Summary: Excellent Printer and Fast, Fast, Fast...
Review: I had originally purchased the Epson Stylus 825 printer. Thing is, the 825 produces great looking pictures but... if you look close, at an angle, you can see very clear "track marks" that sort of look like perforations. I believe these are caused by the array of small, plastic feeder wheels that hold the paper steady while it is fed thru the printer. So, I returned the 825.Based on the many reviews I read here and the excellent reputation of Canon (I have a powershot S40 camera), I purchased the s900. Right out of the box it is clear the s900 is freakin fast! A 4x6 photo prints in about 35 seconds! Compare this to the 825 which took 3 minutes for the same picture! Whoa. Now, given I just bought the 825 I had the unique opportunity to compare the EXACT photo, side by side. 825 vs. s900... mano-a-mano. Know what? Right out of the box, the 825 wins as far as photo quality is concerned. Make no mistake about it, Epson makes a fine product, folks. Not to mention the 825 supports roll paper and does 5x7 borderless prints (which the Canon does NOT do). Still, the little track marks made me nuts... and the 825 is slow... OH it's slow. So, off to the internet to see if there is anything I can do for the Canon. The colors were off and the print looked washed out... The Canon help site suggests turning on ICM color matching (only supported on Windows XP and 2000) and using the non-default sRGB color profile... OK. Things looked better... flesh tones were much better... still, things looked washed out. One last internet search tells me to not only turn on ICM (I run XP) but also, if I want to have less "wash out"... up the weight of black ink in the color control slightly. BINGO! That must be want Epson does... because my s900 is producing fantastic looking photos now... in 35 seconds and also much more quiet than the 825. From really looking at the screen image of the photo I can see that the Canon probably produced more "true" colors than the Epson but I really prefer the blacks to be a little deeper... personal preference. As for the separate ink cartridges... Don't really care. The Epson uses a single tank for all the colors (except black) but it only costs $24... the Canon tanks cost about $11 each so I think the price per photo is very close. Anyway... love the s900 after the tweaks. I wish it had a roll paper feed and did 5x7 borderless photos but all in all I'm very happy with it. If you want a cheaper printer, you should consider the Epson Stylus 825. The track marks I spoke of are VERY hard to see (and you have to see the picture at an angle to see them at all)...

Summary: Pros and Cons
Review: OK. Pros:
- pictures come out looking NO DIFFERENT than those I used to get from a lab (I use canon powershot S30) Quality is ideal.
- this puppy is FAST. 4x6, highest quality setting, 37seconds. 'Nuf said.
- setup is a breeze, no problem.
Cons:
- Couldn't they've made it just a tad smaller?
- Those ideal-looking pics I mentioned? Well, you only get them if you use Canon's photo pro pr101 paper, which happens to be the most expensive kind. I've tried IBM's, epson's -- pics come out looking horrible. Splotches and colors are all wrong. Bottom line is, if you can ignore these minor flaws, this really is the best printer out there. I layed out a few pics from the lab alongside those I printed, family and friends couldn't distinguish. Quality is mindblowing.

Summary: Two strikes you're out!
Review: Bought this as my first photo printer. Very excited at first with great results. Within a week of minimal personal use the black ink would not print. Cleaning button helped at first (while quickly draining all ink colors) but then could not get black ink to print. Canon help line could not solve...referred me to repair and I got very uncooperative person in White Plains NY. While printer was registered, he said I needed original sales reciept for them to help...I had tossed it. I did like the printer so I just went down and bought another one. First prints were fine (two of them) but by the end of the first day, I encountered the same problem with yellow ink as I had had with black ink on the first one! I think the printer head on this printer is a flawed design and would advise caution. I'm here on line because I am looking for a good printer to replace my 2 Canon S900s! In my opinion the Canon S900 is a lemon.

Summary: Great printer!
Review: I just bought this printer, and I love it. Once you go through the steps to install it on your computer, it works like a dream. Photos are awesome, particularly if they are on high gloss paper and set to "high quality" in the print options. Also, it is very quiet and fast. It takes literally seconds to print out a picture 8.5x11. I read that text looks a bit fuzzy, but I found it to be just fine for general printing from the Web as well. With a digital camera, there is never a need to get photos developed from a lab!

Summary: Does everything Canon says it will do
Review: We're very pleased with the printer. Photo quality has been excellent and text is fine too. Very fast. I didn't know that the printer would be able to turn itself off after an idle period and back on when needed, and that is a pleasant surprise. No regrets so far after several months of use and our second round of cartridges. I have found that it prints very well, sometimes better, on non-Canon papers, and does fine on Canon papers too.

Summary: print head problems
Review: After owning the 900 for three months with minimal usage, the print head failed and had to be replaced by Canon. Turns out there is a waste tank in the print head that collects waste ink. Every time you open the door, to replace a tank, the unit self cleans and dumps ink. The owner can't service the tank, so back it goes. Read the fine print in the manual where it talks about the number of times the warning light flashes. 7 or 8 flashes is a bad thing. There is no other warning, except the printer fails to work, and you blame your computer.

Summary: The greatest photo printer ever produced!
Review: This printer is AMAZING! You cannot tell the difference between a real photograph and one from this printer. I used the 4x6 glossy paper that was included, and printed a photo taken from my digital camera. It was done in less than 20 seconds and I was stunned at the results. The picture quality and color are absolutely perfect. Everyone I have showed the photos to are shocked when I tell them I printed it and that it isn't a real photograph! I had the printer set up and installed in less than 10 minutes. The software is very easy to use, and provides a great interface for printing photos. Everything is included in the box to get started right away.. They give you all the ink tanks and some photo paper. The only thing NOT provided is a USB cable. I can't believe that they won't throw in a cheap USB cable for free! The printer itself looks very sharp. It's silver and black and has a cool style and shape. I used an Epson Stylus Color 800 for a few years, and that is a total piece of junk compared to this. The Epson takes 5 minutes to clean and prepare itself almost every time you want to print something. This printer starts up immediately and prints extremely fast. I highly recommend this printer to anyone who uses a digital camera!

Summary: All It Is Supposed to Be
Review: I did extensive homework and concluded that the S-900 was the most promising. I have now had it for six months, and it has been great. Easy to set up, fast printing, and excellent photo printing. Using the appropriate paper (and you really don't need hard-to-find Canon paper unless you want to print tear-apart 4x6's), the results are equal to or better that a processed 35mm or APS. Ink usage has been reasonable. No evidence of any fading. I have had a string of HP's--which were good--but the color and photo ability of this printer leave the HP's behind.

Summary: Great Printer
Review: Bottom line: I've had this printer since June '02...and I couldn't be happier. Check the specs. This thing is so FAST FAST FAST!!! Great driver software from (kudos) Canon. Prints are TRUE PHOTO QUALITY. I.E. You can't see ANY dithering (dot pattern/dots at all) even in solid fill areas and skin. The colors are smooth and accurate. Ink tank system is superb, the tanks last and last. Lots of ink in each tank. Seperate is better because you just replace the color that is empty, never any wasted ink this way. Also the expensive electronics are not incorporated into the ink tanks so they cost only [$] each. Since they hold so much ink this gives a lower cost to operate. One caveat, you MUST use the CANON Photo Paper Pro and CANON ink. Choose any other option and the results go straight from perfect to lousy. The paper is expensive (I recommend the 4x6 borerless). BUT: If you want the best photos you can print,
THE ONES YOU SHOW PEOPLE AND THEY SLAP YOU WHEN YOU SAY THEY CAME FROM AN INKJET,

Summary: Great Photos, But Fading Problem
Review: I have been using this printer for four months and the print quality is excellent. However, I cannot give it 5 stars because the prints begin to fade within a month unless they are placed behind glass or plastic. I find this unacceptable, as I cannot give prints away for people to hang on their refridgerator or office.
