photo
Review: For the price you can't find a better printer. Anyone who thinks to buy an HP or Lexmark should first consider the price of replacement ink cartridges before they buy. With the Canon, the price of ink cartridges are 1/3 the price and last just as long. Who cares about 50 years without fading -- within ten years paper printing will be replaced with something new anyway. This printer is quiet, fast and has remarkable picture clarity. Now the drawback - My Canon 850 printer came with an out of box failure, which took two weeks to fix at a local authorized Canon repair facility. The problem turned out to be a sensor used with the printer cover but there was more than once I thought about returning it. I'm glad I didn't because I've finally found an affordable and high quality photo printer.

Summary: The best printer that I have used
Review: I purchased a Canon I850 one or two months ago. I have found it to be excellent in all respects. It is both extremely fast and quiet, and it has been perfectly reliable and trouble-free. I am also very satisfied with the quality of photographs and text. I use it for general home use, but have printed out very large raster graphics (50 mb+?) from ArcView with excellent results. The input and output trays also fold quickly and easily for transport. Consumer Reports has rated a different Canon photo printer (that uses the same cartridges) as having relatively low (for an ink-jet) per page costs, so it should be affordable to run. I have used up one black cartridge so far, and the printer gave me adequate warning of the "low-ink" condition. It also looks like the print head should be replaceable (it snaps in similiarly to an ink cartridge), but I have not seen them for sale. I have used "low-end" LexMark and Epson ink jet printers, and high end HP and Epson ink jet printers. So far I like this printer best of all. It cranks out the pages with much less fuss than the others that I have used. I highly recommend it.

Summary: Great Printer, and even Greater Customer Service!
Review: I bought this printer just over a month ago. In that time, I've printed out a test photo and several regular prints. As noted by so many others, the photo print was on par with what you'd get from your local 1-hour photo store or other bargain place (Costco, BJ's, CVS, etc.). My wife noticed that the flesh tones were slightly grey, but the photo was taken on an overcast day with a 1.5 megapixel digital camera and no color correction was performed before the print was made.

The quality of the printouts for text is what I'd expect from a good inkjet printer. It's definitely on par with what I get from the HP 5000DN at work. Text is sharp and crisp, no visible blurring around the edges. Do note, though, that I use heavy-weight (24lb) inkjet paper for my printouts, and from other reviews I think that plays a key role in the quality of the text printout.

The durability of the ink was proven really well by accident. I had printed out some directions, and after the event put the printout in a paper bag for recycling. When I went outside the day it was due to be picked up, the bag had tipped over in the night due to heavy wind during a rain storm. The printout had fallen onto the street and was soaked through. When I picked it up, I found that none of the ink -- black or color -- had smudged at all and the entire printout was still 100% readable.

Now the most important part of this review is how I was treated by Amazon after the purchase. Four days after I bought the printer, the price went down. I sent an e-mail to customer service and they credited me the difference the next day. Even better, I checked the price again 30 days after the purchase date, and found it had dropped significantly further. I e-mailed them again, and they once again gave me a credit the next day! No hassle, no arguments, nada! This is outstanding customer service and I think it's great that Amazon offers price protection like this! Kudos to you all, Amazon.com customer service reps!!

Summary: Great Ink Sprayer :)
Review: I read many reviews before buying this printer. This printer has more than exceeded my expectations. Quailty, Speed, Price are all amazing. I have printed approx 200 photos (4x6) and just now I have to buy a new cartridge (only 1 out of 3). Not bad!

Summary: Canon i850 is just ok
Review: When my HP 895 bit the dust, I replaced it with the Canon i850 because I liked the idea of separate ink cartridges. I've had the Canon for about a month, and so far, the cartridges are holding out. However, I'm disappointed with the photo print quality compared to my old HP. With the HP, I got true photo quality. The Canon just doesn't quite measure up. I wish I liked it better because I'm going to be using it for a long time, but the print quality just isn't there.

Summary: Great printer!
Review: I did a lot of research before purchasing this printer. Once I got it I was not disappointed. It was easy to install and setup. It works great with Windows XP. The output is sharp and clear. It prints much quicker than I anticipated.

Summary: Excellent Printer and cost effective
Review: This is an excellent printer, very good photo quality, high speed operation with minimal noise. Also, I just downloaded the latest drivers for this printer which allows it to print borderless 5x7 inch prints like the new Canon i950 printer, which has 6 ink cartridges. The i850 uses 4 ink cartridges.

Summary: Awesome printer from Canon!!!
Review: This is a very reliable printer to use with a Mac running OS X (10.2.4). I like this printer so much that I recommended purchasing two of them--one for my use and one for my boss to use. I purchased this printer in December 2002 and it has performed flawlessly. The second printer was purchased in January 2003 and it is also doing an fabulous job for my boss (who is very picky about his printouts). It does a great job printing everything from spreadsheets to text to pictures to web pages. Don't listen to the reviews that say this printer does only a fair job with text. Text output from this printer is crisp and clear. It is also relatively quiet and very quick (compared to three other Epsons I have used). We are each using the printers for work at home (with Apple PowerBook G4s). We just love this printer.
