Summary: Excellent Printer!
Review: I've been looking for a while to replace my lagging Lexmark printer. I found a great deal on this Canon printer. I checked the reviews, which were mostly very favorable. I purchased it without hesitation. I'm glad I did.

It does not come with a USB cable, so expect to purchase one. It does come with a sample pack of 5 - 4x6 Canon picture paper, so you don't even need to purchase paper first to test it out. And it does come with a cartriage of color and black ink, both need to be installed. In addition, the cost of the ink is lower than many other printers, ranging about $10 a cartriage.

The software is very nice, so far. You open up their picture printer program. Select the photo(s) you want to print, then you choose from the paper types, from 4x6 to 8-1/2x11 and then how you want the photo(s) printed, ie with/without a border. Pretty much just a three step process.

The results? OY! The pictures are really fantastic. Now I must state that the quality of the print will be based more on the quality of the picture (jpeg/gif/bmp) you are printing. For example, I took a jpeg that I had from my website. In order to use it on my website, I needed to cut the resolution down. When I printed the that picture (4x6), there was a noticable grain to the photo quality. This is not in any way the fault of the printer. When I took a similar jpeg and printed it at its original resolution, the quality was as if I got the picture from a photo store. I decided to take a high resolution jped, about 12 MB, and print it 8-1/2x11. The quality was excellent. I won't say it was perfect. Upon close inspection, ie staring right in front of it, you'll notice slight indications that it was printed, however, I couldn't guarantee that you could go to a photo store and get a better quality image reproduction. However, from just casually looking at the picture, the quality is excellent.

The speed is pretty nice, about 1 4x6 in 40 seconds. Normal print outs are obviously faster, though I haven't done much with that. One other thing to bring, the paper feeder seems very reliable. My Lexmark needed to be manually feed, one sheet at a time, to print and that was such a hassle. However, this printer has a great feeder.

Overall, this product is excellent. Remember to get a USB cable to go along with it.

Summary: Best printer I've ever owned!
Review: I've been through a lot of crappy printers and this one was the best I've ever had. It's held up through 4 moves, a lot of printing through grad school, and the best part is that the ink cartridges are cheap and last a long time! I also recently discovered that it prints great pics! All around, you couldn't ask for more for $99.

Summary: Maybe my last printer!
Review: I've owned HP and Epson inkjet printers and I had am thoroughly pleased and satisified with this printer's versatility. You won't go wrong with this printer. The Canon i470 printed excellent photos and like previous posters mentioned, doesn't waste or use a whole lot of ink. A definite must-buy if you're in the market for an affordable yet quality inkjet printer.

Summary: one of the best purchase I've ever made
Review: In fact, I've got the printer (...) when it was in promotion. Cheap, but never seen any inkjet printer good as this one. I'm 100% satisfied with the picture quality. Simply the best value for the money.

Summary: Great printer...
Review: My department uses HP color printers at work (both inkjet and laserjet) and we have found the recent HP models unreliable. Several of us just bought this Canon printer for our own home use, and ALL of us are happy. We got a rebate deal, but even at $99 I think people will be happy with it. Setup was easy, works with or without computer, compatible with all the various memory cards we had in our cameras and camcorders. If you hold a 4 by 6 print next to the same print from a photo shop you can see a *slight* difference, but most will not be bothered by it.
Buy a USB cable if you plan to use it with computer. (most in my dept. didn't bother, but the included software is very nice.)

Summary: Excellent quality
Review: Put a lot of time into researching photo printers before I picked up this Canon i470d from BestBuy. Brought it home and was immediately impressed. Fast, quiet, excellent quality photo printing. Easy to setup and easy-to-use software comes with. Great options....can print from media card or directly from Canon camera. Very happy with my purchase and I highly recommend it. Just don't forget to buy the USB cord that is NOT included. For your info, I just use this recreationaly to print out some 4x6's. Not doing any technically difficult photo editing or elaborate presentations.

Summary: Very Nice!
Review: Right out of the box, I fired up the printer and used the enclosed photo paper to print up some of the pictures I had taken with my old Kodak digital camera. The results were fast and impressive. I brought a couple of the pictures to work and showed them around. Everyone who saw the pictures couldn't tell they came from an inkjet printer until they really looked closely.

Black text prints crisply and quickly and ink consumption has been better than I expected, given that I'm working my way through a box of 100 4x6 photo papers.

The included software makes reviewing digital pictures simple and printing even simpler. I haven't played with the settings much, but look forward to improving upon my results. The card readers are a nice option as well and actually a deciding factor for me in buying this printer.

The printer itself is lightweight. The power supply is modular and screwed into the printer, but can be removed easily if it needs to be replaced.

Only gripe is that the first printer I picked up was DOA, but the store exchanged it without question. Canon's tech Support line encouraged me to return the printer rather than accept a refurb and didn't waste my time by walking me through a host of unnecessary diagnostics once I explained what I had already tried to revive the first printer.

Summary: Solid Performer on 4X6 photos
Review: The Canon i470D has turned out to be a very good investment. I am in electronics sales and we are constantly told to that "features tell & benefits sell!"

Well, this printer has provided me with a lot of benefits. I've had it for a year and I love it.

Benefits are: solid printer for Word documents, spreadsheets and especially WEB pages. It has not smeared or clogged the heads or printer as my old HP 660CES.

But the biggest benefit is that I can print crystal clear 4X6 prints of my new gradnson. I give them to relatives and not a one guessed that I printed them on a PC printer. I use Canon glossy photo paper but just found that FUJIFILM glossy works just as well.

Bottom line is that this printer provides me with all the benefits I was looking for. I hightly recommend it for someone like me who dowsn't want to be too technical but get a printer that works well over the long haul.

PS, I also have a Canon CanoScan D1250U2F Color Image Scanner and also got it a year ago. It also has provided me with a lot of benefits.

I am getting a new digital camera for the holidays and most likely will get a Canon Powershot A95 when the price reaches around $300. I think the 3 should really work well together. Since I am not a real techie I think this combo will suit me just fine.
